Yâall need to stop ragging on Weak Brook and instead send them all the positive energy that you can so that they can become Strong Brook and beat New Baytown on Nov 8. BTW, for those who donât know, nothing irritates a Mont Belvieu/Barberâs Hill resident more than calling their town âNew Baytownâ and their High School âNew Baytown Highâ. Iâve already got an Old Man in my inbox on here mad because I slandered his precious team. Just thought Iâd mention it since weâre discussing school nicknames and stuff like that.2 points -

Sabine Pass at West Hardin: Playoff spot on the line
RETIREDFAN1 reacted to AggiesAreWe for a topic
Even though there will be 2-3 more games after this week for these two teams, a playoff spot and seeding rides heavily on the outcome of this one. Current standings have Deweyville and Sabine Pass at 3-0. Evadale, West Hardin and West Sabine are all 1-1. A Sabine Pass win Friday night will clinch a playoff spot for the Sharks. They would finish no worse than the 3rd seed. A West Hardin win gives them the inside shot for a playoff spot. A win by 8 points or more could land them a #3 seed. Sabine Pass has two games remaining (home vs. Deweyville and at West Sabine). West Hardin has 3 games remaining after Friday (at Deweyville, home vs. West Sabine, at Colmesneil) Big game for both of these teams this Friday, I will be there for sure.1 point -

Another discussion for another time, but college for most kids (not all, but a great many) is a waste of time, money & resources... That being said, trade schools, vocational schools & technical schools are of greater value. Just my opinion. That being said, I don't think the non-football school in Beaumont is a bad thing at all.1 point -

I damn sure will work that into my lexicon. Besides, we use to beat Cove of the regular when they were 3A. I like to think they aspire to be South Lake or Westlake but in reality, they are a newer version of Deer Park w/o a Correy Pulig. I don't remember any D1 player from #newbaytown that made a name for themselves in the NCAA. I'm sure the NB folk will pull up a name so I don't wanna be too disrespectful1 point -

Hereâs the backstory. BH is adjacent to Baytown. For many years was Baytownâs Country Cousin. Folks in BH loved to brag about how great Country living was compared to the Big City but always had a chip on their shoulder about being the smaller, Country, community next to Big Bad Baytown. As Baytownâs School District, GCCISD, has allowed Baytown schools to get worse and worse year over year, more and more Baytonians have moved to Barberâs Hill or used addresses of relatives to send their kids to Barberâs Hill or take jobs with BHISD so their kids can go there. There is a MASSIVE new residential/commercial project going on right now called Riceland. Itâs on-par with Kingwood/Woodlands in size and scope and is right smack dab in the middle of Mont Belvieu/Barberâs Hill. Tons of folks are flocking into that and buying $500k+ homes because they want the illusion of Country living and they like Barberâs Hillâs strict School District thatâll spend millions fighting a kid all the way to the State Supreme Court over a haircut. Barberâs Hill enrollment is only 100 or so from the 6A cutoff, theyâre growing at a HUGE rate and a lot of it mid-to-high end stuff that is totally alien to the folks who have lived there for generations. Because the tables are turned, BH residents LOVE to thumb their noses at poor olâ Baytown but when you remind old-timers that Baytown is basically on their border now plus half their residents are folks who moved from Baytown and brought their Baytown ways with them, plus the fact that theyâre no longer really Country and just wearing a costume they get REALLY POâd about it. Hence why âNew Baytownâ and âNew Baytown Highâ gets them all worked up. Try it, see what happens.1 point -

BH has those UIL connections⌠they wonât be in that district. They avoided coming to the golden triangle for years, until forced. Schools had to drive and pass up BH on the highway to go play a couple district game down the roadâŚ.1 point -
They lost one of those 3 out of district games too, to Deer Park in double overtime. See, itâs not just about BH moving up to 6A, itâs about what 6A District theyâre going to go into. GCCISD is redrawing attendance zones this Summer to get GCM back down to 5A when UIL redraws Districts in 2026. That means UIL will have to fill that empty spot and BH is only 15 minutes from GCM so theyâd be the obvious choice. Oh yeah, did I mention that the 6A District Iâm talking about is District 23? The toughest District in the state? #3 North Shore, #5 Atascocita, #20 Summer Creek, #60 CE King, #150 Kingwood, #160 Humble all in that District. #734 Channelview is the only easy win in that District after GCM drops down. If GCM ends up dropping down and BH goes up it means no more playoffs for BH, theyâd be permanent 5th-6th place if that happens UNLESS they find a way to REALLY toughen up. Better to do it now before they make the jump.1 point

Crosby (34) @ Kingwood Park (14) - FINAL
MrFleet23 reacted to Cougar14.2 for a topic
It looks like that because we played better overall. Heâs been moving some players around the last couple of weeks and actually trying to get some of his athletes the ball which is a lot more âoffensive coordinatingâ than heâs been doing during his time in Crosby. Weâll take the progress where we can get it though. Weâre 3-0 in district play because we have better football players than three teams weâve played. Again, you take the progress from the beginning of the year where we were losing to a team like Dayton who has half the talent we do. The issue is being consistently blown out by teams with equal or slightly better talent. Crosby is benefitting record-wise from a weak district but itâs helping us learn to win again. Thursday was the most swagger Iâve seen a Crosby team play with since Willis has been our coach. Wins are wins but if youâre objectively looking at what Crosby is considering progress after a year and a half under Willis itâs a game where we play two good quarters and then get shut out until late in the fourth quarter against a team with not near the personnel of La Porte or Angleton. Crosby could be a lot better than we are but I will admit this is the best weâve looked under Willis. I guess itâs just going to take the kids overplaying his system and play-calling to achieve the results the last two coaches did?1 point -

You guys are spot on about BH. My kids are grown, but hopefully for the younger generation, they change some things. I was told they have 5:30 am practices all year long. From what Iâve seen the last couple of years, Iâm not sure how productive those early morning workouts are. It appears the boys arenât retaining the information, soft workouts, or coaching quality isnât there. Not sure which one, but scheduling soft 6A teams and beating them doesnât make you 6A ready. Now saying that, all of our sports can compete at 6A level right now with exception of football unless weâre put in Pasadena district.1 point

I lived there from 2000 - 2015, and didn't really have a dog in the fight, so I didn't follow the football too closely, but I recall that BH moved up rather quickly from 3A I think, to 4A, to 5A. The head coach and other coaches and trainer, had been there a while, and always seemed just a game away from going to state. Then the HC got fired, more or less, others moved on, retired, or passed away (I knew one coach personally, who lost a hard fought battle with cancer). The area has really grown very rapidly, and I'm not sure what old traditions are still there, just looking from a distance.1 point

It wonât be done until BH Coaching/Admin gets it done which they wonât because theyâve grown complacent and believe their own hype. The fact that the 3 nearest programs to them, (REL/RSS/GCM), arenât nearly on their level lends to this mentality of BH being the best and if they already believe theyâre great why push harder and work out in that hot sun when theyâre already great? 20-30 years ago, BH was a country-boy team. Hard-nosed, scrappy, and surrounded by other decent programs so BH always had a chip on their shoulder and something to prove so theyâd outwork those other big-city programs. Today? BH becomes more and more high-dollar suburb with each Riceland house sold and all the BH Coaches and players hear all day long is how great they are. Well, if thatâs all they ever hear, and they coast into playoffs each year due at least in some part to the schedule they play and quality of their opponents, then thereâs no chip on their shoulder. They need to get that chip back on their shoulder. BH keeps low-key signaling that theyâre 6A ready, like scheduling all 6A opponents in out-of-district this year. Theyâre never going to be if they donât do just like other posters on here are saying and toughen up. Can you imagine what would happen in 2026 when UIL redraws districts again if they dropped GCM down and bumped BH up in GCMâs place? It wonât matter how nice âThe Indoorâ is or how much they pay their Coach. BH enrollments are already close to the 6A cutoff and if they donât get right theyâll get humbled in 6A1 point

Separation Scientist reacted to Crawdad for a topic
I'm not sure who you are Separation Scientist, but you and I are on the same page entirely. BH has not played tough, physical football for 4 full quarters in years (before the Gage hiring). I feel it has 99% to do with how we work in the offseason. I know we lift weights and spend a great deal of time lifting those weights and doing footwork drills, etc., ......but are we hurting and learning to fight through the pain and get to that next level and continue on? I firmly believe in quality over quantity. Do the coaches work the kids until exhaustion and then continue pushing them? I know the answer.... they do not! We practice in an indoor air conditioned taj mahal even when the weather is great. It is much different than what the BH offseason program was in the nineties and early 2000s....and the programs of Katy and PNG of today. We worked through multiple agility, plyo, mat drills, bleachers, hill training, weight training circuits until we were puking and after we finished non-stop motion for 50 minutes all groups would meet on the track to run a quarter for time. If you didn't make the time you had to run it again. We did this every day and would routinely test strength and speed (included a mile run for time...which hasn't happened at BH in years...yes, big boys can run a mile) ....and 90% of all athletes would improve in both strength and speed throughout the offseason. This all took place in 4th period of the school day, and it got results. We didn't have any big, sloppy dudes because they couldn't make it through the offseason (they lost weight and became hosses.... or quit) and our numbers were streamlined to only include those that really wanted to be there and put in the work. One thing that didn't happen is we didn't have kids lay out injured on the field. I do not remember many, if any, ever getting hurt or missing a game. I contribute that to how we worked in the offseason. Until we get the program back to this way of thinking and working, we will continue to be mediocre. We have twice the athletes and numbers today than we did then so it would be fun to see the results. It can be done. Not sure it will be done.1 point -
