    Memorial Weekend

When I went to Saudi they told us that most would not come back. Went to an East coast base before flying out and had a guy from my shop who had cross-trained over into NBC (nuclear-biological-chemical). He checked out all the stuff my base had given me and 90% was shelved and on his “do not issue” list. Thankfully, Sadam wasn’t as capable as we thought. All that to say is I can’t imagine being 18, on a ship and prepping to land on a beach. You absolutely know what is about to happen because that is what you’ve been training for. Yet those guys did it, many giving the ultimate sacrifice, to afford us the opportunity to be a free country. God bless our military, God bless those who have sacrificed everything and God bless those families who have received that notification their loved one will never be coming home. God bless America!

  3. Buckner is a good dude and has a lot of respect around here. He will do great wherever he goes. Wins do matter when it’s your job. 9 wins in the last 6 years don’t get the job done. I’d be more understanding if they had every kid playing that should be playing and the talent just isn’t there, but that’s not the case here. Every year there are 8+ kids roaming the halls at WISD that don’t play, and I think that’s the AD’s and his coaches job is to connect with those kids and get them to try it out. Accountability sucks when you’re held to it, and it seems that’s what the new superintendent is doing, holding employees accountable. You can continue to point fingers and word vomit your hearsay, but it boils down to getting the job done on all fronts, not just one or two sports.

  4. In this case we are talking about an AD who had been there six years and had not won more than three games in a single season, so in those cases where you have a AD who has been at a place 5+ years and had not won its going to be much more common for the supt to want to make a change.....the only thing that really makes this difficult IMO is the timing...

  7. Get brought into a room at 18-19 years old and be told, “Make sure your affairs are in order, get your will written out, make your last phone call and load up on this bus!”, and you’ll always appreciate Memorial Day.

  8. It's quite common for administration to bring in their own people at any school.....when you consider the previous HC was there six seasons and hadn't had success it can't be that big a surprise to anyone that the new regime wants to give it a go with people they hire....its just the nature of the business

    Memorial Weekend

I hope all of us enjoy the weekend, but take a few minutes to remember the brave men & women who gave their lives for this country. Thank God for giving us people like them.

  10. I'm glad they are able to have it this year. Fun way for many of these athletes to finish their career.

  13. Until the population down here realizes how far they are behind they'll never really grasp what it takes to win on that level. We don't have a lot of state champions down here so more often than not the local staffs are tasked with "building it on the current pad". All those schools you pointed out can just look to one of their neighbors and see how it's done, not to mention compete on a regular basis and get better against them. It's one thing to do it at the well-to-do districts like the ones you named but it's even more impressive to do it at schools like Desoto, Cedar Hill and Duncanville which are places 99% of the population in BH would never even consider living. Everybody is bought in everywhere up there. I have a good buddy who played on Plano's title team in '94 and has a son about to attend Plano East. He said other than North Shore and Katy that they don't even consider anybody else out of the Houston area a real factor. He said the majority of the teams in the area know that if they can win their district that they can probably win a state title which he had me agreeing with at the end of the conversation. The two best districts down here are the Katy and Cy-Fair ISDs and you can't really make that statement about either of those.

  15. The main problem with all of this is Warren opening this late. Even if there was a change in a "reasonable" time table it was going to be hard to find someone with a proven track record that would want to come in and try to get something going but with it now being June 1st good luck. Whoever ends up getting there, the community AND admin needs to understand realistic expectations and what Warren in is.

  16. In a small ISD the AD/HFC reports directly to the supt....why wouldn't a new supt want to bring in their own people..athletics is a big deal in small towns...they are going to want to ride w/someone they hired in most cases....

  17. Buna and Woodville will certainly be contenders in the region next season. Buna will be losing their ace and best hitter, but has some good, younger arms behind him. Woodville appeared to have had an extremely talented Malakoff team beat in game 3, but had an error in the 7th? Cameron is losing nobody. Teams like Malakoff and Troy will be taking heavy hits to graduation. Central Heights will also be drastically improved in 2022.

  19. Uncle Pig would be correct. The student that was supposed to have gotten 22 pops only got 4. 3 of those were for F bombs. The coach who supposedly gave him 19 only gave him 1 and it was for an F bomb. Multiple adults and students have verified. Some people just ignore the truth.

  20. C E King might have nicest facility in East Houston. Metroplex is a whole different animal. You can’t tell people that in southeast Texas. Most live in a bubble.

  24. The word is that Chambers County zoned those parcels for multi building residential, so they wanted apartments in that location. If you want to attract people to your area then you better have affordable housing for the people that can't afford a 300k tract home. Not all apartments are section 8 or low income, so that is a little bit of a mischaracterization. If you're not willing to make housing affordable, then you can only coach up the current talent base so much. Also, to think that BHISD bought those parcels to lessen traffic congestion is a little ridiculous.

  26. Totally unverifiable post, just information that was relayed by a football guy that lives in the BH district: Word in the back room is that TW left mainly because of the superintendent. Supt. would come into the office and question TW about some of the coaching decisions he was making. Undoubtedly the supt. used to coach in his pre-administrative days? The son left this past season after a discussion with the supt. that included something along the lines of "This isn't Dallas, you're not winning down here without athletes" from KW. Heard the Westerbergs were a little surprised with the personnel and the nonchalant attitude from the kids and parents towards winning in BH. Not sure exactly what part of the season/offseason it was but he gave an example of kids pulling into the parking lot for Saturday practice/workouts with boats hooked up to their trucks like, "We just have to hurry and get through this so we can go do X and not really focusing on the work that needed to be put in." Supposedly there are two things that happened that really rubbed TW the wrong way more than the supt.'s arrogance and questioning of his coaching. One was the hair situation that happened at BH. BH had several transfers lined up at the skill positions for the upcoming season and all pulled out after the news. Second, there was supposedly some school meeting where the supt. informed the staff that the district bought some land around I-10 and HWY 99 to keep an apartment complex that would've been zoned to BH from being built. Comment was along the lines of "We don't need that in our district". Sounds like the supt. just wore TW out and TW not really having to deal with it just chose to leave. Was also told the supt. has already reached out to Surratt who said he was good. The one sentiment I didn't get was that this was some sudden decision TW made, he had been on the fence for a while. I commented earlier about what TW would tell other coaches who asked him for advice about the BH job and now I think that's even more pertinent. *Unrelated - was told the supt. fired Price because he benched his son his senior year. Dick Olin had a lot to do with Murray ending up in Allen playing for his buddy TW after leaving Lewisville. TWs BASE salary was in the $160k range but had escalators pertaining to other sports that could've taken his salary to the $180k range.
