For a school that moved to get rid of the “chain gang” moniker, it’s surprising that they hired a coach whose name is obviously appropriating Native American culture.

They’re about to get a nasty letter from the Cherokee Nation, too.

Yeah, opportunities forged by the hard work and success of his father, not only in the coaching profession, but in modeling what a successful coach looks like to both of his sons. His older brother was a star at Baylor as a QB, then was a successful HS coach which afforded him the opportunity to return and be hired at Baylor. Shawn was retained through a coaching transition so he must be pretty good at what he does also. Brian just won a state championship and knocked off both WOS and Carthage on the way to the trophy. But yeah, it's all about connections and opportunities others don't have. That's why he's a success.
This argument is weak. The idea that fathers cannot forge a legacy which benefits not only himself and his immediate family, but also future generations of the family is insane. That's the goal of every father, to give their children opportunities either they didn't have, or had to break walls down to receive. No one is stopping anyone from breaking their own walls down and creating the same type of legacy for their family, but it's must easier, and more popular in 2021, to lay down, cry "privilege", and put your hand out to be given something you didn't work one second for. The children we are raising under this ideology have an interesting situation in front of them. Many of them will choose to be victims and will remain victims for the remainder of their lives. Some will see this for what it is, and understand that competition to get to the top will be less fierce than it has been in years past because the number of "victims" has increased. I hope some of them take the opportunity seriously and grab it.
    Congrats Coach Bell.

He is just the HFC/AC but I think that's a lot less stressful than what he would have to deal with being the AD at PNG. He just took Tomball to the semis even after a 4th place finish in district play and has some studs coming up. The facilities are better than PNG's and he makes more money than PNG is probably willing to pay him right now, plus he's doing it on the big stage in 6A.  Dude literally got almost as far away from The Triangle as he could while still being in the Houston metro area, I doubt he's coming back before retirement which is probably 5-10 years away for him.

Peevy lives in orange. Wife is LCM alum and has probably the most community support in the area. I don’t see him going over there. LCM is working on the bond for facilities. We will most likely be taking in Orangefield and WOS recruits😂

If he loses more than 2 regular season games, it will only be a 1-2 year thing.
Lord have mercy, I hope this wasn't his motivation.

WOS will now begin to fade back into a typical local program, and not a state power. The door is open for someone else to grab the mantle and run for SETX.

If they don’t hire Toby, it’s over for WOS. This generation of player and parent will “take their ball and go home” if things don’t go their way. If Toby isn’t hired, mark my words, there will be a mass exodus to LCM. LCM is the new pretty girl on the block, and everyone will want to be a part of the program on the rise, not the one struggling to forge a new identity. WOS pride means nothing to this new generation. You see it in college and Hs already throughout the nation and state of Texas. If the board messes this up, it will be nuclear. Do the right thing folks!

No one is coming from a large school in DFW to take over WOS, and even if they do, they will build their credibility as a HC and leave the first chance the get at a bigger job back in DFW. WOS would do well to hire Foreman and attempt to continue the tradition of having a head coach plan to stay until retirement at WOS. If they inject themselves into the rat race, it could be a long tumble into mediocrity for the program. Toby is the safe hire. If he fails, then you can jump into the rat race. Just my opinion.

It just feels so unnecessary and takes away some of the mystique of that Mustangs D. Not many high schools have a moniker attached to a specific phase of their football team, and that is something that matters in high school. Eh, just something I was thinking about.

That line of thinking has been there since football was created. The issue is that now there are multiple platforms for parents to air those grievances. You give a parent a place to rant and all of a sudden their personal opinion becomes a theory after two or three more parents, who may have never given much thought to the issue, latch on and agree with them. Now one parent's opinion has turned into 20 people talking about it in the stands.
Parent's opinions are the absolute last thing that should have an influence on personnel which is why I've never talked to any of the school Crosby my three sons have played for to date. Hell, I ran our coach down and he still put my son on varsity after breaking his leg and missing his whole freshman year. That being said, I don't think you put your kid in that situation by airing that here but if there's even an inkling of truth to what he's saying then he's probably not going to get very far with a 1on1 meeting with the coach.
My personal opinion on the situation is right in line with yours though. I don't believe a coach would take food out of his family's mouths and get fired by not playing kids who could help him win, but I also don't believe every parent who has this issue is making a false accusation either.

This line of thinking is exactly what has created the downturn in society over the past several decades. Parents never pushing their kids to take personal responsibility for their choices or their role in bad situations. Even if all of what you said is true, your teaching your son to lay down and cry when things aren't fair. That's not a life lesson that will serve him well. I highly doubt Mac's staff would have lasted as long as it has had he run his program this way.

I would be willing to bet I could find hundreds of former HH athletes, and parents of HH athletes that would say the exact opposite of your post. Similar to life, there is nothing about athletics that is “fare.” Don’t point fingers. Talk to your son. Schedule a meeting. Hopefully y’all can get on same page with coaching staff. Airing your complaints on a public forum, does no good for anyone involved. I hate you feel your athlete is being wronged, however there is much more to life than HS athletics. Learning life lessons from a difficult circumstance could pay to be much greater in life than HS playtime. I hope your situations get resolved, and best of luck to you, your son, and HH.

The last time a coach left Hardin with his quarterback son they went to Carthage and helped win 2-3 state championships in a row. I hope history doesn’t repeat itself but we are talking about Hardin. And yes, they beat Hemphill in a playoff game in 2007.
