  1. Say what you want about Monte, he was and is a class act. On and off the football field. Wishing him nothing but the best in whatever his plans are and sincere gratitude for his efforts.

  2. Has NISD or Barrow released anything official yet on retirement, resigned or re-assigned? Until then the 7 year time clock can not be prepared to be activated for the new coach

  3. Ok, I am going to go ahead and get this out of the way before it gets out of hand. Lets not get to the point of coach bashing. It hasn't happened yet in my opinion but don't go down that road.

  4. Vidor has too many Monday morning QBs or bleacher coaches that know way more than the coaches on the sidelines. Instead of getting their kids to buy in, they spend their time badmouthing the coaches... and yes, I hear this weekly at Vidor games or sitting on patios having a few cold ones with the guys. P.S. Yes, Vidor under Mathews spent a lot of time at LH.

  6. The OC was a below average hire. Theriot won’t be back. I bet OF or over to BC as DC..where his kids go. maybe the new AD will get quality Strength/conditioning program πŸ‘€

  13. This is pretty simple if you understand the culture in LH. The varsity staff works with all coaches at all levels, even into little league, to teach the Slot T offense. The varsity coaches have monthly meetings with the little league coaches and get scouting reports on players coming up through the program so when they get into the 7th grade, the coaches already know who is who and who plays where. It is taught the same way in the 4th grade as it is taught at the varsity level, so the kids understand it and want to operate in that offense. Any dads who think their kids are going to be division 1 receivers and QBs take their kids elsewhere so that the only ones who are left are the ones who are committed to thriving in the slot T. This is the product of consistency in program leadership for many many years and the commitment of that leadership to build a successful program from the bottom up. Therefore, to replicate what LIberty Hill has is absolutely impossible without long term commitment and community buy in. Vidor has/had too many folks always looking for a reason to run Matthews off and complaining about the Slot T to even begin to try to replicate what Liberty Hill has.

  14. You have never run an athletic program and there is no other way. You cannot have the entire school in a single athletic period consisting of kids who do not play sports. They will destroy the program and prevent the coaches from interacting with players who actually play on a team in addition to destroying the discipline in the program. If it is not a "riddle", tell us what school you are referencing.

  16. There’s way more to it. The incident apparently happened at Texan Live amongst a sea of purple. I’ve heard what happened but this probably isn’t the platform to discuss it in detail. Regardless, he’s not with PNG anymore.

  19. Students should be in the athletic period for any team sport for sure.. including baseball/softball. I could see the argument for not letting kids in that play individual type, after school sports (golf, tennis, etc.) even though I don't necessarily agree with it. I think all athletes should be lifting/running/training for their sport outside of its season. And even sometimes during season.. depending on what the coach of that sport deems best.

  20. New coach at least needs to bring in new OC and new DC. But also needs to find the best O-line coach possible and bring him in.

  21. Great news! A head coach should be allowed to bring in his own staff.

  23. State wide search has begun for new AD\Head Football Coach. All coaching positions will be open for the new AD to fill. if you are a certified teacher in anything but PE you probably have a teaching job if not picked to coach by the new AD. Nederland current staff has like 7 football coaches that do PE only.

  24. Allowing all kids into athletics just because they want to or sign up for it is a huge mistake. There are numerous reasons for removing kids from an athletics class. Including but not limited to: A senior finished with sports, a student/athlete that doesn't play anything, behavior reasons, academic reasons, and probably many more. Make it public which schools just allow any kid into athletics that want to be.. because I'm sure there are other coaches that would like to schedule them.

  25. The new AD will probably want his own coordinators , some of the assistants might stay if asked.

  26. It was probably an either/or conversation. I figured he would retire with the amount of time he had in the district. He's in his mid to late fifties I guess, so he might move on somewhere else.

  33. With the immediate head coaching success Jeff Joseph has had at PNG, the in house hire at Nederland is out the window. Even NISD Super. & school board can't be that dumb & not follow a similar process PNG isd did.

  40. I realize it fully. SRs after football that are no longer playing other sports are not allowed to hang out with the kids still playing sports only to detract from their efforts. The reason that SRs are removed is because they frequently cause discipline problems for the program after they are no longer playing sports. This is the same reason that kids not playing football are not allowed in athletics because the vast majority are only trying to not be in PE and thus work against the program. They will all say that they "are baseball" or "are powerlifting" and then when the season rolls around they never materialize, yet they consumed resources for the whole year and there is nothing that anyone can do as the year has nearly passed. They were simply dead weight to the program for the whole year.

  42. Not sure what school your riddle pertains to but there are "MANY" schools that do not allow students that do not play football in the athletic period. It is because there is not enough coaches to coach them all and there are always a hoard of kids that will claim they are "baseball" or "powerlifitng" or some other sport and then never make the team. Their only agenda is to "not be in PE".

  44. The complaint is not about PN-g. The complaint is about an official having a conflict of interest or appearing to have one. If he would have excused himself from the game there would not be and discussion about this. Y'all can thank him for the distraction next time you get you teeth cleaned by him or you see him at the local DQ or Marketbasket.
