  1. One of the greatest college baseball coaches of all time, Wayne Graham, made a statement some time ago that he always recruited multi sport athletes over straight baseball players. Said their mentality, toughness and all around athletic abilities were more important than being a baseball savant. I have always been about playing as many sports as possible, particularly at a young age. This bull about making an 8 year old play only one sport year round is nothing but selfishness from the coach. Plain and simple.

West Brook and United go DI Nederland, PAM and BH would go DII, whichever of the three make playoffs. Baytown Sterling could put a wrench in it if they were to somehow make playoffs. They are the 2nd largest enrollment behind West Brook. Enrollment size goes as follows; West Brook Sterling United PA Memorial Barbers Hill Lee PN-G Nederland

    2025 Schedules

We will play anybody that is willing to play. We likely will be in the state championship in basketball also and we have two players that don't play basketball. This means we likely don't have a baseball team until March. We will have a few day practice before we play our first district game. Our schedule has nothing to do with a lack of desire for hirer competition I can promise you that. Everybody is in district by the time we get started therefore nobody wants to play extra games during their district schedule with pitch counts being a factor. Nobody wants to play on Saturdays either. We played Garrison at 4:30 and Chester at 7:00 on the same night last year just to get some decent games in. We will play anybody that wants to come to our place on the night we have a district game and we will make it a double header. We will play anybody on a Saturday. People see us play and they have no clue the things we have overcome to get there. We miss more than half our season and have absolutely no pre-season year in and year out.

    California Fires!

Anyone watch the video of the Los Angeles Assistant Fire Chief saying that if a person responds to your emergency, you want someone who looks like you? This premise she claims is based on if we look the same, the firefighter would better understand your situation. What situation? Let’s see, a heterosexual White male firefighter finds a woman in a burning house who is suffering smoke inhalation and at risk of death. But wait? Is she a race other than White? What are her pronouns? Is she actually a born female or a transgender female? How long should the male firefighter question her before he can tell if he understands her situation? “I realize that you are at risk of death but I really need to understand your situation”. When answering a follow up situation that the Assistant Fire Chief brought up about whether a woman firefighter could drag a person out of a burning building, her response was, “He got himself in the wrong place if I have to carry him out of a fire”. I wonder if the police could use the same rationale? Maybe the police could say, we realize that you are a victim of a violent assault but before we can assist you, are you concerned that we have a different ethnicity or our pronouns are different? Also note that you should not have gotten yourself into the situation where you were assaulted! So by the Assistant Fire Chief’s own words, the ability to do the job physically is not important. It is knowing and understanding that people being rescued (or perhaps a weak and failed attempt at a rescue) are concerned if the person saving his/her life either looks the same or has the same lifestyle. Heck, maybe a straight Black woman would reject having her life saved if the only rescuer was a transgender male. DEI at its finest….. 😳

Interesting. Because I’ve read quite a bit of medical literature that actually recommends multiple sports for better muscle growth and injury prevention. When I was growing up, I played youth football. But, as I got older, my mom made me choose—more because we couldn’t afford to be involved in everything—and she did discourage football over other sports. So, I played baseball and was on the swim/dive team in high school & went with swimming in college before joining the military.

  8. OlDawg's point is salient, but I'll add some additional food for thought. Put yourself in the shoes of a head coach. You want to build a winning program and you know you need to establish the right program culture to do that. You want to work at a school with a culture that's conducive to that kind of thing, run by an administration that supports it and a community that values it. Do you want to work in a school system where an appreciable number of students is running around wearing animal masks, audibly barking, growling, meowing, and purring in classrooms, because they openly identify as a species other than human? With an administration that either finds that behavior acceptable or is too afraid of social media hysteria to squelch it, and an appreciable number of parents and faculty in the community who openly, vocally support it? Do you think that kind of general social dynamic at the school you work for is compatible with the program culture you need to build to have sustained success on the field and, ultimately, mold successful, healthy, balanced, well-adjusted young men? More importantly, do you think that kind of culture lends itself to any kind of success at that school, academic, extracurricular, or otherwise? Do you think it promotes an effective learning environment, or that it more likely disrupts that environment with excessive and unnecessary distractions that ultimately make it harder for good teachers to teach and dedicated students to learn? That's the behavior that's crept into--and become all too prolific in--the high schools in the Round Rock and Leander school districts the last few school years, and that's the dilemma that's come with it. I personally know teachers leaving for other districts or private schools, or leaving the profession altogether, because of it. And I've seen firsthand parents who feel like their kids are trapped in it. Reread my post. I stated that "[o]n a spectrum that includes the PN-G, BH, Westlake, Southlake, and Cedar Park/Northwest Hills communities, the first four are all way closer to each other in terms of culture, values, history, and tradition than any of them are to the Highway 183 Province of the People’s Republic of Austin." I know for a fact this sort of thing isn't happening in Port Neches, Groves, Eanes, or Lakeway. I don't think it's happening in Southlake or Mont Belvieu, either. But it's definitely happening along the line between Travis County and Williamson County. That's where your political--and more importantly, social--dynamic comes into play. And that's all that I had in mind when I made the simple comment that different dynamics exist between Barbers Hill and Cedar Park that birthed this line of conversation.

The 8 years I worked for the ambulance service, no one I ever "rescued" or rushed to the hospital cared about anything but them getting help.....lol The amount of word play about this enter disaster is ridiculous.

  15. You know what HAS surged in the last decade? Social media platforms & gaming. I think that has as much or more to do with it than anything. Just my opinion, of course.

  16. I know. I was just trying to be fair. Lee has been way better but this year it was not quite the same mismatch with the other two Baytown teams as it has been. Good to hear that BJS and HMJ are bringing 8n some talent.

  18. Not really fair to compare overall record. Lee has a much easier district schedule. Sterling closed the gap a bit this year. I think Lee has a pretty good freshman group this year that will supplement things next year. Will need to replace the QB again though. I'd guess they will be right about where they have been the last half decade.

  19. Absolutely not! I’m not mad at Huffman for anything. Their coach annoys me like how they have 9 fouls the whole game and yet everytime a whistle went against him he acted like everyone was cheating them. Don’t get me wrong if the refs are gullible enough to fall for it then that’s an advantage and these definitely did. I just hate how they ruined a very competitive game by taking out the best players from one side by calling it overly tight on one side. Hats off to Huffman. Good aggressive team with a good coaching staff.

Football participation is down 14% in the last decade due to changing demographics and a population base that prefers to play soccer.

  23. At the time that they were put into 5AD1 they did not have a senior class yet at the school. This is the first senior class of Randal which means that every Freshman at the school this year was not counted during reclassification last year. At next realignment they will have all 4 they only had 3 at the last relaignment

  24. Zac Sells plays in tough district game last night, then this morning he is officiating 4 (maybe more) Little Dribbler games. Just called my grandson's game at 11am. Special young man. BTW, Silsbee beat Kountze 34-11. lol My grandson had 2 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 9 steals, 5 turnovers.

  27. I just reviewed those formulas for new schools and my understanding is it only affects the first year or entering into competition. I don't believe any calculation occurs last year when they have already gone through an initial opening calculation three years ago. This is their second alignment. I am not saying they did anything on ourposebut just like George Ranch when they won State, they get the advantage of being a growing school that catches enrollment that gives them 5a division 2 numbers. Those numbers were taken last year. I am sure today they have 6a division 2 numbers enrolled in the school and eligible to play ball. They will get two years of this advantage then likely fade into obscurity like George Ranch did

Belichick could've come in the past couple seasons for the Lions and it wasn't gonna make a difference. It's the Jimmy's and the Joe's Then again, as I said before and it's been mentioned since, as long as they get 4th and make playoffs then it's a job well done for the Lions.

  29. I never implied Livingston could be 3A. I was commenting on something I said earlier RE 3A, that also applies to 4A Livingston: There are low bars to step over. Point is, it does not take too much to turn around a 3A or 4A program in SETX. Any real improvement will show up quickly. It contrasts with, for example, trying to grow a 6A program. Its hard to step over a North Shore, Atascocita, Summer Creek and Kingwood.

  30. It’s everything mentioned and more. Here’s another one. Kids playing one sport and one sport only year-round. 2 different sports my kid played in youth league, the coaches told me that for him to “move to the next level” he’d have to play/practice/train for that sport year-round. In both instances I told those coaches we couldn’t do that because my son had football. Both told me that they wanted him for their “Competitive” leagues but if he wasn’t ready to commit to year-round and give up football then he’d have to stay in Rec league until he aged out. My son was like 9-10 years old BTW. There’s kids that get locked into soccer or baseball or whatever at 7/8/9 years old and that’s ALL they play. Coaches/Parents are convinced that’s the way to go which I totally disagree with but whatever. There’s a lot of kids that could be great multi-sport athletes with one of those sports being football but can’t because mom/dad/trainer/coach are convinced that Jr’s only chance at a scholly to a D1 school is playing baseball year-round for the next decade.
