Was telling someone the other day that you know a program is in rarified air when you spend a season ranked in the top 10, go undefeated in district, win a playoff game, and then lose in the second round to one of the most storied programs in the history of the state from a city 350 times bigger than yours and the season feels like a huge disappointment. A bad year for Silsbee is a dream season for most schools. And this season will be the exception to the rule I’m sure for awhile.

One thing I do like about the hire is Ron Jackson finally hired some youth! Because before this hire it seemed as if he had thing for hiring old coaches lol But Dre is a good dude & should bring a lot of excitement into the program, however he’s already been told by Ron Jackson that he can’t get rid of the entire staff apparently because the current coaches have family, kids & homes in the Beaumont. He can only bring in coordinators, which makes zero sense. He’s definitely fighting an uphill battle because the admin is clueless as to what it takes to have a success athletics/football program. Also he’s going to be hard pressed to find good quality coaches to come from Austin, SA, Houston etc to come take pay cuts in Beaumont.

Coach Abseck has hit the ground running here in Lufkin. Reaching out to kids, working to get a full time strength and conditioning coach on campus. New turf coming in our indoor practice facility and at Abe Martin Stadiun. Other improvements in the works too. You can see things happening that have not occured here in the last 13 years, and maybe as far back as the Outlaw days. The man has really been on the move in his first month on the job putting things in place. Someone told me he was still looking for a DC. So I guess the DC at Barbers Hill is not going to be part of the staff. In fact several coaches from Quick's staff are remaining to coach with Abseck. Our forner OC and RB coach went to Groveton. Sure wish we could have kept our DC, he is good, but someone told me he was headed to College Station. Sorry to hear that news. Anyway, really like what I see and hear going on right now, will be interesting to see how all this all comes together in time.

That may actually be correct. Solid hire by BISD. It was time to inject some youth into there football programs. As always they have some talented kids who need to be taught updated schemes to maximize their true potential. As previously stated, the true test will be how much Admin works with him to bring in some new ideas on the coaching staff. Hard to turn a program around when HCs are only allowed to bring in new coordinators.

Over the last 10 seasons, Silsbee was 15-2 vs. Houston ISD schools in the playoffs. Silsbee has basically been running 4A Region III for the last 20 years. You had to beat them to win the region or Silsbee won the region. Only three seasons in the last 20 where a team won the region without beating Silsbee or Silsbee won the region. If Wheatley beats Yates tomorrow night, then that will make 18 out of last 21 seasons that the 4A Region III champ was either Silsbee or a team that eliminated Silsbee from the playoffs. This 2nd round exit breaks a streak of 4 straight regional final appearances (9 of last 10 years Silsbee made regional finals). Over the last 20 years, Silsbee played for the regional championship 14 times, winning it 7 times. I agree, some rarified air.

most of what you saw on friday night was like a JV, if you figure in their age. It's a tough schedule, for the most part, but they could easily be 10 - 0. If Johnson stays healthy and the young running backs bring it, they will be very good. Receivers are questionable, but there is some good potential .
