When a game between two local towns gets shut down for a few years because of a massive brawl, then that is a rivalry. Jasper/Silsbee started it's rivalry in 1922 but put it on hiatus for several years later in the 20's because of a big fight during a game in '24. Didn't start back playing each other till '32 As a child, Jasper was the only rivalry I knew.

it's gotta feel pretty good to get run off from one school and land at a school that went 10-2 the year before, with both losses being competitive against two of the better teams in the state. It's gotta feel even better to get the opportunity to immediately face the team that just ran you off.

The home games ain’t what they used to be in the new gym… but still get okay crowds… back in the early 2000s those were the days to catch a home game… when Ozen, Hardin Jefferson, or East Chambers came to town you couldn’t fit anyone else in the gym..

They don’t have depth, but their starting 5 aren’t terrible and they can shoot. They just get wore down in 4Q by the front runners of the district.

The following year (2011) Silsbee played Kountze in a warm up game at Kountze. It wasn't pretty. Silsbee led by as much as 45 in the game. Ended winning 95-64. Funny story about that game. After Silsbee got up by 45, Silsbee emptied the bench. Kountze guard (I think it was TJ Stanford) hit 3 three's against the backups and came down court after hitting the 3rd one and told the Silsbee coaching staff that they better get somebody out there that can guard him. Next dead ball Silsbee put the starters back out there and immediately got back up by over 40 again with Stanford(?) not scoring a point. Back ups were put back in the game a few minutes later. Silsbee then got upset in 2nd round to Sealy and Ricky Seals-Jones.

Wanted to get yall thoughts on this. To me #1 animosity between communities and 1 just having more success than the other. (Hint hint) I think rivalries can be friendly but for the most part they're not (😂).

We used to leave dead deer on the entrances to Deer Park school buildings, burnt LP into their football field on the 50, and left birdseed all over the visitors side of Bulldog stadium where the seagulls from the Bay would shit all over their side before the game. They’d leave dead dogs on our steps. Fights, yes. But, never one like that I’m aware of. Rivalry started in ‘46.

Distance is usually the most important factor. When two towns of similar size located right next to each other play - usually ends up with bragging rights for the year.

Silsbee shot 50% from the 3 point line in this game. That's now three or four games in a row where they've shot the ball extremely well. If they can keep this up, they'll be hard to beat.

No but apparently Asians are. According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, almost 22% of medical school graduates are Asian. Their population in the US is reportedly 6%. So they are graduating doctors at a pace almost 400% higher than their population. The White population is about 61% yet they are graduating only 55% of medical students so 10% lower than their population. It seems like Asians are bumping everyone. My PCP is Asian, my dentist is Indian and my wife’s PCP and dentist are both Asian. My wife’s only surgery was from a surgeon who is Black. My younger brother recently had stents put in one of his carotid arteries by his cardiologist who is Asian as well as his pulmonologist. Those darn Asians! 🤣 My brother’s neurologist is Black. But hey, his PCP is White….. So out of eight physicians from my immediate family members, five are Asian, two are Black and one is White. Neither I nor any of my family has ever claimed that we are dissatisfied with our care nor thought our physicians were DEI hires. That is awesome about your son. There was no need for affirmative action nor DEI anything, as it should be. Congratulations.

Whether it's Carl Asbeck, Jarrod Baugh or whoever the choice will be. I have been steered in so many directions since this all started in December, it will be a relief to get to tonight or Thursday for a choice be made. Let's make this hire and move forward.

Sterling is a descent team. They are not a bad team. They have won 18 games this year. If you are comparing them to the West Brook's, United's etc... then yes, they are not as good. But Sterling is hardly a bad team.

GL to the new coach at BH but my bet is they aren't the quality of Abseck and there will be some struggles.

I think most of the fan base can agree with that. But someone else clearly doesn’t understand much and I’m not going to try and explain it to him. Say what you want about the fan base and Lufkin, but our community wasn’t in the news being called out for the same stuff that you’re trying to portray us to be. I wasn't speaking about just this thread. Facebook, X and other platforms have plenty of this talk, mostly generated from Kountze peeps. I agree on that last statement. But I also know that most of the talk is about Kountze winning the game. Nothing about it benefitting both teams. Also, not really sure the game benefits Silsbee. Most teams they will face in playoffs do not do what Kountze does. Run diamond press all game. I would want to play a warm up game vs. a team that would play a style that causes Silsbee issues (half court game). Full court pressure is not that big a deal to Silsbee. I am old school. If I am a coach, I am not scheduling a game just for the fans.

When Beto barely lost to Cruz six years ago, it was proclaimed that Texas was now a purple swing state and Cruz had won his last campaign and was finished as a senator. Oh well, that didn’t work out so well either. We could keep going but the Democrats who control the party have committed a serious faux pas. And like my relative, they have now doubled down with… but he is still a convicted felon! 😢 Understood…. because that’s all they have left after a historical embarrassment. A candidate may already be picked and agreed upon, and this just is the mandatory posting. I assume the HC/AD will also have a cert to teach which requires posting in public in some fashion. Usually, it’s 10 day minimum. I think it can be less in certain instances. But, don’t quote me on it. Been a while since I’ve been involved in Board matters, and districts can vary also.

Always someone who thinks—despite all evidence to the contrary—things will be different for them. My brother lives in Steiner Ranch. Feeds into Vandegrift. Niece & nephew graduated from Vandegrift. Barbers Hill is nothing like that area. Barbers Hill is like Deer Park. The Vandegrift/Lake Travis area is on a different level from many aspects.
