  1. 1-7 to State Regional finalist with one move in who's father was a coach. A healthy Landry and the Bears had a chance to play in Dallas. To my knowledge there's only been two additions to the varsity roster who were not already on the team the prior year. One was approved locally and the other one was approved by the state. The one that required State approval was signed off by his previous head coach but the local group of coaches abstained from voting hence it had to go to state where it received a 5-0 approval. I know you're kind of joking but you're kind of demeaning all the hard work these kids put in over the summer and the hundreds of hours of film study and work the coaches have done. Please don't make unsubstantiated claims. Rumors are like buttholes, everyone has them but these kind stink like Taco Bell. There are a ton of people that lurk on here.

  2. Correct. And if you have a monster at that nose guard position, it allows those speedy athletic linebackers to wreck shop. I love the 50 defense. Always have and always will.

  3. Jeez. It's not like these two teams have never started off 0-2.

  4. Good to know. I've been trying to spread it around in the preseason. Probably tighten up a lil more with district games. Gotta add that 2a d1 to the mix now as well. Its actually more work than I thought. Todd was master of all this. Picks, schedules, scores, multiple sports at the same times. That man never stopped.

  5. Yes it seems that we had poor coverage on right side of our defense, that needs adjustment. So true that the running back at LCM is top notch, one we may not see one like him again for awhile. Overall, I'm impressed with how the Mustangs kept their composure when they were behind 20-8 and rallied back to win.

  9. There will still be the group that no matter what moves or made by any head coach will give negative criticism. Already was a post negative about moving #12 to QB. Damned if you Do, Damned if you Don’t”. Even Neuman & Faircloth had constant criticism in their best years.

  11. Some people just can’t accept what a new culture and hard working kids can do. LCM isnt supposed to be good so they must be doing something wrong or cheating/recruiting. According to some folks.

  18. If you have a team - any team - say North Shore - and they aren’t blocking & tackling, will changing their offense help? This isn’t a trick question. The team I saw against Silsbee wasn’t blocking or tackling. The Spread, Slot T, Wishbone, I formation- doesn’t matter. Now I’m no Coach or a football guru, so if I’m wrong, please point out where I’ve gone astray. If NS can win not doing those two things, please explain how. Once Vidor starts doing those two things & they’re still getting beat, then we can talk about which offense they ought to use.

  19. Everyone on the varsity roster has been on that team for the last 4 years. Send me a personal message and tell me because i promise you have that wrong. If we had WB transfers they didnt help us against wos lol

  20. Come on man. What wos and Wb player are you talking about?
    2 points
  21. Since you asked. In the past, Todd and I always had games in the pickems that had both teams in our coverage area. Those games took priority over games that had only one team in our coverage area. Less criticism that way. It's your gig, do as you please.

    West Orange Stark vs PNG

We’ll see what PNG looks like this week against another team who can execute plays at the varsity level? Lots of mistakes on offense and lots of guys out of position on defense during the PAM game. It was very impressive what PNG was able to do to BU’s personnel but I think PNG needs to get through this week before you can really start to estimate a trajectory for them. BU is a 5A level HISD football team and that may be doing a disservice to Houston Madison. PNG dispatched them exactly how they should’ve if they’re going to be a good team this year. During the summer I said I would be interested to see if PNG offense looked more like Katy’s or SLC’s? I said one place I thought PNG had been well above average recently was the offensive line and that a Katy style offense might highlight that. Well not only does it look like Katy, they’re running the patented zone play from under center that they’ll eventually throw the play-action off of. It’s also a staple play for Carthage. I eventually expect them to start running the crack-toss and the toss counter which are the other staple plays of Katy and Paetow. One thing I saw in both games is that PNG still needs to get better at tackling in space and sticking with guys in the secondary. They probably have the personnel to make a real run at a district championship though. #19 for PNG is a baller but Prosperie is still PNG’s best offensive weapon. For whatever reason he kind of seems like an afterthought in PNG’s new offense. That being said, that’s a hard point to argue when you put up 49. Again though, you want to see them do it against a competent team.

  24. Yes sir, and it also allows you to bring more pressure off the edge when you have speed. Stop the run, control the pass.

Yes it would have if u knew how w.o ran it.its designed to put pressure off the edge with speed.more pressure on the QB.to read and react.but, LCM play calling was great the whole game.and tackling and penalties w.o has to get better at.u can't have abt 100yds in penalties and expect to beat gud teams.they got lucky to get away with them against LCM.

    West Orange Stark vs PNG

I remember it was at the old Reservation with the grass field. I THOUGHT WOS won because they recovered the fumble in the end zone. To a laymen like myself I didn't understand the rule that if a players fumbles the ball Inside the 5 and it travels into the end zone the same player has to recover the fumble. If another player recovered the fumble then it's a touch back for the other team. I remember you could hear a pin drop for 5 minutes while the refs discussed the play. I couldn't understand why they were even discussing it and why Matt Burnett was so animated down near the end zone by the refs. I though WOS won. I also remember we could barely move the ball on the Stangs and we were able to score thanks to a few timely runs by Jay Musser from the QB position. Which was not something that was normal for that offense that season.

  27. What BHFAN said is spot on. At least limit their scrambling QB and they don't have anything else, Dayton wins. Good luck Dayton.

  32. I dont disagree with you. That's why I stated in my original post that I'll reserve saying too much. I HOPE it works out. But, what I saw against LCM was what I was afraid of when I saw we were running that defense. I agree that LCM is better than most give them credit for. You know I bleed Blue and Silver. I hope they DO have a good grasp on the changes they've made. Time will tell. I think we're going to learn a lot more about it this week. I saw more that bothered me other than the scheme, hoping it was just an off night for the boys. That happens. Hopefully they are still doing the things in practice that made us fundamentally sound. Again, time will tell on that.

  33. I'm just saying it's too early to make any call. If this Mustang defense ends up giving up an average of 20 points or more this season, then the change to 4-2-5 can definitely be questioned. I think some folks are going to realize just how good this LC-M team will be come playoff time.

  36. @Mr. Buddy Garrity Nederland has growing pains to work out… you saw first hand at the potential these young dogs have, When the schedule came out I knew we could go 0-3… but when district rolls around we will be very well battle tested and ready to play. Barrow and company didn’t do no cupcakes this year they wanted all the smoke… PA, WOS and Silsbee are very very respectful and talented rich programs.

  37. LCM landed a keeper, but an honest question - how many Peevey’s are out there lined up ready to come to Vidor, Nederland, or most other towns? Bob cast his bait out there and catches a 12 pound largemouth bass. Bill & Tom cast in the same cove, with similar baits and the best they get are two pounders. That cove doesn’t have that many 12 pounders, or perhaps Bill & Tom don’t have the exactly right bait. Heck, they had 5 pounders before they got in that cove. Those two pounders won’t win no tournaments. Maybe Bill & Tom should’ve went golfing. So I ask again, how many Peevey’s are out there looking for a HC job?

  40. We all know what's wrong with nederland. A lot of talented kids quit football because they're a bunch of spoiled daddy ballers and didn't like the coaches and think they're gonna be top MLB prospects. And they campaigned to get OTHER football players to quit. Talk about the coaches all you want, but it's THE KIDS who have to play football.

  42. Such a stupid topic. Don't really care to hear the opinions of wannabe keyboard sideline coaches who probably never played a down of football in their lives, and probably learned everything about football from YouTube and tiktok. Maybe make a living as a coach before acting like you have answers.

  46. This game will be a god indication of our coaching staff and their ability to game plan. The passing game we used last week, will be non existent against WOS. Defensively WOS will play tight and bring pressure, you won’t see a CB playing 10 yards off the ball. I’m anxious to see how this shakes out. For PNG to win, I think it will need to be a strong performance by the O Line, Tommy will need to run for 100+ yards, and no turnovers on the PNG side, if we can do that, and make it a competitive game, we have a shot to win in the end. If we turn the ball over, as we did against Memorial, it will be a long night.

  47. I have and always and will respect WOS. I like to think of myself as somewhat of a PNG Football historian and can assure you the Indians have rarely beat WOS. 1977 WOS's first year PNG 36 WOS 13 1978 WOS 28 PNG 20 1979 WOS 28 PNG 24 1980 WOS 36 PNG 24 1981 PNG 30 WOS 7 1982 PNG 19 WOS 14 1983PNG 17 WOS 14 1984 WOS 23 PNG 14 1985 WOS 11 PNG 2 1988 WOS 51 PNG 0 1989 WOS 25 PNG 20 1990 WOS 35 PNG 14 1991WOS 35 PNG 16 1992 PNG 14 WOS 13 My senior year. This is the game that Dan Hooks had to forfeit due to the use of an ineligible player PNG vs WOS would have been for the District Championship Coach Matt Burnett had the choice to play the game or skip it since technically the Indians where defacto district champs. Burnett did not want an asterisk by his name so he chose to play the game. The Indians won on a two point conversion attempt by WOS as time expired. The ball was fumbled at the goalline by the WOS player and a different WOS player recovered it thus nullifying the two point conversion and leading to a slim Indians victory. 1993 WOS 42 PNG 10 1996 PNG 35 WOS 7 1997 WOS 35 PNG 0 1998 WOS 17 PNG 12 1999 WOS 21 PNG 14 2000 WOS 7 PNG 0 2001 WOS 28 PNG 0 2002 WOS 3 PNG 0 2003 WOS 21 PNG 20 2012 WOS 24 PNG 13 2013 PNG 37 WOS 34 2014 WOS 33 PNG 27 2015 WOS 28 PNG 14 WOS has always had a magnificent program. I love it when we play the Stangs because you'll find very few teams to get you ready for district play our get you ready for the playoffs. This years team at PNG has a strong o line and a lot of experience. I do not know who will win but I bet it will be a great game. People can make what they want of the two lopsided games we have played this season. I have watched nearly every practice scrimmage and game this season trying to get an understanding of our new coaching staff and type of play. The only thing I can gather from all I have seen is this is a different team than the last years and they will be a very strong team by seasons end. So I will not predict a win against WOS and believe that they deserve the respect due to them. I will be there with the rest of you all attending hoping for a safe injury free game because after the Stangs we face FBM. So hats off to you WOS team and fans. You were the program of the last decade hands down and earned everything you obtained. Looking forward to the game and I am even excited to play over there. Best of luck we will see you at the game.
