7 years huh? Sounds vaguely familiar. Don't read this... apparently there's alot of factors to it. There's much more to this article than what I quoted. It's at the bottom of the page, so I don't know how long it will be posted. [Hidden Content] Nederland Tax Mess ā Bailing Out Well, another shocker. Remember how we told you that the actual census for the schools in Nederland was down by almost 400 children? Well, add another 230 to that for a whopping 600 plus students gone from NISD.2 points -

Actually (just a point of law) alcohol does legally play a factor in criminal law. Texas law says that the use of alcohol cannot be used as a defense to prosecution however it can be brought up as a mitigating factor in punishment. In this case the guy should be charged with Capital Murder which only has two punishments. Life without parole or execution. A lawyer is legally allowed to bring up intoxication to plea for life in prison. But that is just the law. I agree with your assessment. I just have a hard time getting away from opinions without bring up law. š¤£2 points -
Did Indians93 attack people calling them teenagers while defending someone for being attacked in the same manner ? I believe these āattacksā are saying parents need to stop getting in the way of the coaches and let them do their job. Especially if you want a good coach. Coming in throwing out Bible versus and calling people teenagers seems very hypercritical to me.2 points

Yes those sophomores will be juniors and there was about a handful that were pretty good. I donāt think 5 or 6 are going to get the job done. Where are all the others coming from? Sophomores, seniors? I think this coaching staff has been there long enough to show that their coaching skills are a tad on the weak side I hope they prove me wrong, I am simply looking at how they performed last year and I bet Dave Campbellās magazine has them picked close to the bottom. I favor a progressive income tax, but something is bad wrong when the upper tax brackets are over 50% (on those who actually pay taxes on their income). We pay property taxes on things we own... but we don't pay sales taxes on our real property when it's purchased. Morally I have a problem with paying tax on income as it accumulates, but then having to cede most of it when I pass, also. It's always the have-nots who think nobody else should be doing any better than them. Neither the state, nor the general public have any right to my estate in front of my heirs.... and to state "well, they should cap that... we deserve that inheritance, not that man's family" just doesn't ring true in a free society. The idea that my kids will have to sell off land that's been in my family since the 1800s just to pay off an inheritance tax is preposterous. Or at least it used to be.1 point -

And all along I thought the topic heading "Nederland 2023" was referring to football. To say the most recent conversation / bashing is a football topic is reaching at best. To get things back on topic, Nederland is going to pretty much suck this upcoming year. Now, can we stay on topic?1 point -
I guess my next question is this......how do you build unity amongst your current players that have put in the work, sacrificied the last few years and bring in another QB over your other players??? If I am an athlete playing in Nederland I would not have any confidence that they wouldnt transfer in another player to take my position. If the transfer player is truly better then so be it but it definitely doesnt build confidence within your current Team.1 point

I believe he is talking about what's happening since the massive bond tax increase. I have no doubt that there was a population increase between 2010 and 2020. But... I know some of the increased taxes that the people of Nederland are now having to pay is partly due to the out of control Appraisal Board. Again, but... Here's the article from Klein's website: "Should we all FLASHBACK? FLASHBACK 2019 ā the School Board of Nederland, Texas, headed by the Nederland Economic Commission, and supported by a board of directors that had no idea what they were doing, put on the ballot a $151 million dollar bond. The excuse was that if they built it ā kidsā grades would improve. As basic economics would tell you, the more money taken out of a community toward taxes leaves less spending in the community. We, here at the Review, warned the board that if they put a massive tax in the city (school district) young couples or 1st time home buyers could not afford taxes. As well, if the appraisal district increased the cost of homes and businesses it could cause a ripple effect inside businesses and flare inflation through the roof in some cases around a 20% tax increase. And so, on that fateful night around four years ago, the vote came in and these stupid asses hugged each other and laughed at us and others here at the Review and told us we had no idea what we are talking about. Welcome back! That was a fun trip down memory lane! And guess what ā we were right. So here is where we are now in the amazing dumb-ass move to increase taxes in THE LARGEST tax increase in the history of Jefferson County, Texas. The school tax and inventory business tax is now a whopping 26% increase over the past four years. The average cost PER YEAR of a homeowner in taxes is now cresting (this year) just over $2,500 per homeowner in NISD. Businesses both property and inventory now see a 48% increase in taxes due to the Appraisal Districtās numbers, due to a now whopping and in some cases DOUBLE the appraised values of property in Nederland. What does this all mean? What was to be (giggle) a āsmall increase in taxesā for this wonderful $151 million dollar facelift for the schools has now cost its citizens a 26% increase in hard dollars out of their family budgets. Leaving a bail-out in the city as it just costs too much to live in Nederland. And as we try and teach you elected officials: HIGH TAXES EQUAL HIGH CRIME AND HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT. The average rent home or apartment is now at an unbelievable $1,500 a month when four years ago rent averaged around $800. Now three board members came by our offices to try and show us graphs, plans, and most of all a master plan towards what was going to help the community ā which every single presentation was a lie. We called it then and we called it again today. Like the sinking HIGH SCHOOL. Oh, that is not going to sink? Right? Well, now after cost overruns and (count them) 11 architects and engineering firms being hired and fired by the district ā they finally got one that would lie for them as construction engineers and the firm building the high school fell far behind because of ground structure problems. And Neild Construction, who is honest, kept telling the district that in the future there are going to be āmajor problemsā and it put it into writing ā that seems to have disappeared! INSERT CHEERING! And strike the bands! GO DOGS! Well, another shocker. Remember how we told you that the actual census for the schools in Nederland was down by almost 400 children? Well, add another 230 to that for a whopping 600 plus students gone from NISD. No teacher layoffs or cut back on management thank god! All the insiders still have their jobs! But donāt tell anyone ā COVID will be what you get back (giggle again ā GO DOGS). We guess baby-making is down as well and nobody is moving home post-college. Here is our point ā these tax and spenders on these boards that have a bad case of OPM (other peopleās money) just do not get it. They have raised the taxes SO BIG NOW that young people just are going to other places where the crime is lower, the taxes are lower, and maybe even better quality of life. All of you grazers that thought you were being cool kids are spending a whopping $2,500 a year more on school district taxes and a sinking high school!" Now -- put your biases aside and prove where he's wrong. In other words -- attack the message, if you can, and not the messenger!1 point

First , if everyone is "bailing out" then why did Ned's population go from 17,547 in 2010 to almost 19,000 (18,856 ) in 2020? The City of Nederland lowered the tax rate again last year to 0.48 per 1000. The ISD tax rate went up for one year, and has gone back down the next two. The City and Nederland ISD have no control over the appraised value of property, that is handled by the County Tax Accessor's office. Klein wouldn't know a fact if it slapped him upside the head. He's just butt-hurt because he led the opposition to the bond and got it handed to him when the votes were counted. Also, he seems to have some kind of grudge against one of the school board members for some reason. [Hidden Content],+Texas+Populations+and+People [Hidden Content]1 point

I would think there is something wrong with you if you didnāt bring up the law. lol Iām not an Iran fan by any means, butā¦.. There was a taxi driver in Iran years ago who was going around raping women. He was finally caught, convicted and sentenced to death. The next day (I think), they strung him up from a cherry picker for everyone to see. He didnāt have 20 years to appeal and I would bet there arenāt many rapists in Iran. Heck, today we release rapists on their own recognizance. Iām not saying that there shouldnāt be an appeals process, but 20 years? Of course this probably wouldnāt deter these sick triggered people, but if murderers knew they wouldnāt last even one more year, I could see it being a deterrent.1 point -
So once again we are going to try and recruit a D1 Prospect that is going to turn our program around??? What a Joke! We all saw how that played out last year! Why don't we fix the main issue and better understand why the Big Ned program is tanking in all sports??? We can recruit the next D1 prospect for offense and defense and it still want help fix the culture that has fallen off course. Watching the potential prospect QB from Anahuac HUDL from this season I will say he has a descent arm but his foot work and speed will be a major issue with the returning O Line we have coming back. This is no shot at the O Line by any means! At least they suit up and give it their all while the biggiest kids walk the halls of the school and not even participate. Just my opinion1 point
-
Has anyone seen this kids recent HUDL from last season? He has a descent arm but he has no speed and that will be very interesting with the O Line we have returning. Why are we so worried about trying to find this D1 prospect instead of focusing on the real issues the entire Big Ned program is facing? One D1 player will not fix the main issues we are facing!1 point

I remember reading/hearing that the kid led Hardin's 8th grade to a district championship in just about every sport. The same group being terrible... at best... before and after him.. Again, 2nd hand information. But if true, winning district for Hardin boys on any level can't be a small feat. I'm sure that's uncommon. 5A is definitely a different animal, though.1 point -

Understood. The point was that they just ran off "the best" they ever had. I really have not seen many AD/HFC anywhere that were not good at "molding young men". In terms of "molders of young men", every school and corresponding group of kids get that with almost every HC. Things change when the community gets sideways with the HC and begins to invent things to be disgruntled about. Then they start fabricating the rest of whatever story they want to believe.1 point

Exactly. Crosby just ran off the coach that had the best run in the history of the program. Now the peanut gallery is talking about "what the kids deserve". The kids deserve whatever they get, no different than what the kids "deserve" in every other district.1 point
