  1. The right is offering a clean bill. The left, who as you point out has zero branches of control, is trying to hold the bill hostage to force liberal policy. But it's the right's fault. It's wild watching you guys spin it. It's gonna hurt y'all in the long run, though. The fringe lunatic left are the only ones actually buying it. I guess it makes sense that the party of entitlement thinks they're entitled to get something they want out of an unrelated bill to keep the government open and then blames everyone else when they don't get it. But hey, keep alienating those swing voters and moderates. Y'all already have the SNAP vote, so the republicans aren't losing anything there. Besides, it's not like most of them can't figure out who's really behind this all anyway.

  4. I imagine better opportunities could have come up for that weekend for those teams. In Barbers Hill's case, they are playing in the McDonald's Invitational the weekend before. May be about too many games for them. West Brook is playing in the Texas Jamboree that weekend vs. Dallas Kimball. That is a much better deal for them. Port Arthur Memorial is also playing in Texas Jamboree vs. Houston Washington. Silsbee is playing at Texas Jamboree as well. I believe all those schedules are more than sufficient to explain why they are not playing at Border Battle. As for Lumberton, again they may not have been invited.

Pretty amazing the progress, hopefully future presidents are taking note. Future Republican presidents at least, democrats can’t wait to undo anything advantageous for the US.

  7. We’ll see where they wind up. People also assume LP is gonna lose to Angleton. They forget LP is the team that hasn’t lost a district game in over 2 years, has better O & D numbers than last year, is more balanced, and has actually played PO teams & teams with winning records. Angleton’s opponents to this point are 21-45, and none have a winning record. LP’s numbers all around are better than last year, even though they’ve had some mental lapses. Similar to last year, Angleton’s numbers are better. But, they lost to LP in district last year in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score, and had to have miracle comebacks in every PO game I remember to get to the rematch with LP while LP doubled up—at least—on everyone in the PO’s until letting Angleton come back on them in the rematch. The Angleton/LP tilt Friday was a toss-up to me before injuries. Now, I have no idea because I don’t know what to expect. I have no idea what Angleton team we’ll be seeing.

  8. All-district a lot of times is coaches in their feelings. We got hosed last year lost 1 game in district and win district championship but because of how we played we got penalized. We had 1 superlative (a team that didn’t make the playoffs got the defensive mvp superlative). And I didn’t come close to winning coach of the year. All stuff the kids and I still remember and will make sure shows up come district time.

    Quick Trillion

According to AP wire reporting, between August and now the National debt rise $1 trillion. That’s faster than any time aside from the pandemic in history. How’s that fiscal responsibility working for all you Weasel heads (insert something else that is not breaking a rule)?

    PNG @ Montgomery

IMO the final scores were similar, by my definition of similar, as reflected by the comparisons we're making. But regardless, it's fun to run the numbers and guess the scores, which is why we are all participating on this forum in the first place. It's up to the boys to play the game. Like someone said up above, it should be a good game. Hoping for good weather, no injuries, and cheering for PNG.

  15. Republicans try to have those conversations on a regular basis, democrats do not. To democrats, those folks that remain on the public dole represent votes and a means to keep them in power, plain and simple. Crumbs for votes, sad. Thankfully, Trump is attempting to pass this responsibility to the states, all while democrats are kicking and screaming against it.

  21. I'm not downplaying the fact that the pirates have improved this year, but the best wins on their schedule are against 3A teams with 3-5 records. Most of those matchups against weak 3A schools were somewhat competitive, too. two wins against 4A squads with a combined 1-15 record. A 42-6 loss against the only good opponent faced all year. If there was a matchup between HJ and Shepherd tomorrow in the pickems I would pick Shepherd, but nothing that's happened this year screams that Shepherd is lightyears ahead of the Hawks to where anyone should be 100% confident that the pirates would win that matchup. I'm comfortable saying that if the two teams swapped schedules they'd come really close to swapping records as well.

  25. The scores weren’t similar at all between Montgomery/Huntsville and PNG/Huntsville. Montgomery had the game won by halftime. There was about a quarter (the first one) where they traded punts and it looked like Huntsville could be in the game, and then Montgomery gave them absolutely no breathing room. PNG, after the comeback from 21-10 at the half, didn’t have the game fully in hand until the beginning of the 4th quarter. And of Huntsville’s three scores against Montgomery, two of them were in garbage time. There’s not any real comparison between those two games. Admittedly, Huntsville lost three starters in that game, so they might have played better in a different week. Comparing those two games doesn’t tell us anything, and if it does, it’s that Montgomery is really good and PNG better forget about La Porte and Huntsville and get ready for a war.

    PNG @ Montgomery

From what I understand LC VS Montgomery is a massive rivalry so those games are usually tight. My buddy out in Magnolia says there is a strong dislike for each other, LC is viewed as the country club school & Montgomery a little more blue collar. Montgomery Beatdown Huntsville & PNG had to come from behind to win that one. I Just think this is one of the best games in the state tomorrow night. Good luck to both teams.

I think they make you go online now and pay an inconvenience fee. It seems like just the smaller schools still have tickets at the gate now. I sure miss the days of the $5 dollar bill at the gate.

  36. Schools always can opt up to play closer to home....so for example PNG could opt up to D1 and play in 9-5A D1

  39. I agree. It sometimes gets political with the all-district picks. I also know that these TABC district predictions is not always 100% coach decided in some of these districts.

  43. You're ok with schools playing another school with double their enrollment in district competition? Think about the top enrollment number of 5A D1 (2274) compared to the bottom number of 5A D2 (1315). Bottom of 4A D2 (545) vs. top of 4A D1 (1314). Bottom of 3A D2 (254) vs. top of 3A D1 (544). etc.. Whether it two schools with 6A numbers or 2 schools with 1A numbers.. in the average athletic/academic competition, the school with twice as many students to choose from will have somewhat of an advantage. Surely you're not saying that's not true.

  45. Only ones that have any kind of chance would be Lumberton and Vidor. Don't expect either to go up.

  46. 100% agree with that. If you opt up in football then you opt up in every sport. It should be that you get to pick and choose who you play.
    1 point
  47. I agree about the opt up. It should only be for schools with major travel issues. (i.e. El Paso, etc.) Not for schools that are are only traveling 60 or less miles. BC, HJ and Liberty all opted up for competition reasons. Not travel. You'll never convince me otherwise. I can see BC opting up because they are actually very close to DI numbers anyway. HJ and Liberty are not even close. Also, I am not all that hip on all the other sports going to divisions but if that is how it's going to be, then have divisional districts like football and not decide the divisions after district play. That actually allows a larger school to get in D2 depending on who makes playoffs. If they do go with divisional districts this next realignment for all sports (I am hearing they won't) then schools that opt up for football should have to play all the rest of their sports in that football district. You shouldn't be able to pick and choose what sport you want to opt up in and not.

  48. If it's strictly about budget and travel purposes, then just make the districts whatever 5-8 schools are closest to each other. Regardless of enrollment. See? That's ridiculous. Having schools in your UIL competition district that are closest to your enrollment size, even if you have to travel a little further, is not ridiculous. It's equitable. There are always exceptions, but if it's true that schools are potentially better/worse depending on their pool of students to draw from... then there needs to be split divisions. For every UIL extracurricular event. You can't pick and choose when it's fair.. or for what sport it's fair for. Or even when to ignore the fairness in the name of saving money. Playing against the same size schools is either fair or it isn't. If that's fair, then it needs to be that way for every sport.

  49. Mid county schools traveling to Huntsville for a district game shouldn’t have ever happened… just like Mid County and Port Arthur Memorial a few years ago round 1 playoff games from the bottom of the state to the top of the state matchups. Hopefully UIL gets it together… no reason setx schools should be in region 2.
