Huffman at Bye Week
Big Daddy Cool and 3 others reacted to PolkHighLegend for a topic
Who y'all got? I like Huffman to get off to a good start early, but ultimately I think Bye week wears down the feared 5 man front of Huffman and squeaks out a W dropping Huffman to 4-6.4 points -

Cornel Thompson’s book is titled “WOS Football, A Way of Life,” a 424‑page history of the West Orange‑Stark Mustangs football program. I agree HJ should be ranked, shocked they aren't but they will get added quickly I am sure. The main issue is they have to rely on last year if coaches do not submit their votes for top teams in their regions. It is crazy how few coaches voice their opinions to vote on this stuff for the preseason. Huntington, and Trinity are ranked too low. Surprised EC that low as well considering what they return as Dillard is really good. Diboll has a ton of Sophs that are talented and make them good as well. That district is maybe the toughest depth wise in 3A as PCA, Heights, Central, Huntington, and Diboll are all legit which means a really good team will miss the playoffs.2 points -

Hardin Jefferson is absolutely a top 25 team. The TABC process highly rewards last years results, because HJ lost in the first round they aren't on here, doesn't factor enough who they bring back and how quality their opponent they lost to was. HJ is going to be really really good this year.2 points -

Why suit up if you aren’t going to play?? If you want to be on the sideline then hold a first down marker, run across the field with one of the flags that spells DOGS and I would pick the letter S for a certain reason. If you play every week in the JV game you aren’t allowed to play on Friday night. Must be a faculty members son that has earned the gold jersey to be on the sideline. Just my observation! What happened to earning your spot on a roster??1 point -

Bye Week is always a mystery team. You just never know what they're going to bring to game each week.1 point -
I think we're just looking at what actually benefits the game from two different perspectives. You mentioned that an extra 6–8 possessions could change the outcome of a close game. Absolutely they could, but isn't that part of the point? Those are additional opportunities for BOTH teams to execute offensively and defensively. Why should a team that's trailing be denied opportunities to compete simply because the team that's ahead can hold the ball? And I disagree with the idea that controlling tempo somehow disappears with a shot clock. You can absolutely still control tempo with 35 seconds. You can run your sets, work for high-percentage shots, and play deliberate basketball. What you can't do is hold the ball for two minutes without ever attempting to score. There's a difference between controlling tempo and avoiding playing offense altogether. I also think we're overlooking one of the biggest benefits of a shot clock: rewarding good defense. A shot clock gives the defense an opportunity to earn possession without having to gamble for steals or commit fouls. As far as smaller programs and inexperienced players go, I understand the concern, but at what point do we stop treating fundamental basketball skills as disadvantages that the rules need to accommodate? Every team has strengths and weaknesses. Some teams struggle against pressure, some struggle with size, and others struggle with depth. We don't change the rules to eliminate those disadvantages. We coach our players to overcome them. The one point we agree with, again, is the financial burden and officiating concerns, especially for smaller schools. Those are legitimate issues that deserve solutions, but I don't think logistical challenges and competitive disadvantages are the same argument. Ultimately, I think a shot clock makes basketball more balanced between offense and defense. It doesn't force teams to play fast. It simply requires them to actually attempt to score within a reasonable amount of time.1 point

I mistakenly put Westwood in our teams in the rankings. Westwood is not one of our coverage area basketball teams. They are in football but not basketball. I removed them from the post.1 point -
Noted. 9) Keep to the subject. Post to the section that is most appropriate for the topic being presented. Should be noted as well. Posting personal opinions related to high school kids and their level of participation for the season does not keep to the subject of the PN-G vs Nederland football game as the thread title suggests. It is inflammatory and directed at a specific kid or kids.1 point

Just saw a stat that Vidor defense only gave up 53 yards rushing to their running back that had rushed for 300 yards each of the two previous games. Well done Pirates!1 point

Vidor had the ball 11 possessions, scored tds on 10 of them. 1 incomplete pass, no offensive turnovers; Huffman did recover 1 on side kick. Really good offensive performance and a good defensive first half.1 point
