There are plenty of reasons that taunting, personal fouls, excessive celebrating, etc get penalized in organized games.  Basic sportsmanship, the games "getting out of hand" leading to fights, and the list goes on.   From what I've seen, 7-on-7 games tend to get far, far away from the spirit of the game-to see who can score more points.  It turns into a trash-talking, posturing, exhibition of "Talent" that will hopefully lead to getting noticed by a scout and NIL money... not getting better at the game.

Like I said, I'd rather sit in a gym all afternoon and watch "Big Baller Brand" wannabees act the same way.... at least I'd be indoors.

This type of behavior does happen in less organized 7on7.....although it does happen in state qualifiers for 7on7 etc its much, much less common and is usually penalized from what I've seen over the years

Probably the fact that they were also searching for a new supt. weighed real heavy in the decision to go with an interim. Maybe they can find a new supt. before long and focus on new A/D HFB coach. Until then sounds like Coach McDonald will do a good job.

Absolutely, you dont want to have no supt and no AD at the same time....I think there's a good chance McDonald gets the job full-time but I do think the new supt should be involved heavily in that decision..its not fair to the new supt or McDonald that they get forced on each other

The play-by-play and color guy on NFHS are killing me. Their discussion concerning FF’s move up to 5A being “more difficult and interesting…” is ignorant and farcical.

They will dominate exactly the same. Only now their district opponents will be more competitive…but that only makes you better.

They will still go get the best players in South Dallas if not the Metroplex at large.

If they jumped directly to 6A…what’s the difference? 5A and 6A are essentially equivalent…in basketball anyways.

End of rant. Sorry. It was just too much to listen these two professionals try to twist themselves into pretzels to avoid the elephant in the room.

I loved the Silsbee Tiger’s fight. They never back down. They never make excuses.

I understand the politics that spawned this and the legal inability of UIL to effectively mitigate its snowball effect. But on the whole…it’s sad to see Texas Basketball head in this direction.

Craig Way and Ish are exactly right...FF is not going to just roll through 5A, yes they beat the 5A state champs Lancaster by a whole point....Lancaster probably should have lost the semifinal and they were in a dogfight in the regional final.....so its not like Lancaster destroyed all of 5A either...they beat El Paso Chapin by 2...they lost to 6A Lake Travis by 21....

Will they be very good?? Yes.....but 5A is much, much different than 4A its a real grind to go deep because you are playing people that can beat you pretty consistently after the first round or two

This is huge. The difference in Crosby when he was there was immediate and obvious. Dayton is going to take a massive step forward and make that district a lot more interesting.

One question: Lake Worth was 10-3 the season before he showed up, with a 6-5 (first round playoff exit) in his one season there. Obviously, a season is just one season, but that’s a significant step back from the year earlier. Any thought or inside info on that year? Graduated a lot of talent? Totally new system?

A few things from Lake Worth

    1) their top returning player who was the district MVP transferred out during the summer (was ruled ineligible and didnt play his senior year)

    2) Prieto was hired the Friday before Memorial Day, tough to really implement things getting hired that late
