There aren’t many good one left.  Congrats to Ashly on the new job, but the local youth will miss him.

Ashly reported on everything from High School to little league he will be missed from that aspect but on top of that he is a world class human being and in my experience that's rare in the media world

I’ll be very sad to see him go. Few people dedicate themselves so well to something for so long, and make it their own. You can tell he loves the local athletes, and he is easily the biggest name in sports journalism in SETX. It will be weird not having him doing the coverage. Best of luck to Ashly!

Ashly is good people...tough to make a good living doing local news, tough to make a good living writing for the local newspaper, nearly impossible to make a good living covering local sports online..in the end everyone suffers because there's no one left to cover local sports properly

Happy for him and the students at Hardin-Jefferson ISD will benefit greatly from him being there

So basically, he is doing the same thing that Jackie Semien is doing.  Same position she took a few years ago with Beaumont ISD.  Congrats, Ashley, my guy!

and what Kelsey Johnson from KBMT is doing at Silsbee and Mike Canizales from KBMT is doing at Hamshire-Fannett.

Thanks everyone! Looking forward to the next chapter and spending more time with my family, I'll still be around a posting things on sports independently for fun. No deadlines lol. I'm just a Has Been now!

Seriously though, local HS sports coverage in our area will suffer due to losing your coverage. We all truly appreciate the dedication you've shown over the years and we are excited for this new opportunity for you. Hopefully the next gen is ready to step up and grab the torch. If this site has taught me one thing in the past year or so, its' this, you don't know what you've got til it's gone.

Exactly...but I will say I didn't shed one tear when Bob West the former sports writer of the Port Arthur News retired Bob treated myself and my friends horribly.. once is a coincidence a bad day at the office, when it happens multiple times its a pattern and that happened on more than one occasion including one time where he yelled at me over the phone for my "horrible penmanship" while my wife was sitting there listening dumbfounded as to why I didn't hang up on him...I turned to her and said I was always taught to be respectful even though they're not to you and that's the last time I ever talked to or heard from Bob West again.

Someone correct me if I'm out of line. But I guess the channel 6 guys are ok with being mediocre

Channel 6 only has Freidman. He has been by himself since Heather left a year or so ago. Also, they only do sports reports a few days a week. Not every night.

She'll be missed for sure.

409sports just became ZEROsports. Maybe they get Kerry Cooper back in the game?

Coverage in the area is going down rapidly.

Ashly told me his job just got posted. Not sure about Saphire's.

I'm very curious to see who is hired at KBMT.

    • We'll see. I don't trust us.
    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
