We been seeing discussions on how throughout this area of Montgomery, Liberty and San Jacinto counties how this area has been growing.  From a football perspective does this help or harm the schools in the area getting placed in districts where the higher the enrollment gets you placed in a district where you can't compete or can it help to where to can get quality players out of a quanity of students and have to make do with whatever comes with it.  Thoughts?

All depend on what kind of "growth" it is.

No one wants the Cleveland "growth".

33 straight losses. Lost 54-6 this year to Splendora, who's a bad 5A-D2 team in the same boat they are. Their closest game in the last 2 years was a 21-0 loss to West Fork, who's only getting better. Cleveland may not win another game for a decade. I'm not sure how far down they'd have to schedule to get a win in that area. Tarkington would've been an interesting matchuphis year. Coldspring maybe? I'm pretty sure Coldspring beats them. Maybe 3A-D2 New Waverly, a 2 or 3-win 3A-D2 team? I honestly don't know.

Coldspring has not grown any. Shepherd will drop back to 3A at the next alignment after the current Senior and Junior class graduate. Tarkington has also lost numbers. Cleveland has lost numbers as well. Splendora is the only one growing at the moment.

Sad that a 6A school has to look for down 3A schools to seek a win.

It's natural for all areas north and east of 99 to see crazy growth.  I wanna say there are at least 2 subdivisions being build east of 59 on 99.  But again, that specific kind of growth is the key.  All I know is, the greater Cleveland area won't be competitive for the forseeable future

We know why they won't schudule us... Pretty obvious giving the history of us vs. them.

We’ve had this discussion before.  ‘Unwanted growth’ to me is still the craziest thing that I’ve ever heard.

Are you saying all growth is a good thing?

If Silsbee started growing just like Lumberton was predicted to grow, I’m sure those local city officials would be happy for starters.  And I repeat.  We’ve discussed this topic before.  And I was just as baffled back then as I am now…

Seems I’m off topic.  I should keep it football.  With that being said, it’s not unheard of where football is played well by Latino kids.  Like I’ve said before, communities will need to do a better job of sparking football interest really early with the kids.  And Coaches will need to come up with more innovative ways to coach these new kids.  It’s definitely possible if many are willing to step outside their normal coaching routine.

Lumberton growth is nothing like Cleveland growth. If you can't see or understand that, then I am wasting my time.

As sports go, it’s pretty simple. You have a school that went from a 4A school to a 6A school in a short amount of time with basically 100% of their growth being kids with zero background/interest in any sports besides soccer. So the talent pool is still small school 4A while their opponents are all Houston 6A. On top of that, the kids that ARE good at football/basketball/whatever are leaving for surrounding districts. What all-district quality player with a choice is going to stay and lose 33 straight games, especially when you factor in the extreme overcrowding in the classrooms as well. It’s an unprecedented situation with no remedy in sight.

What’s the real reason they are leaving for surrounding districts?  Also, just inquiring.  Is the Cleveland Soccer programs better since this growth?

More students, more state funding, more resources…..  better chance of bonds getting passed meaning possibly another building with more classrooms getting built?

Diboll has a large Hispanic population in school system, over 50% and large part of team are Hispanic year over year and they’ve remain competitive for most part, down years past couple seasons but they’ll be back. Just glance at the roster

I wouldn’t send my kid to a high school with 3500 kids that was built for 1000 kids. Or to one where the academic rating was a D. Or to one where 90% of the students spoke a language other than English as a first language. And that’s before you ever factor in the athletics. If your kid was a talented basketball or football player would you leave him in Cleveland to get blown out every game? To play with bad 4A talent against Houston area 6A squads? There was a guy on here who was a principal in Cleveland a couple years back. His daughter was a stud basketball player. She went to Huffman. Why do you think that was?
