I was reading the comments in another forum. There was a lot of sympathy for the father and it was a tragic accident and so on. The bottom line is the father assumed that the gun was unloaded from the latest explanation. His negligence in not checking the gun, then pointing it at his daughter and trying to let the hammer down (I think he just pulled the trigger), caused the death of a small child. it seems like people thought that it was unbelievable, horrible and nothing but a tragic accident. Absolutely….. And this was likely from a very experienced hunter and person who had been around guns for 25 or 30 years. Most of those same people want to hang Alec Baldwin for…. not checking the gun, pointing it at someone else……. And this from a guy who probably knows nothing about guns and trusted another person who was supposed to be an expert they said it was empty. Apparently if you’re you are very experienced with firearms but related to the person you killed by doing almost exactly the same thing, it is acceptable, even if it is a small child. Hypocrisy? I am not claiming that everybody feels that way. I just find it odd that some people think that one situation is a horrible tragedy and there is no need for further action. The same person will turn around in another horrible tragedy and be adamant that somebody needs life in prison for the other similar situation.

A few weeks ago, some posters said that CH has some horses over there, and they do. One thing they do well with their athleticism, is getting to the edge on designed runs and screen passes and they gashed Vidor pretty much all night getting their players in space. Their young QB is not accurate throwing especially on the run, so if he drop backs and his first read isn't there he's taking off. I sure hope LCM can pull it off and wouldn't be surprised if they do. But CH just beat a really good Kilgore team, it's gonna be a barn burner regardless!

Silsbee is a great team but lets not get to far ahead, Bush, Adams or McCain isn't walking through that door next Tuesday, And even if they did I don't think any of them would be the best player on the court honestly. But that's Okay, like another poster stated, the main thing for Silsbee is to get better each week and compete for a 4A title. I do think it will be a very competitive game, and I love that we have two top ranked teams in the State right here in SETX. Here's to an injury free and successful season for both teams

Dad gum it… we already decided this about halfway through the season. It is no longer called the Blue D or whatever, it is called the Stampede Defense from here on out. We even cleared it with @powerlifter it was his idea to begin with and he is the ultimate West Orange insider. I even think @Mr. Buddy Garrity can back me up on this one, it shall be known as the WOS Stampede Defense. Since y’all dropped the ‘Chain Gang’ nickname, Vidor took it over we have the Chain Gang Offense now.

A buck seventy and moving people around like that would be illegal… I think it would break the law of physics lol. Why has Vidor had an outstanding defense the last few seasons, there’s a big part of it right there in the middle. I’ve been lucky enough to be involved with Jordan in sports since he was a little kid. He used to never really know how big and strong he was but he eventually figured it out. I’m going to miss watching that kid play, hopefully he gets a chance to continue his athletic journey somewhere. He deserves a shot, no doubt about it. 🏴‍☠️

Silsbee just needs to worry about being the best 4A team, nothing more. I'm sure we'll eventually take a few lumps before district. Really wish we were getting Madison first tomorrow with fresh legs and give them a good slap. That Metroplex arrogance would be off the charts if they send a 3A school down here and they win.

Hope so. Took a look at some of the Chapel Hill highlights. Look like a tough team to defend. #1 looks really quick and their wideouts have big play potential, especially when they get them in space. The quarterback is big and fast, not all that accurate but he makes the short easy throws and then goes deep from time to time utilizing their speed. He also a good scrambler once he sees open field, can chew up yards in a hurry. On the defensive side to be average. They play like several other East Texas teams with a high profile offense who looks to strike quick and out score their opponents

I noticed nobody in this thread has mentioned he made The Big 12 All-Academic team. I wonder why?

Game was a waste of time really, but you can't always help who you play in tournaments. I guess it helps a little when you consider we got another game coming up soon.

No doubt a healthy Vidor team plays Kilgore... not sure if they get past them. Somewhere in the multiverse LCM v Vidor @ Provost Umphrey Stadium is happening with 15K+ in attendance. It would be a battle.

Back in Sept/Oct this wasn't the case, but if a healthy Vidor team got a healthy LCM team today, it would definitely be interesting...but that's neither here nor there....I want to see these Bears keep rolling with a win over Chapel Hill tomorrow night!

I can't tell you how many times watching the first few plays of a game with Vidor's first series on defense and they try to block him one on one and he's driving kids 5-7 yards trying to put them back on the bus.😂

That state championship game performance may be the best singular HS game I’ve seen an area player play. And on the biggest of stages. That, along with Braelon’s game against Yates are two that are unforgettable for me.

This may or may not be interesting to some people. I thought about this when talking about incidents in Orange County and Port Arthur. It is about police jurisdiction in Texas. Neither the Texas Penal Code nor the Code of Criminal Procedures (CCP) (which lists the authority to arrest) distinguishes between on and off duty peace officers. It states in what situations a peace officer has the authority to make an arrest but makes no other distinction. That is why people often say that Texas peace officers are on duty 24 hours a day. The law is not stated in those words but the Texas law does not note any kind of difference. The authority to make an arrest by a Texas peace officer is continuous. The CCP under authority to arrest without a warrant (Chapter 14) extends to outside the officer’s jurisdiction except class C traffic charges (basic citations like speeding, running stop sign , etc.) which authority is only “if the offense is committed in the county or counties in which the municipality employing the peace officer is located”. So the CCP gives the authority to arrest as anywhere except for traffic citations which is limited to anywhere in the county that the officer works. Port Arthur has jurisdiction then for traffic citations anywhere in Jefferson or Orange County. If a citation (or arrest) is made in those situations, the officer who is outside of his city has to issue the citation to the proper county precinct. For example a Port Arthur officer can issue a traffic citation in Bridge City but has to issue it in the jurisdiction of the Orange County Justice of the Peace for that precinct. An even further distance example is for instance if a Port Arthur officer was driving through Little Cypress to speak with a witness about something and saw somebody run a stop sign. The officer has the authority to issue a citation to that person or even make an arrest and bring the person to the Orange County jail. The CCP also says that if a business serves the public it “may not prohibit or otherwise restrict a peace officer or special investigator from carrying on the establishment's premises a weapon that the peace officer or special investigator is otherwise authorized to carry, regardless of whether the peace officer or special investigator (a special investigator under Texas law is a federal agent such as FBI, DEA, etc.) is engaged in the actual discharge of the officer's or investigator's duties while carrying the weapon”. Note that it is regardless if the officer is engaged to an actual discharge of duty. That is basically saying off duty. The NFL a few years ago made a rule that firearms were prohibited in their stadiums by anyone except for an on duty police officer. But…. that does not apply in Texas as officers have 24 hour arrest authority anywhere in the state and that specific law that I quoted above which says it is against the law to stop them from entering. So off duty Texas peace officers can watch Dallas Cowboys or Houston Texans football games while carrying their off-duty handgun. To my knowledge that is the only NFL stadiums in the country where a police officers can carry their weapons off duty. The stadiums have a special point of entry at one of the entrance gates where on duty officers hired to work the event check the credentials of the off duty officer and note where the officer will be sitting. I have also done that at Minute Maid stadium for MLB. So….. in Texas pretty much a cop is a cop no matter when or where. Game wardens, city police, county sheriffs and deputies, constables and deputies, school district police, DA investigator, fire department arson investigators, etc., are all listed as Peace Officers and even though they are hired to do a specific job, they have overall police powers. It is not that way in all states which sometimes distinguish between on and off duty, jurisdiction and what laws they can enforce. In Texas as an example a Texas game warden can make a traffic stop just as if he was a city police officer or a DPS trooper and make an arrest for DWI. City officer can likewise go into an alcohol licensed premises and enforce Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission laws just as if he was state TABC agent. In fact I was inspecting a bar one time and the bartender got in my way and told me to stop. He said that I did not have the authority to make the inspection since I was not a TABC agent. I explained the law to him and said I was not going to interfere with his business but I was going to make my inspection. Twice more he interfered with my inspection so I arrested him on the spot. TABC suspended the bar’s alcohol license for 14 days (think of the money they lost) and the bartender received 14 days in the county jail for the interference. Interesting? Not interesting? I do not always agree with the laws just as much as anyone else but I think the way that it functions is interesting.

Lol, heard that song a few to many times. Vividly remember first time at YellowJacket stadium. They started on the field & it probably took 2-3 minutes for all of them to get on the field. About 100 I’d guess. Vidor had 26 as I remember. 😂😰😰😂

No there are others including myself. He had lots of issues at the premiere or one of the premiere schools in Texas. Then you had the long recruiting of him and his decision. He may end up as the greatest running back in the NFL, and i hope he does well, BUT there is a lot of smoke with this young man. I thought he and the Demas wide receiver at A M from Forest Brook or Tomball or footwork king had common attributes. Great athletes not great team players, who were given tremendous value too early that went to their psychological profile. There are so many great athletes at d-1 college ( let alone the NFL which is what some in social media were guaranteeing about both) work ethic usually comes into play and I believe from what I’ve seen, read and heard from their coaches, that is their question mark, work ethic on and off the field.

Is this a movement that was started by people of color in WOS who legitimately find it offensive? If so, then call it the blue link defense. Was it started by white liberals from other cities who feel the need to represent "simple country folks" that "just don't know any better?" If that's the case, leave it alone. It sure seems like far too often these "controversies" are created by people who don't have any skin in the game or a dog in the fight.

I know he was the head football coach, lost to Longview, I was at that game. But when i coached track I met him and was amazed at how many athletes were out for track which showed me he has the ability to attract athletes to sports which helps. I am an old school coach who grew up where everyone ran track, no questions, but currently, track (the most important football offseason workout) is one of the least participated in sport because 1) it is difficult 2) it takes gonads to have to race at track meets and NOT win. Only one winner and todays athletes will get their feelings hurt and rather not run than to get a trophy. I thought upon seeing the great turnout in track that he would also be successful in any sport as the head. The great football coaches are successful at other sports and also in the classroom. I have coached withy a lot of coaches who brag," I ain't worth a dang in the classroom, but boy I can coach football." WRONG, if your character is that weak that you abuse your role as a teacher you are not a good coach. The best coaches i have worked with in 3 and a half decades were also quality teachers.

You don’t see his likes very often. There’s no doubt in my mind prior to teams playing Vidor, the first thing discussed by the opposing Coaches is, “How do we block the Nose Guard?”

They do throw some, but prefer the run. If we stop the run and control the pass I’m hoping it’ll be the recipe for success. I’m not sure he can win a game with his arm, but he certainly can with his legs.
