  1. You can't win without talent.. or.. a weak schedule. But playoff wins won't happen without players. Newton and WOS both had coaches of 10+ years previously. We're familiar with how that went. Still.. it has been argued on this very site by me that even those schools had excessive amounts of talent. Good players usually make coaches look good. Not to say that their coaches weren't good. I just believe that those same coaches couldn't have gone just anyway and had similar success. Having said that. I'm still 100% confident that a team will not reach any sort of potential by shuffling head coaches through like underwear. There has to be a level of consistency. Even if it's for just 4-5 years.
  2. That's part of the reason that schools that are bad.. will continue to be bad. Consistency is key. And admitting reality is also key. When you don't have the horses, you don't have the horses. Still gotta leave the head guy alone so they can at least try to change a culture. How's that even possible if the 7th graders have 2/3/4/5 different systems before they reach senior year? It's worse when you actually get someone that would like to stay and build. That's rare enough for small schools. But.. I'm perfectly aware of how things work. Instant gratification mentality.
  3. I would have to say they're the most notorious on the forum.. any classification. Definitely not because of the actual football team. Certainly because some fans (not all) have no idea when to stop bragging about details that aren't worth bragging about to begin with. For example: Beating Kountze.. It's yet to be determined whether or not that was a win worth the hype it's getting. Yes, they went 7-4 LAST YEAR and made a playoff spot in a bigger classification. HD didn't play them last year. What if they go 0-10 or 1-9 this year? Still a brag worthy win? Not in my opinion. Just say good game and that you're happy/proud of the team. We don't need the extra bullcrap about how big of a school they are and your overall record against them or anyone else. Jeez. That's why people are still cracking "4 horsemen" jokes several years after that statement was made. It's almost not fun anymore..... Almost.
  4. History shows us that there is rarely a wrong time to depart from this school. It seems to be a "let me get a year or 2 of HFC on the resume" and leave. The community usually never allows for more than that anyway.
  5. Not to state the obvious, but that's what they do. Being historically a little bit better than the historically worst football programs in the state of Texas... then bragging about it. Kountze, Hardin, West Hardin, Sabine Pass, High Island, Colmesneil, Warren... I don't think there's 10 total playoff wins from that group.
  6. Enrollment usually means a lot. Keep in mind that many schools in SeTx have much fewer kids in athletics than schools with much smaller high school enrollments in other parts of the state. Which is why I don't put a lot of stock in it sometimes. It's about comparable levels of talent per the number of kids PLAYING.
  7. Can't say I disagree. Don't they have HD on the schedule? I'm not yet convinced Hardin loses that one.. but they better get this one either way. Coincidentally, I think the former head coach made a decent decision with the departure.
  8. I watched a little bit of the Anahuac/Newton game Friday. Ana's QB is a freshman? I kinda like the kid. That said.. freshmen will freshmen sometimes. I still choose Anahuac.
  9. 7 names..🤔.. 7 Horsemen?!! STATE CHAMPS!
  10. I bet those odds are out of this world.
  11. They definitely had some above average seasons. Overall I believe there were more poor or average seasons than there were good. Doesn't seem to justify keeping the school open if enrollment was falling off like I was told. They lost to Hull Daisetta the last season they had. So... Not sure that staying a separate school would have been the thing to do.
  12. It's apparent that you 100% missed the point. Yes.. there are good programs in SeTx that make deep runs often. There are also teams that win most of their regular season games and exit before round 3. If you go 8-2 and lose first round.. you aren't as good as you think. So. Back to the question. What in SFA's playing history says that they were good? I don't care about winning seasons. District championships? Playoff wins? etc..
  13. As with everything.. "Good" is relative. Even if they were at times locally good, it doesn't mean they were good. I'm seriously not familiar. What was their history of success that you're obviously referring to? Remember.. schools all over the state (especially SeTx) win 8/9/10 games in a year and bounce early.
  14. Liberty beat Orangefield. No idea of the scores.
  15. I’m not an expert for there or any other school. I just have close friends in the profession everywhere. Even still.. I would never claim to know what is fact on a situation I wasn’t involved with. Cry louder? Yeah.. ok. You’re seemingly butthurt about it. Ex player? Parent? Sounds to me like he dodged an enormous bullet by getting out of there. No matter the details as to how.
  16. Yet, there you go. Taking what "they" say as the gospel truth. Actually, the only thing that's fact is that you seemingly don't know any of the details to which his contract ended. Since that's the case, it'd probably be wise to not act as if you do.
  17. Sometimes you gotta be careful you have correct information based on what "they" say.
  18. If HD takes your advice.. the number of games they win/lose will not be affected much if any. It’s dependent on numbers and talent. Or lack there of. My money is on a massive pillow fight for the district with first round exits across the board.
  19. If even a single #4 seed beats a #1 seed then it’s justified.. and it happens every year in every sport. Realistically, the 4 shouldn’t beat a 1 unless the 4 is in a good district or the 1 is in a trash one.
  20. I have no problem with 4 teams going. I have a problem with small districts. There are several circumstances of #4 seeds making runs in the playoffs. That alone justifies it. By the way.. record has nothing to do with it. Winning 8/9/10 isn’t always difficult with many of the trash rotten districts in this SeTx coverage area. Don’t be offended.. if there were more schools making it past area it wouldn’t be the case.
  21. That wouldn’t be bad. At least being able to practice when it’s raining would help tremendously.
  22. Well an indoor facility is a different conversation now isn’t it? How many SeTx schools have access to something other than walking through situations in the gym? Other than an actual indoor practice facility, schools without turf are held hostage to the elements. Even practice fields.
  23. The comparison of high schools having grass fields to professional teams having grass fields is beyond absurd. Pro teams have seemingly limitless money needed to maintain said field. And.. nobody uses the field except the team on game day. Do pro teams practice on the game field? No. High schools don’t have that luxury. I prefer a PROPERLY MAINTAINED grass field over turf, but SeTx schools can’t do that. Between weather and money (lack of) turf is the way to go down here. Or.. keep your, “It was good enough for grandpa so it’s good enough now” mentality and keep losing to out of area teams that can actually practice the day after a storm. No skin off my back.
  24. I have no doubt that intense work wasn’t put in. That’s true with every professional athlete. There are tons of huge guys that didn’t make it because of that very fact. Not hate whatsoever. You also can’t deny that had he been 6’1 with that same work ethic, Ozen doesn’t win it that year. Don’t misconstrue my point.. the player (including his size) that he turned into was an integral part.
  25. Did I say he did it by himself? I’m just pointing out the obvious that it’s definitely beneficial having a future pro athlete. He didn’t win it by himself.. but they probably don’t win it without him either.
