Man there is a lot to unpack here. I'm literally laughing out loud reading most of these comments. Clearly a bunch of new Huffman trolls but mixed in with a really inflated opinion of their team. I'm a fan of Huffman. Unfortunately I'm a bigger fan of the truth. The truth is Drayden Bacon (the RB) is probably the best player in the district and can single handedly win a game for you. The younger Bacon (Dailen) is probably the fastest kid in district and can run by any DB out there and his hands are improving. Both are D1 talents. Huffman has 2 linemen that are D1 talents in my opinion. One has several D1 offers and the other should. After these 4 kids, the well is pretty dry. #13 is very well rounded football player. Everyone else is just a guy on the team. They are so far below average on defense it's crazy the OCs haven't exploited them more. Why do you think they went to a 5 man front? Because they can't stop running water with 4. Obviously teams should be picking them apart in the air, but no teams in this district can pass the ball so they are getting away with it. Vidor is a bad matchup for Huffman. I feel they will wear them down and run away with it at the end. I think all these Huffman players need to get off their phones and worry about the game and not a blog.4 points -
Mid County Madness Nederland vs PNG
PNGFaithful and 2 others reacted to navydawg31 for a topic
In Mid-County Madness, throw the records out once the ball is kicked off. The Bulldogs need Jaedon Ned and their running game to keep the chains moving, control possession, and keep PNG's offense on the sideline. Long, sustained drives would be a major advantage for Nederland. Brayden Clay can turn a short completion into a bigger play. Plus his dynamic special teams play. If the Indians hit explosive plays early, Nederland could be forced to abandon its preferred game plan. Not good for the Bulldogs. This is Nederlandās most talented front 7 since those mid 2010ās years. In a rivalry this intense, one interception, fumble, or special-teams mistake can decide everything. Nederland needs to play disciplined football. If the Bulldogs can hold PNG under 25 points, win the turnover battle, and run the ball effectively. The Dogs will come out on top and spoil the party at the Rez. Going to be a great game like always come Friday Night.3 points -
I will say I think honestly it won't speed the game up that much as 35 seconds is a very long time so I think it could lead to longer possessions. It will force coaches to have some late shot clock built in actions to run if their offense isn't producing a shot after 25 seconds. Also teams that rely on pressing like in the college game can adapt if in foul trouble to force teams into shorter half-court possessions with a slower press with less trapping as that is what I have heard the most in my conversations with college coaches about the change. There are lots of mini games that can be played with it that will take a few people a while. I don't mind people holding the ball either, I do like this for late game the most as teams will have to be able to play a little better late game than just use an elite guard to dribble around to run clock out in late game too. But I 100% see your point about it taking some styles away.3 points

UIL approves shot clock
rupert3 and 2 others reacted to AggiesAreWe for a topic
I personally don't think it adds. It takes away more than it adds. It will be more cookie cutter basketball. Everyone basically forced to play the same styles. I don't think that's a good thing. I want a coach to be able to coach however he/she thinks is best for his/her team's success. If that means being more deliberate style (not holding the ball for a quarter, I'm not for that) then so be it. Not every school has athletes and basketball skills to compete in an up tempo game. Coaches and players will eventually adapt but to me there was no logical reason for it. And don't say it helps prepare for the next level. That's for only about 5% of the players in the entire state. The other 95% ends their basketball playing days in the high school gyms. I just think UIL finally succumbed to the select few and fanbase.3 points -

Google search: Economists and political analysts generally do not consider the Trump administration's equity investments in private companies to be socialism, though critics and some conservatives characterize the actions as state capitalism, interventionism, or a form of "venture socialism". [1, 2, 3] Why It Is Not Traditionally Defined as Socialism Definition of Socialism: True socialism involves collective or government ownership and centralized control over the means of production, distribution, and pricing (as seen historically in state-run economies). [1, 2] Passive Stakes vs. Control: Administration officials, such as economic advisor Kevin Hassett, argue that acquiring minority shares or passive equity stakes (such as in Intel, MP Materials, or various CHIPS Act recipients) does not mean the government is running the companies or dictating day-to-day business operations. [1, 2, 3] National Security & Market Correction: Supportersāincluding pieces from the American Enterprise Instituteāargue that taking strategic stakes or "golden shares" (such as with U.S. Steel) is a targeted intervention to protect critical supply chains and counter foreign market distortions, rather than replacing free-market capitalism. [1, 2, 3] Why Critics Call It Socialism or State Control Unprecedented Federal Ownership: The administration has expanded federal equity and quasi-equity holdings across dozens of private companies in sectors like tech, mining, and energy. [1, 2] Coercive Levers: Critics from both the left (such as commentators on MS NOW) and libertarian/conservative groups (such as the Cato Institute) argue that conditioning subsidies, permits, or government contracts on handing over equity or demanding leadership changes blurs the line between public and private sectors. [1, 2] State Capitalism: Many analysts classify the model as State Capitalism in Americaāa hybrid system where private enterprise remains intact, but the state actively picks winners, shapes capital allocation, and exerts political pressure on corporate boardrooms2 points

Big difference between a Houston school and Houston area school. š¤·š¾āāļø2 points -
I feel like if this is the issue for a team then a shot clock isn't going to make a difference. Not to be brash, but this sounds like what my old coach used to tell me, that's a YOU problem. You would still need to advance the ball past halfcourt in 10 secs, and if I'm the opposing team and realize your inabilities then I'm pressing you with simple M2M. Then the shot clock is the least of your worries cause even if you get it across I'm staying on you. Teams with short benches are going to struggle regardless, not as a reult of a shot clock. Let's be honest we're probably talking an extra 6-8 possessions a game. 35 seconds is a LONG time. The part I will agree with is the issues it may cause within smaller schools that you mentioned and officials, but make no mistake, if your team is bad it's not the shot clocks fault.2 points

Lufkin at Goose Creek Memorial Week 9 Predictions
LP2X reacted to PackAttack for a topic
I don't know where Lufkin lands this year, still got to play the games. Just to clarify, the Panthers are in the 2nd year under Coach Carl Abseck, all new system, a lot of young inexperienced talent starting the year, rebuilding situations don't happen overnight. Haven't read anyone from Lufkin knocking LP, at least I know and respect how good that program is right now. The main beef with Lufkin in this district is because no one wants to travel to Lufkin. I get it, we are not exactly next door, but we do have to go to Baytown twice this year so we make up for some of that. š«¢ Lufkin must travel wherever the UIL places them, North Mesquite, West Mesquite, Tyler, Longview, Forney, McKinney North, yes McKinney North, even College Station, AMC, Magnolia, Conroe, Atascocita, Waller, Willis, Klein, THW, THWCP, Kingwood Park, Kingwood, we were with West Brook back 10-12 years ago, and this is our third round with New Caney in a district, first time was on a grass field 2008, even an East Texas district in 2014-2015. We have played in more district scenarios than anyone in SETX can imagine, bouncing from 6A to 5A to 6A and back to 5A in the last 20 years, and the travel??? There's only two 5A DI schools in East Texas, Lufkin and Tyler so we both get bounced around. Sorry to be long winded but so many know nothing about how Lufkin ends up where they do in realignments. Hey, LP and PAM came in with all the hype and expectations in this district and it's playing out pretty much that way #1 and #2. They have proven they are the best two teams. Lufkin is just trying to find a playoff spot and see what happens. I think Goose Creek Memorial presents a good challenge for Lufkin, and a must win for both schools.1 point -

I know an entire community who will debate you all day long. I can throw a rock twice from my house and hit the Liberty County line. Are we in Harris County? Yes. Would anyone from Huffman claim to be a Houston area school? Hell no. They'd probably be fighting mad lol. Most folks here live on a minimum of 2-3 acres. That's about as far from "Houston" as it gets. I still haven't heard an explanation as to why this means Huffman should dominate the district in football. But I am genuinely curious to hear it. I look forward to picking the explanation apart.1 point -
Let's tap the breaks about saying Shepherd is underachieving this year and look at things historically. This current staff has won 1 of the 2 ONLY playoff games ever won in school history. The other time came in the 60's. I don't care if it was when they dropped to 3A...that's a lot of years of existence without a playoff win. Not too long ago, there was an athlete there that played for the Jets and the Steelers, one that I believe is still pitching in the majors, and had one on that team start at Sam Houston and they didn't win a playoff game...even though on paper they should have. Shepherd is one of those places where you rarely see people get out of there (or the surrounding area) and go make something of themselves. What I'm getting at, is when you see Shepherd, you think they should be better than they are. The issue is a community mindset that keeps them from being better at anything than they are. Are there good kids there? Absolutely! Are there good people there? Absolutely! Until you look at the dynamics of what really goes on in there I'd hold off on the underachieving part. There's a maroon and gold school not too far away that, on paper, has better demographics than Shepherd and the same could be said about them underachieving in all things.1 point

UIL approves shot clock
rupert3 reacted to navydawg31 for a topic
A shot clock creates pressure to attempt a shot before time expires. For teams with inexperienced guards or limited ball-handling ability, that can mean more rushed passes, careless turnovers, and low-percentage shots. A faster pace can lead to more possessions, more transition opportunities, and greater physical demands. Teams with short benches may struggle to keep players fresh, particularly during tournaments with multiple games in a day. The shot clock adds another timing responsibility. Officials must determine when it resets, when it continues, and whether a shot hits the rim or results in a violation. Mistakes can directly affect close games. Schools may need to purchase shot clocks, install them, maintain them, and train officials and operators. Smaller districts could feel that financial burden more than wealthy districts.⦠plus the shortage of officials state wide letās not forget.1 point -

The more I read about this incident it blows my mind the bravery of these bystanders and teacher. A witness driving by saw the shooter jump over the fence and he confronted him - shooter fired shots into his vehicle. That was equally as brave as it was stupid.....You can't notify 911 if you're dead. Luckily he was not injured and made the first 911 call. The hero of this story seen the interaction with the vehicle and drove into the parking lot, grabbed his 40 caliber and ran to where he heard shots. A female teacher threw her phone at him and started wrestling him and dude came in and put down the shooter. I'm not going to lie, I would be scared to death to walk into a school with a gun and be mistaken for "the shooter" - that was a brave dude on several levels. [Hidden Content]1 point
