  1. This is the type of game that should've been at NRG. But anyway: Go PNG!

  2. PNG has been in 5A (which was 4A until the addition of 6A) since 1988, besides a brief stint in 5A (the current 6A) in 1994 and 1995. Sounds confusing, but they’ve been primarily in the state’s second highest class since the late 80’s. Of course the UIL then added divisions of the classes more recently.

Yep and now I see they're about to change the name of the Montagne to Neches Federal Credit Union Arena for $3.5 mil. Where's that money going? Are they dancing yet? [Hidden Content]

  5. One transfer in but basically had their whole team back and most believed they were poised for a run this year. The addition of that transfer put them at another level. '6"5 guard from St. Pius that can really score.

  6. Name another high school football team that's gotten a shoutout from the Governor AND the Speaker of the House over the last two months.

  7. Two of United's biggest threat in the region is two teams that are in their district, #3 Summer Creek and #21 Atascocita. Other teams that BU will have to contend with in the region are #4 FB Elkins, #13 Pearland Dawson, #14 Katy Seven Lakes, #15 Cypress Creek and a good Dickinson team. I agree, had they stayed in 5A BU would have only two, maybe three teams in the region to contend with in order to get to San Antonio.

  10. I think Silsbee got the first dunk….. so theoretically they won the game.

  11. [Hidden Content] I'll never forget that name. He's the best HS kicker I've ever seen. Went on to a&m and then med school. That was the 1st of 3 straight 1st round losses to CE King. All at Rice I believe. We've never been back.

  13. Then beat Lamar Consolidated in the Dome with the help of our current LB Mason Droddys dad on a long kick off return that set up a Ron McGill TD.

  14. He sets the standard for players to reach by doing this in which produces the success he and silsbee has had.

  16. Tigers get no relief later this week as they will be playing in the Cypress Hoops tournament. Silsbee will be the only 4A team in the tournament which is dominated by 6A schools and a couple of 5A teams. Silsbee starts off against 6A Cypress Lakes and if they win that one would likely face 6A Dickinson in the next round. 6A Shadow Creek and 6A #20 South Grand Prairie are also in Silsbee's bracket grouping. Other ranked teams in this tourney are 6A #3 Summer Creek, 6A #15 Cy Creek, 6A #18 Denton Guyer and 6A #25 Harker Heights. 24 team field with 21 of them 6A teams and two 5A. If Silsbee were to go 2-2 in this tourney I would call that a success. They follow that tournament up with a trip next Tuesday to 5A #9 Lufkin. Coach Sigler with his normal gauntlet of a schedule for these Tigers.

  17. They also beat 4A Carter by 4. Yes, Carter is #1 in 4A, but I think the #6 team in 6A should wipe the floor with them. United beat the #2 5A team by 7, and if this was 5A again this year, I'd give them a very good shot at returning to state. I just don't know about that with all of the quality 6A teams in their region that @AggiesAreWe mentioned above.

  18. I think so, I was at the games in 99, and the crowd grew and grew as they got deeper. I was at championship game too, I think it was around 40k

  23. I think it was 3-2 or 4-2 BU. BU missed two and had another one blocked but the ball found its way in the net.

  25. '89 team with R. Mcgill at RB, Ryan Robertson at QB & B. Bost at WR were solid on offense, played hard nosed tough defense & all 11 guys on defense would drop the hammer on dudes

  26. Yes SOC is young and they started off with qb issues early in the season. They have been rotating them to see who would step up.

  27. Good to see Weston ‘Big Baby’ Davis back from injury with the emphatic putback to end the game! I think we handled Silsbee’s game plan fine. They wanted to deny Dotson and Yates the ball. Either that or quick doubles. Glad to know we have others that stepped up. I’m still not liking the silly turnovers, but I LOVED the good free throw shooting. Still a ways to go before we are ready for this state title run again. As far as Silsbee goes, the team will be fine when the football kids get a few more games under their belt. But I was impressed with Silsbee’s main guy doing some great things in the first half then he basically disappeared in the second half. I just don’t understand that. The team needs you in these big games. But I’m confident that he’ll be ready in the next big game.

  28. Can BU get it done in 6A? They didn't look to shabby tonight. Can't wait for Silsbee to get their basketball legs and timing down. Only three misses from the FT line, BU with 1 and Silsbee with 2, CRAZY, Good luck BU. Lets go Tigers, all season. TigerNation!!!

  34. Fully loaded Silsbee minus one starter (Harper) who I was told will be out a couple of weeks due to an injury sustained in Cuero game. The rest of the football players (8 in all) will start playing tonight against Beaumont United.

  36. There are three marquee games tonight that I feel deserve to have their own game threads. Beaumont United at Silsbee Beaumont West Brook at Nederland Barbers Hill at Hamshire-Fannett I will post these game threads later this afternoon. Also, when district play begins, I (or hopefully someone else) will be posting individual game threads and/or game threads for a whole district. Right now, I am just lumping all non district and non tournament games into one thread.

  37. With only one team left from SETX, Mustang nation is in full support mode. Jump ship... I cannot. I've sat on yalls side at marching contest. Just didn't feel right. If I could I'd be there Friday. Early enough to get good seat in the middle of that sea of purple.

  43. Amazing young talent. Hope him well in the future. I watched the game and he definitely was a beast. I remember when I played in the 90s, Orangefield had a running back by the name Anthony Schichler. He was really good and when I heard the young man's name it reminded me of him. Close, but not the same! Good luck to the Bobcats!
