I watched the JV game tonight. Y'all have done a lot of complaining about the Varsity QB. #16 on JV was accurate as hell tonight. And #19, his favorite target caught everything thrown to him. One of the 2 scoring drives was all #16 to #19, every play. Titans couldn't run the ball but they looked ok passing.

Hope the Newton varsity takes no offense. Wouldn't do to have those folks ticked.

Say what you want, but this is old time high school football. Two good teams playing on a grass field with a crown, small stadium and rabid fans. These kind of games are the seeds of Texas High School Football that are where all the big mega stadiums and huge crowds come from.

I think you'd like to have seen the defense do a little more, but the offense is for real. Haven't really had a substantial test yet. We shall see in a few weeks where they stand.

Watching the little film that I did, HF had a ton of snaps pass the QB. I didn't know QB was knocked out 1st half. I did notice both QB played. My assessment is HF will have the size advantage on both side's of the ball and will try to establish the run on the inside on offense, mixed up with a lot of passing. EC will have the all around team speed advantage, and try to establish run on outside tackle to sideline mixed up with few inside runs with passing mixed in. If EC can't control the line they will struggle. I do think this will be good game for both teams. Hope and pray that both teams walk off the field healthy and better men!!!!!!! My assessment are just words on a screen and will have no effect on who wins or who loses.

I've never been to newton's stadium. Capacity is 2300 so it should be packed. I hear many from WOS planning to go. But alot more planning to stay home and listen to kogt. Nearly a full moon on Friday the 13th, means ima stay off that dark east Texas highway. I'll be there in spirit. Safe travels for everyone.

West brook is gud every year. I was only talking abt just those teams. I might a lil basis to want all setx schools to be on that level. The biggest problem I have with all them other schools that aren't from is. Is all they do is recruit players. To me in a way they have to recruit to win.

So you work in Silsbee but not live there. And go to a JV game in Nederland. Yea, ok. I am betting you have a son on Silsbee's JV.

If Bregman played on a lesser quality team, he would have more HRs. His mindset and approach at the plate would be different. He plays team ball because he knows there is other players behind him. Trout comes up with less runners on base and usually not in critical situations with playoffs on the line. So the opposing pitcher has more of a tendency to challenge him. Like Derek Jeter, Bregman has yet to play a game where the Astros were eliminated from playoffs. That's gotta count for something. Answer: Yes. I can understand how a player that hits .291, 45 hrs, 104 rbi, 1.083 ops, can be deemed valuable to a team. His contract definatly proves that. But for the MVP of the "league", winning against the best teams in the "league" should be a factor. Also, in 9 games vs Astros this season trout is hitting .212 with 3 hrs. And his career postseason avg .083. What a waste for whom many consider to be eventually be the greatest to ever play the game.

Well, PNG looked pretty average against Huntsville. Come to think of it, this may be a pretty good game.

EC definitely needs to clean up fumbles. They let HJ score on 2nd team defense at end of the game. EC will be fine but this is a rivalry game and it is in HF.

WO-S outlasts Newton in 8-OT marathon, 56-54. After a defensive 0-0 tie during regulation, both offenses woke up in overtime. The two behemoths matched scores to a 54-54 tie thru 7 OTs, including the required 2-point conversion after 2nd OT. Newton's defense stiffened and held the Mustangs on downs to start the 8th OT. The Eagles ensuing game winning FG attempt ended with a bad snap and kicker Hewell McDoole being tackled in the opposite end zone for a safety and a 56-54 WO-S victory. Elated WO-S coach Cornel Thompson said "I haven't seen anything like this since who flung the chunk, but we'll take it, that's a good team over there."

Here’s two great programs going at it. There’ll be more pride and tradition on that field as you’ll find anywhere. Anyone seeing this game will see the best of High School Football.

It was hard not to get excited for the only kid ever to win the Willie Ray Smith Award on the Offensive Side And Defensive Side of the Ball in the same year! Offensive Side 1881 yards rushing 33 TDS - Defensive Side 123 Tackles - 3 interceptions - 1 was pick 6 for TD. Kid never came off the field. Also did the punting for the team. Amazing Athlete with incredible endurance.

I've noticed many saying Newton has players that are just as good as Barlow , Foster. I don't think that to be true. You could search the nation and not find another of these guys. These young men proved themselves on and off the field in society. Newton has good players stepping up to fill the vacancy of players like Barlow but until they prove themselves on and off the field you cannot say they even compare to Barlow. Can these young players be like a Barlow or Foster ? Yes in their own way . Many of these young guys are making their Mark and earning their stripes but untile they prove themselves on and off the field and between the White Lines you can't compare them to Barlow or Foster. Being a fast runner , throwing and catching a football , having the most tackles all these things are included in the package but there is more to being a great player and athlete. Your activity in your classroom , neighborhood and society are just as important as being good on a football field. Barlow and Foster along with other players from Newton have done both . Saying Newton has players just as good as Barlow or some of the other players who have moved on is not accurate. These young men did it on and off the field and continue to contribute to both . 💯💜
