  1. I can't let this one go: When people say, "congrats, but that team was terrible" to HD.. it is met with, "Why can't you just say congrats and nothing else?" It would appear that being hypocritical goes ignored for HD fans.
  2. This is exactly why I would be careful to brag about this win just yet.. bigger school or not. Playoff team last year or not.
  3. Actually.. pal.. you couldn't be further from your predictive and overused description of me. How very typical of you, however, to throw the "HD must've beat you in the past" card every time someone mentions the fact that a majority of HD's wins (even historically) are against the bottom quarter of all of football. No worries.. I'm not upset or anything. As that's the typical response of the die hard HD posters of this site. I did congratulate HD on the win. How about you try congratulating the team on the win without mentioning school size, player size, overall record, previous year's success/failure, 79 state championship, the names of your "studs", etc... I've been on this site for a while and I've yet to see that. Still patiently waiting.
  4. Certainly. To be clear, I'm not implying that Neece is doing anything other that what HE feels is the best thing to do to make HIS team successful. Good coaches know what they have and make adjustments to their strengths. I'm simply stating that it's likely, now that he has another strong offensive mind on staff and a talented young passing quarterback, that there's been responsibilities delegated to said parties in some form or fashion. I'm not taking credit of any sort away from the head coach. Just that certain parts of the offensive strategy may have adjusted in part to another coach.. even if Neece himself is calling plays.
  5. Then perhaps Coach Barrier is influencing the play calling a little.
  6. Burkeville fans. In fact.. Burkeville has a state title more recent than HD’s last playoff win. It’s beyond time to move on.
  7. I gotcha. Well.. was it a typically called game for Neece compared to his usual play calling habits? It seems that the young QB slung it around a little. That par?
  8. Of course I'm aware of that. I guess what I mean is... How many times has Neece been a head coach where a former Head Coach comes in as an assistant with a son that starts as the varsity quarterback? I'll add that I've heard that Barrier has a reputation of being pretty well versed in the area. I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of arrangement was made before the hire about Barrier having a role somewhat.
  9. Don't underestimate the level of (lack of) talent that they'll see on the "varsity" level in district. Some of the varsity teams in that district won't be a whole lot different than the JV of a slightly bigger school.
  10. I'm sure nobody in the history of ever, has brought their own starting quarterback.
  11. If I were betting.. I'd choose the home team in this one.
  12. I'm already 0-1 on what I originally thought.. I figured they'd beat Warren but I guess they're worse off than expected. I'll give this week a coinflip.. but if I had to bet, I'd probably choose Evadale in a close one. That Warren loss destroyed any confidence I had in picking the Hornets. And if Evadale wins then I'd probably think Tarkington gets them in district.. hence closing any hope in a district win. Didn't they beat Kville last year? I don't see that happening again. And depending on who they have after Anahuac, WV, EC, and OF.. they may be a little beat up. Before the season I would've said they get 4 wins. Warren, Eva, HD, and probably Tark. Now... I'm saying I honestly don't know. It's early to predict after just one game but I'd bet they beat HD and nobody else. This week is an important game IMO. This entire post is opinion.. I hope for their sake that I'm wrong.
  13. You can't win without talent.. or.. a weak schedule. But playoff wins won't happen without players. Newton and WOS both had coaches of 10+ years previously. We're familiar with how that went. Still.. it has been argued on this very site by me that even those schools had excessive amounts of talent. Good players usually make coaches look good. Not to say that their coaches weren't good. I just believe that those same coaches couldn't have gone just anyway and had similar success. Having said that. I'm still 100% confident that a team will not reach any sort of potential by shuffling head coaches through like underwear. There has to be a level of consistency. Even if it's for just 4-5 years.
  14. That's part of the reason that schools that are bad.. will continue to be bad. Consistency is key. And admitting reality is also key. When you don't have the horses, you don't have the horses. Still gotta leave the head guy alone so they can at least try to change a culture. How's that even possible if the 7th graders have 2/3/4/5 different systems before they reach senior year? It's worse when you actually get someone that would like to stay and build. That's rare enough for small schools. But.. I'm perfectly aware of how things work. Instant gratification mentality.
  15. I would have to say they're the most notorious on the forum.. any classification. Definitely not because of the actual football team. Certainly because some fans (not all) have no idea when to stop bragging about details that aren't worth bragging about to begin with. For example: Beating Kountze.. It's yet to be determined whether or not that was a win worth the hype it's getting. Yes, they went 7-4 LAST YEAR and made a playoff spot in a bigger classification. HD didn't play them last year. What if they go 0-10 or 1-9 this year? Still a brag worthy win? Not in my opinion. Just say good game and that you're happy/proud of the team. We don't need the extra bullcrap about how big of a school they are and your overall record against them or anyone else. Jeez. That's why people are still cracking "4 horsemen" jokes several years after that statement was made. It's almost not fun anymore..... Almost.
  16. History shows us that there is rarely a wrong time to depart from this school. It seems to be a "let me get a year or 2 of HFC on the resume" and leave. The community usually never allows for more than that anyway.
  17. Not to state the obvious, but that's what they do. Being historically a little bit better than the historically worst football programs in the state of Texas... then bragging about it. Kountze, Hardin, West Hardin, Sabine Pass, High Island, Colmesneil, Warren... I don't think there's 10 total playoff wins from that group.
  18. Enrollment usually means a lot. Keep in mind that many schools in SeTx have much fewer kids in athletics than schools with much smaller high school enrollments in other parts of the state. Which is why I don't put a lot of stock in it sometimes. It's about comparable levels of talent per the number of kids PLAYING.
  19. Can't say I disagree. Don't they have HD on the schedule? I'm not yet convinced Hardin loses that one.. but they better get this one either way. Coincidentally, I think the former head coach made a decent decision with the departure.
  20. I watched a little bit of the Anahuac/Newton game Friday. Ana's QB is a freshman? I kinda like the kid. That said.. freshmen will freshmen sometimes. I still choose Anahuac.
  21. They definitely had some above average seasons. Overall I believe there were more poor or average seasons than there were good. Doesn't seem to justify keeping the school open if enrollment was falling off like I was told. They lost to Hull Daisetta the last season they had. So... Not sure that staying a separate school would have been the thing to do.
  22. It's apparent that you 100% missed the point. Yes.. there are good programs in SeTx that make deep runs often. There are also teams that win most of their regular season games and exit before round 3. If you go 8-2 and lose first round.. you aren't as good as you think. So. Back to the question. What in SFA's playing history says that they were good? I don't care about winning seasons. District championships? Playoff wins? etc..
  23. As with everything.. "Good" is relative. Even if they were at times locally good, it doesn't mean they were good. I'm seriously not familiar. What was their history of success that you're obviously referring to? Remember.. schools all over the state (especially SeTx) win 8/9/10 games in a year and bounce early.
