Katy Freeman, Galveston Ball, Angleton, Richmond Randle, Houston Northbrook, FB Dulles, FB Bush, and Friendswood.

I think that’s them. (Including La Porte, of course.)

Sorry to say, that would not be a coverage area district.

Needs to have at least 3 of our core teams. LP and Ball are not regularly covered here.

10-5A D1 looks like spread out leftovers. Ha!

From one side of Harris County to the other (Katy Freeman & La Porte), to Brazoria County (Angleton), to Galveston County (Galveston Ball).

I don't have access to this mock, but it seems premature since cutoffs haven't been announced. Some of those teams may change depending on being classified differently. However, La Porte's travel burden will be lighter in this 10-5AD1 (45 miles avg.) than if they put them in the 8-5AD1(average of 59 miles) and for bidistrict might be paired with some Dallas area team in R2. What happened to the Pasadena schools in this mock?

I didn’t look at Pasadena schools. I’d have to look again. The travel distance in miles is one thing. Traveling from La Porte to Katy (which I did before retirement), and from La Porte to Richmond/Ft. Bend area is a different type challenge. It’s not always about miles. It’s an easy 2 to 2 1/2 hour drive in just ‘normal’ traffic, and that’s even taking 99 around. Worse on 10.

The point was, the mock looks like just the left over teams in 5A D1 who didn’t fit anywhere else.

It’s definitely a district with some solid teams.

Stepp is as blind as the people at UIL HQ

Why doesn't he put a northern Austin/Killeen area district in region 2 instead of 3?

Why doesn't he propose to send Lufkin west instead of south or north?

Lufkin is like Laredo. They don't belong anywhere.

Right now, he has Pasadena & HISD lumped together in 9-5A D1.

I actually like our district in Stepp's latest mock, especially with the addition of our old rival La Porte in it and the district being in Region 3. 😎

Especially being Region 3, I hope the MC schools get moved back as well.

Do you think Dow Lake Jackson laying off so many due to integrating AI affect enrollments at any of the local schools?

My guess it will have minimal effect on enrollments. I'm remembering when Guidant closed their Intermedics facility, a medical pacemaker manufacturer in 1999 in Angleton which employeed a whopping 1400 people just after aquiring it, I thought it would have a big affect on Angleton HS, but it didn't. There was a modest increase in Angleton's enrollment in both 2000 and 2002. Just because employees have to change jobs doesn't mean they will have to move. They will often find jobs somewhere else though they may have a longer commute. The main reason Dow is doing this is that Dow is not doing good at all, their stock has been dropping  for a long time. I'm a Dow retiree and my daughter was a chemical engineer at Dow for 19 years working in automation and she just quit them a few months ago and went to work for BASF, a company right next to Dow's Plant B. Her husband, another chemical engineer still works for Dow and should he get laid off, my hope she will be able to help him get a job at BASF. The odd thing is he started his carreer at BASF and years ago came over to Dow. For professionals, anbody getting laid off should get a 6-digit  separation package. At this point all we know is that there will be about 4500 people laid off worldwide and if iirc about 20% of Dow's workforce is in Freeport. Chemical engineers are in big demand',there's always "head hunters" looking for them.

Thanks!

Years ago, I ran the alliance between Dow & a fairly well-known E&C firm. I enjoyed it for the most part. But, the blocks were still fighting against each other in the utility rack areas between blocks. Did quite a bit of work at all 3 sites. Major work on Texas Kiln, Block 430, and the Docks.

Was called away to take over a major grass roots for Shell in Geismar.

My wife is a retired Aggie Chem E. I retired/saved enough to stop working (since I got no retirement other than what I put back) in 2015.
