From KFDM's Angel San Juan: I just talked to PN-G ISD superintendent Mike Gonzales, who says the district has hired legendary high school and college football coach Todd Dodge as a consultant to help PN-G in its search for a new football coach. Dr. Gonzales says, once a new coach is selected, Dodge has agreed to stay on as a mentor for one year to the new PN-G coach. Dodge, 58, is a Port Arthur native, who played quarterback for the University of Texas in Austin. He is currently the head coach at Westlake High School in Austin, he will retire from there at the end of the month. Gonzales says PN-G ISD could not hire Dodge as coach since he has decided to retire, but Gonzales says "We were able to hire the best to help us find the best." Gonzales says up until this point, there have been 36 applicants for the top coaching job, he says applications will be accepted through Thursday afternoon.

The names will come out. I usually file a request once the job closes or 10-15 days after the job is posted. They have ten days to respond with the request. Districts are known to drag this out longer than ten days though. About to send off Jasper and will file for PNG Friday.

I say throw money at Art Briles. No reason not to. He’d be awesome.

Well, I have been an admin on this site since 2006 (16 years, site started in Dec. 2005) and I have seen many accounts on this site be folks who claim have never had an account. As a regular member, you do not have the access that we admins have here in checking out accounts on this site so you really DON'T KNOW. Can only take their word. Again, I am not saying who has an account or not has one but you simply cannot state YOU KNOW and call it fact unless you have access to those accounts. bullets has access and has done some research. I would tend to agree with him before I take your word.

Stephenville wins that game with Smitty/Reagan coaching against Burnett. They were clearly the better team, and that was for all intents and purposes a home game for PNG (shoutout to Indian Nation who is second to none - well maybe second to 20th century MOJO). As I recall, Stephenville won by double digits, even after fumbling not once, but twice on the Indian 1 yard line. Just wasn’t that close. To be fair, that was one fine Yellowjacket team.

To be fair Briles son was probably the best QB I’ve seen at the HS level. PNG QB is good, but not Briles good. His son single handed beat PNG for state. Lol

Can you imagine the pandemonium on here and the media had Nederland pulled off the upset. In my opinion it wouldve been larger than the buzzer beater Arceneaux hit to win the 5A championship. Instead there's debate about stall ball, shot clock style points and moral victory. Good luck to both programs the rest of the way.

I guess that’s my problem. I have no problem accepting that most of the time, a guy that’s best able to perform on the field in the defensive secondary will be black. I have no problem recognizing that Christian McCaffrey is an racial anomaly at running back. I fully trust that team is putting the best player possible on the field in order to win games… regardless of their race. But when it comes to qbs and coaches, suddenly the inherent racism of the football world rears its ugly head. I personally thought that Brian Flores must be a pretty good coach. He earned a shot and was turning the team around based on their improving record. I understood that the Tua situation was possibly being mishandled, but apparently Flores was difficult… I guess a good question is whether or not fighting with ownership is a good way to prolong one’s employment, but apparently that doesn’t matter if one has a race card available to throw on a moment’s notice. A racist would have never hired you in the first place.

No matter your political beliefs, what party you vote for any other kind of technical data, who are these people that think crime, economy, supply chain, foreign policy, inflation, gas priced, etc., are heading in the right direction? I understand a political argument such as, in my opinion the Democrats will lead us out of this mess…. but how do you not know it’s a mess and is currently trending downward negatively in almost every category?

I think there's a lot of value in a PNG vs Crosby non-district game. PNG gets a test athletically and Crosby has to play in in maybe the toughest environment in 5A after a long bus ride which is similar to how the playoffs are. I think Coach P prefers to try to make us go 0-3 to start every season though?

Highly recommend tuning into Beard’s return to Lubbock tonight. One thing about it, those Tech students rarely disappoint in these situations (well maybe their parents and their pastors but not those of us that enjoy their jackassery). Chris might want to wear a helmet on the bench.

I never said I think that. What I think is that even the best coaches go through cycles with their programs. Sometimes, they have a mediocre season or two. It happens. That's the nature of high school football. The key is being able to maximize the talent you have, and overcome the disadvantage through execution, fundamentals and discipline wherever possible. Your question to me was whether I thought Peevey's departure from West Brook had to do with a lack of upcoming talent. I gave a specific answer to that narrow question which accounted for a much broader range of potential motivators for that move, which I think were much more likely factors than lacking talent. BISD consistently produces a worthwhile crop of talent, and West Brook, in my opinion, is set to gain a larger share of that talent now that Ozen and Central have merged. There's little doubt that if Peevey had stayed at West Brook, he would have continued to have winning seasons at least most of the time, even if not in the immediate future. He would certainly be working with more talent than he has at LC-M. Whether Peevey would have done better than Langston in 2021 is a separate question. We'll never know the answer, but based on their respective records, I wouldn't bet against Peevey. I don't think there are many coaches out there who could turn LC-M around in his first season the way Peevey has. For that matter, I don't think there are many coaches out there who could have gotten West Brook to the state championship in 2018 the way Peevey did. Peevey has repeatedly shown he has the ability to make a successful high school program, amassing a 44-18 (.710) record in five seasons as a high school head coach that includes a playoff run every season, a district championship, and a quarterfinal appearance in addition to the state championship appearance. Even adding Langston's 48-37 (.565) record as a college head coach to his 14-25 (.359) record as a high school head coach, Langston's overall head coaching record is a break-even 62-62 (.500). It includes two FCS playoff appearances and one FBS bowl appearance in eight seasons at the college level, and no playoff appearances in four seasons at the high school level. Clearly, he has yet to produce any evidence of comparable ability to Peevey. PS: Your point about Langston 'technically' improving on Peevey's 2020 record at West Brook is, at best, debatable. Langston finished the 2021 season 5-5 at West Brook with no playoff berth. Peevey took West Brook to the playoffs in 2020 and lost, for a 5-6 record. Viewed in the light most favorable to Langston, his best season as a high school head coach tied Peevey's worst.

I would seriously tell them to talk to Trinity and take a visit. He will not be disappointed at all.

Yes, Thompson probably wasn’t the top of his class. His staff tried to play it off later and said he was just using it like a joke or a metaphor or something because of too much military personnel. With all the lead up questions about the size in the shape of the island, you can tell it was not a joke. Anyone can understand the joke if during the discussion a congressman laughed and said, “We are going to get so many people on the island it might capsize“.
