  2. Well, I will tell my stance on it. As I always do, I will use the official name of the stadium as currently assigned by the district in game threads and schedule threads. I did it when it was the "Carrol A. "Butch" Thomas Educational Support Center" and I will do it now that it is "Beaumont ISD Memorial Stadium." But as far as use of the "The Butch" in threads, heck I wouldn't be surprised if I use it myself. So while some may react to it negatively that may cause a ruckus that I may have to break up, there will be no penalty for using the name The Butch in a thread. After all, two radio stations that carried local high school football utterly refused to call it "Butch Thomas Educational Support Center" or even "The Butch" rather choosing to call it "Beaumont ISD Stadium."

  10. Great post! The influx of Hispanics(majority of them donโ€™t play football) is another player in the downfall of once proud programs.

  11. I was hoping someone would post something like this. Typically in small towns the genetic pool starts to dry up because there's nothing there as far as jobs go. I've always wondered why people think that just because a team had a string or 4-5 really good years that they're always going to have the same talent pool. I know of a small community that feels that way on I-45 just south of Huntsville that forgets about which hurricane made them good; not the home town gene pool. Navasota's talent was starting to dry up before Lee left there. If you look at Coldspring here lately kids have either been going to Willis, Huntsville, or Livingston. I'm not saying Brenham wasn't bad, but Glen had a way with those kids. And even before Glen finally retired their football participation numbers started to go down. It's interesting to see all the people that get on these message boards and are quick to point out the coaches that had great success there and tag that to the sole reason for these programs hitting "droughts". I think there's too many times where we think high school football is like college football and expect those programs to be dominating year in and year out. No one every really brings up Bay City anymore. Why don't they? With some mindsets I'm sure BC should be playing for the state championship year in and year out. Texas City, Lamarque (yes, I know what's going on there), Daingerfield, etc. They all fall prey to small town over expectations, small town last names wanting more glory, or even a lack of a local economy stable enough to support families.

Shame. That's why I tell people all of the time that playing college ball in any sport on any level is much more difficult to accomplish than realized. It's not just about skill. It's also grades, mentality, and life in general that can get in the way. I guess he'll join the crowd of who knows how many small town kids.. "I would've play college ball but (fill in the blank)"..

  22. It will come down to the run. If Silsbee can run freely & stop PNG from running, Tigers win. If PNG can run the ball, and stop the Tigers from running all over, Indians win. PNG QB Bost will be an important factor. If he gets in trouble, he can run. If his passing is on target, he can kill you with quick short passes. I know, for a fact, that this game will benefit both teams, going farther into the season. READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!

  23. I'm with Soulja for the win but I stand by my earlier concerns. Silsbee is gonna have to score in bunches... If it's a win...it's gonna be a close one. Tigers 30 Indians 28

  24. I hope they are more flexible, and reactive. Canadian killed us with their strong safety on the Jett sweep in the state game. Neece didn't have an answer for it. A soft pass behind the safety would have neutralized that play. We'll see.

    Are you ready?

Well the time has come. The waiting is over. Good luck to all and may everybody stay healthy. Remember everybody this is high school football, a bunch of kids that have sweated a lot for this opportunity. May the best team win(unless you play us). Everybody have a good year. Let the games begin.

  31. Newton 54 Kirbyville 7 Newton is actually pretty loaded this year. They have darn good players everywhere. They just don't have the "big 3" like the past two seasons. Now, the boys that were overshadowed from the the "big 3" will finally have their chance and it will show. They have some good ones. I just hope Newton shares the ball with all the athletes and keep Coach Neece's mentality.

  32. Ha ha, irks me too. He capitalized that K for Katy but couldnโ€™t show the N in North Shore any respect even after beating them twice last year and winning state...๐Ÿ˜ North Shore takes this one...

  33. Yes AL is still coaching and Iโ€™ll be the first to stand up and say that I wasnโ€™t a fan of his hiring last year when I know some of the other names that were on the list. Yes there were a few games like the Laporte game that should have been won last year that werenโ€™t. But we are past that point now. There was just as much talent on last years team as there is on this one in my opinion . The problem was (including one of my own sons ) after being Jaguars for 3 years and Panthers for 3 years, those kids didnโ€™t buy in on being United as Timberwolves. Hell the coaches didnโ€™t even buy in last year and the kids could see it. Fast forward one year. God himself has reshaped the structure of this team if you know what I mean. This group of seniors and juniors are not talking about being Jaguars and Panthers, they have bought in on being Timberwolves and being United. Even the coaches are more on the same page this year than they were last year. Everybody at 3443 Fannett Rd simply wants to win. Case in point, last years volleyball team who suffered from the same issues as the football team only won 9 games all year. Well this years team has bought in and already has 8 wins with a lot more games to go. I expect and believe that The U will have more than 2 wins and you should too...

  34. Newton has two seniors that hold D1 offers. Zach Gulley - ULM (look for him to add several to the list through his senior campaign) James Sylvester - Alabama, TCU, Florida St., Arkansas, LSU, Oklahoma, Georgia, etc.

    Thought On Social Security

If I took SS starting today it shows that I will get $2,100 a month. $1M would be the equivalent of getting that $2,100 until I was 103 years old. Nice thought but I am guessing that I wonโ€™t make it that far.... And that is putting it in the bank and not investing with it.

  40. Lmao! You still at it, and a year later. That is commitment! I've been enjoying reading all the speculation from folks who ain't in the know. Keep it up, its juicy! Well I was just dropping by. I figured Roschons biggest fan would have an opinion on him having to be an emergency Rb. Ill probably check back in the season to see how yall doing but it seems not much has changed lol

  41. I'm taking Nederland in this one. I think they'll win their district straight up this year. That's not a knock on WOS as they always have a good team I just think the dogs will be a bit better than usual this year.

  42. generally speaking on the subject, you have to consider other things besides coaching people....LIFE! families are moving to other places now. talent is getting spread out. seems as though districts are opening new schools every year. another factor is, maybe, juuuust maybe other programs are building up now and no longer intimidated by history and atmosphere. too bad teams and/or fans can't shake that mentality in setx...well one team/fan base has atleast....maybe two.

  43. That's very true. Texas being highly ranked and competitive nationally can change the dominance of those other schools we see in the playoff every year. I hate seeing top Texas Hs players going out of state and riding the bench. When they could be 3 or 4 year starters here. I hope and pray for no stupid injuries when RJ gets his chance to shine. He's another in a long line of extremely talented young men from our area to represent Texas.

  44. This is how I see it...Nederland won by just 1 last year I think this year's game will be close as well.

  45. If this game is close then Iโ€™ll never post on this message board again this season lol

  46. Due to only having two healthy running backs on the roster. Not because of his play at QB. He is the 3rd QB and emergency RB if needed. He could likely thrive at RB.
    1 point
  47. From what im told he had surgery in the Spring on his right foot, healed up, then hurt his left foot. If he plays at all this season it'll be playoff time IMO. They still set at WR though.
