Very very few. Usually it's just one school that appeals their district alignment. In this case, the whole district should appeal it's regional alignment.2 points -

Well, today I guess we get to find out who we're going 2-8 against next season? Have new QB transferring in which fits more along the lines of what Willis wants to run but as far as talent retention the wheels continue to come off. The Austin Walter-like stud freshman running back transferred out a few weeks ago and we may be losing the Craig Williams clone out of the same class. Going to be a depressing journey until we can get a coach who can pump some life back into the program.1 point -

I miss those years where it was HJ/Silsbee fighting it out for district every year and then competing to make it to state. HJ has obviously dropped off some in the last 10 years or so, and Silsbee has gotten even better, but the whole landscape of 4A basketball is skewed due to all the houston teams in our region, combined with having to face the dallas teams if you make it to state.1 point

Ideal 2024-25 Pre-District Schedule for Your Team
PN-G bamatex reacted to PhatMack19 for a topic
I like PNG’s non district schedule the last few years. - 1 decently easy win. You can get some different kids in and try some new things. - 1 team that’s pretty equal. You have to play a complete game to win. -1 team that’s better than you. You can learn a lot about your team from all 3 of those type games. I’m not a fan of scheduling 0-3 and getting beat up before district. Monte still may have a job if he didn’t schedule 0-3 starts the last few years. Also with the out of town districts, I doubt coaches will be looking to travel much for non district games. We’ve had enough early releases from school the last few years…..1 point -

Mike Trahan - NEW Buna Head Football Coach
RETIREDFAN1 reacted to oldschool2 for a topic
The list of things that can change between JH and HS is vast. It's more likely than not that JH success won't be the same in HS. 1st and foremost.. 7th grade kids playing against everyone else's 7th grade kids and 8th grade kids playing against everyone else's 8th grade kids is not evenly remotely the same as 9-12th against 9-12th. A grade level of kids playing with either the grade above them or below them.. or both can dramatically change the success/failure compared to when it was just them. Not only do kids mature, gain strength, gain speed, gain size, and gain skill (both physically and mentally) at completely different levels and pace individually, but kids actually WORK and/or gain/lose interest completely different. Forget about the other obvious variables.. like: academic eligibility, transferring (both losing and gaining kids), quitting, reclassification, coaching change, etc. etc. etc. The situation for a Senior IS NOT THE SAME as that same kid's situation was when they were a 7th grader. To think so is idiotic. It's truly funny to me to hear people make predictions based on what happened in JH... might as well add little league as a predictor lol.1 point -

Not to be a negative Nancy, but having some good groups come through in JH usually doesn't translate to HS success. Back when I was in JH school, we destroyed everyone, went undefeated and were "district champs". Senior year in HS we went 5-5 and our coach got canned at the end of the year. 🤷♂️1 point -
It is also nice to have multiple athletes 6'-3"+, 280+ to shore up the trenches..... I haven't seen many of those walking around NHS1 point

Right - this is something I think needs to be underlined. Joseph inherited a healthy program with kids who had won several key games and had had a deep-ish playoff run. He didn’t have to “rebuild” so much as “redirect.” It sounds like Nederland will need to do something closer to a true rebuild. That’s going to be key in how people evaluate the new guy. If the standard is “do exactly what png did and go straight to state,” that’s probably not going to work, because Faircloth left PNG in a state that is ahead of schedule relative to where Nederland is. But, I don’t think we’re talking a several year rebuild. I think Nederland just needs to get kids back , get more kids in, hit the weight room better and structure themselves to go toe-to-toe with the power and conditioning of elite programs. They aren’t far off - If Nederland had 1% improvements across every category of improvement, they become an entirely different team. A lot of Nedeand’s woes amount to just being left behind, not so much getting worse . The last two years, Barrow would probably have gone at least 1-1 against PNG if Faircloth had stayed the coach, because Faircloth built his teams the way Barrow does - Poor conditioning, low strength training, no attention to defense, and just hope you win by two points in a shootout. Joseph doesn’t do that, and he showed that there‘a a recipe for the mid county schools to compete at the highest level. Nederland can do it too, but given the current state of the program it might take a year or two to really see the results. But it could also be immediate, as we’ve seen.1 point

Things at PNG wasn't as bad as they were towards the end at Nederland. PNG probably had the good players from the halls that were already playing when the new coach got there. Kids quit and never came out because how bad Nederland had become. Get the right coach and start winning and you'll see how many kids you'll have available.1 point

Whoever takes the Nederland will be setting their own ways and culture that’s what happens when a Head Coach takes over… PNG in 2008 2-7 Faircloth comes in set his culture rebuild in year 1 in 2009 11-1… Peevey at LCM year before he got there 1-7 when Peevey arrived 11-3… there’s a lot of talent walking them halls and lot of kids specializing in only 1 sport, gotta get those kids back into the program and play multiple sports. Coaching staff got very stale and ran its course. Gotta stop the family and friends and hiring and start the hiring best qualified coach which I’m hoping NISD has learned its lesson on that one…. Starts at the top and they are making a change a step imo in the right direction.1 point -
