Vidor has always had community support even during the lean years before Mathews became HC. We made the playoffs once in 2000 before he switched to the Slot-T in 2008 (I think) and fit it around the kids that participates and he implemented all the way down to the junior high level to learn the system as well. Since then, the Pirates have made it to the playoffs 5 times since 2009. He also bases playing time on who shows up during summer for workouts. Imo, without him, we wouldn't have the "hot box" indoor facility, the turf field, new restrooms, and video scoreboard. That's all because him getting the school board and boosters standing by and supporting him and all of it came without a bond. Plus, he's a great Christian coach and loves each one of his kids in all athletic sports in Vidor all the way down to the peewee leagues. Just my opinion...

I am not sure if this helps with Texan Live but.... I have watch some games on my iPhone. It is very spotty or does not work at all when I use Apple Safari browser. I switched to the Google Chrome browser on my iPhone and haven’t had any problems since. It always works and I can switch back and forth between games or watch a game replay the next day. I do not know if this will work for anyone else but changing my browser to google completely changed my ability to watch TL. Maybe some other browsers might work better or worse but it might be worth trying.

Carthage vs WO-S is for the state title this year. Winner of that game wins it all. I know I should be humble and say “any given Friday”, but let’s just be real. Carthage has steam rolled basically the top 5 in DII with the exception of WO-S. If any team is going to keep Carthage from dropping down and dominating DII it’s gonna be up to the Mustangs to do it. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Everybody has a ton of respect for WO-S and fans have followed them closely over the years, especially on that run from 2014-2017. Always liked watching them play. We have some history from 2013. That was a hell of a game, and TBH that was for the state title. That was the best team Carthage saw in the playoffs that year. And then the next 4 years WO-S went and played in the state championship game. But if and when that game happens, it’s going to be a defensive battle. I know WO-S is known for their D, but Carthage has had arguably the best D in the state 3 out of the last 4 years. It’s just that they don’t get as much credit because of Surratt’s offense. I think it will be a fairly low scoring game.

Like i explained earlier Crouch dont get alot of participation. Most the kids go to band. Coach Griff did not like his baseball kids to play football. So since hes gone maybe there will be more kids come out. We need a younger coach maybe someone that can bring positive energy and new ideas. I hope someone not from this area.

I disagree...HD's #23 and #3 were dominant forces in that game, on both sides of the ball. HD again, had a ton of penalty yardage (#23 had a 46 yd TD called back for a hold on the opposite side of the field) and mistakes. Several Evadale drives continued due to these. #23 also had several batted passes, QB sacks and tackles. Yes, Evadale controlled the line of scrimmage in the first half but it seemed they ran out of gas in the second. HD played DV a much better game, but they have to overcome their penalties, and that's hard to do, at any level. #23's hard running iced the 4th Qtr and ate the clock, 5&6 yds. at a time. I understand that "The 'Dale" was without their QB and I understand that, but this was a loss...no matter how you look at it.

When I watched the LCM game last Friday, they seemed like they only dressed 30-35 kids max. Is that all the participation that Crouch gets or is it from not able to dress because of grades? I know last year Vidor dressed out around the same number of kids but it was mainly because Mathews ran "Hell Week" type of program last summer to build mental toughness and 25 or kids so ended up dropping out because of it. Mathews was still able to compete in 5-A each week and barely missed out on the playoffs on the 2nd to last game of the year.

It’s not Nederland’s fault that other games were cancelled. We will see what United will be. PNG is not exactly setting the world on fire. Transitive games don’t work well when comparing unless both teams have played the same opponent. If PNG come in cocky they might get a nasty surprise Friday night.

When moody first came more kids came out including multiple transfers from west orange oddly enough we had 4 of which were "qbs".... Id expect a similar turnout with a new coach new ideas new system.... i completely agree with this... even when crouch first started community and player turnout was better. Now? Slowly declining every year... the picture seems clear to me here.

What lucky school in district 22 will be able to celebrate that district win over Silsbee, I see Silsbee going undefeated in district play this year.

I’ve watched them both. It can go either way. If Livingston wins, it won’t be by more than 2 scores. Depends on turnovers I think.

You are in a dream world my friend. Did you forget the fumble inside the 5 late in the 3rd or early in the 4th. Just look at the stats I think y’all had less than 10 yards more offense and nowhere near the fumbles Evadale had. Not to mention first time that kid at qb had ever taken a snap. I saw no big standouts on that team whatsoever. That one kid that returned the 2nd half was ok but you take away that long run and he really had nothing. Not impressed at all 12 fumbles with 4 lost and 2 jacked up interceptions. It should have been a blowout if you had some big play makers. Evadale o-line blew y’all’s d-line off the ball all night we just couldn’t get a snap they were drive killers. There were people I knew that just came to watch that didn’t have a dog in the fight and said Evadale should have won that game 17. I think you been drinking too much corona with lime!

If you play Carthage again, you have a good squad. It means you beat WOS. I would feel good about the chances at that point. It's hard to beat a team twice in the same season. Region 3 is the Region of Death. I'd favor the winner of that bracket to win it all.

PNG has been in every single game. The more I think about it, Nederland is the untested one -- the Bulldogs have played a struggling Lufkin team (Nederland is their sole win) and a horrible Jacksonville team. PNG is the one coming into this game having proved it can play in tough situations -- One fumble away from beating PAM, one pass break up away from beating Tomball. Beaumont United is also showing itself not be a scrub. If Nederland comes in cocky they are in for a wake up call, because PNG is battle tested, and Nederland is barely tested at all.

I don't see anything wrong with Silsbee's non-district schedule. Probably 4-5 state ranked teams in that schedule. Sigler is not going to schedule this year like he has the last several years because of what kind of team he has.

THIS!!! All the troubles that was going on at BISD at the time, I would not blame any parent for moving out to another school district. Particularly East Chambers. EC is an awesome school district. But, in the cases that I suspect some of you are talking about, it was family moves that brought them to EC, not athletics. BTW, I believe BISD has their act together now (or at least better than it was).

According to a few WOS fans that will be next WOS coach. I wouldn’t want him. I would look for someone of PG or Carthage staff.

I'd like to give some well-deserved credit the Sabine Pass Sharks. It takes some testicular fortitude to only have 13-14 kids suited up and still practice everyday (it's not like y'all have the numbers to "get a look") to STILL show up and play hard, no matter the outcome. Very proud for these warriors that show up everyday! Good luck this Season Sharks and prayers for y'all to stay healthy!

I really believe EC can compete with any school out there. The secondary has had some mental lapses in a few games, but are improving. But the bottom line is SPEED. And EC has it in spades! And at the 3A level, a well disciplined team, combined with an average defense, with lots of SPEED... and you have yourself a deep run in the playoffs.
