  1. I've seen Anahuac play a few times this year. They have some kids that can play for sure. I definitely thought AP would see a couple/few rounds for sure at first impression.. even though I a staunch believer that out of area teams just do better than SeTx in the playoffs (with the exception of a few). Normally round 2 at least is when SeTx meets a nonSeTx school. I'll pick AP but wouldn't be surprised if this game doesn't go as many think.
  2. The age old question... is it better to be fired for cheating or fired for losing. I'm certainly not condoning anything and never will... but... Every single school within the large city areas is trying to attract kids to play for them. Schools openly try to increase enrollment numbers for funding by providing a "better education". I personally think it's different but like I said, they're all doing it in some form or fashion. Even according to UIL's own bylaws you can bring in kids from out of the school's district as long as they wait one calendar year to play varsity athletics. That makes it ok? LOL. .
  3. According to Wikipedia, championship in 01. Finals in 98, 02, and 08. That's respectable on any measure.
  4. I figured it had been a long time if he was still there. I don't follow them much since their talent ran dry.. but he definitely had some quality teams at one time. I won't even pretend to say I know anything about Goodrich basketball but I remember some state titles.
  5. Is Lester King still at Goodrich? That's gotta be quite a run.
  6. It happens. Maybe not more often than not.. but 4s definitely beat 1s. It has always been my argument that even if it happens once, it justifies sending 4 teams... even though most people think it waters it down.
  7. Maybe go the other direction. Try having a whole bunch of 3A schools. Increase the odds of having a winner.
  8. This game is for the 4th playoff spot? So.. it’s possible that the mighty Bobcats lose to West Hardin, Hardin, and miss the playoffs in the same year? Hat trick
  9. Who? Kidding.. No but seriously.. Win some playoff games. That’ll “get respect”.
  10. Coach the game? I'm leaning towards letting random fans from the stands coach the game... but I've thought that way several times before. Any time someone shows displeasure in the coach's strategy, actually.
  11. I wouldn't let mine sleep in the house. Losers lay in the yard.
  12. Yes.. absolutely. Forget the positions that these kids have been practicing possibly for weeks or even all season. Just throw seniors out there all over the field because they've "earned it" by staying in the program. 100% better coaching strategy than those currently behind the whistle. (Disclaimer: I actually have no idea how many seniors are even on the team that don't usually play, if any. Maybe none.)
  13. I wonder if Kountze is still considered an “upset”.. considering how well they’ve done.
  14. I’m sure Birdwell has the wrong kid at quarterback… or isn’t calling the right plays.
  15. I’m glad someone is posting. HD “fans” never say a word when they’re losing.
  16. It makes no difference before school, after school, or the time. Each extra curricular activity must limit students to a maximum of EIGHT HOURS of practice and rehearsal outside the school day per school week. There's also rules for Sundays and holidays.
  17. Here's the way I look at it.. they don't split the divisions for any other sport. The schools at the bottom of 3ADII are competing for the same championship as the schools at the top of 3ADI. That's basketball, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, track, etc.. In my opinion, they should either split the districts for everybody or split them for nobody. That's just my opinion. I understand that enrollment can provide advantage but that's true even if in the exact same classification. There are other things that provide advantage also... Location, industry, # of kids in athletics, average household income, and others.
  18. I personally am about as opposite from a liberal from California can be. However... I agree with some of the things that you're responding to here. It's a fact that Newton was decades removed from a state title until UIl split districts into divisions. That's just a fact. Newton was bowing out to Cameron Yoe about every year until then. The same thing is true about WOS. They couldn't get out of the region until the split. Carthage was stopping them.. or Navasota. Back to Newton. Don't pretend there's any competition for them until fairly deep into the playoffs. That said.. nobody at Newton can help what UIL does and they should definitely be commended for any success. The same is true with anyone.
  19. You aren't taking into account the fact that the other teams return kids and possibly even improve. Every year. You can look at the comparable results with both Silsbee and HF and tell that they are pretty stinkin good. I personally watched Jasper play and know that they're also loaded with talented, athletic kids. Those are not bad losses for WOS.. I don't care how many returners they have. Calm down. The level of drama coming out of WOS over a few losses to some good teams makes me think that there isn't enough mental fortitude in the community to win any tough playoff games anyway. Cry me a river. The school has more state titles than most SeTx schools will ever have and are still competitive in what is an obvious down year. Give the guy some time before putting a for sale sign in the yard.
  20. Unfortunately.. nobody cares about academic shortfalls in comparison. That's why coaches get away with yelling/cussing at kids but teachers don't. That's why coaches get away with all sorts of physical punishment for behavior and/or missing a practice but teachers don't if a kid refuses to do an assignment or skips class. That's why threads get created about complaining to school boards for gripes about a football coach.. but not about a principal or teachers.
  21. It'll be whatever Newton wants it to be.
  22. We've all mostly known that EC is a little down compared to a typical EC team. However, I wouldn't base it off this game alone. Anahuac isn't bad... arguably pretty good. Having said that, EC will be ok. It's hard to think other than EC will do what EC does moving forward. A "down year" every so often won't define the program. They have nice enough facilities, good location, and enough history to always be a threat for some move ins. Anahuac may take a few going forward but both still going to get some. I do predict this EC/Anahuac rivalry will stop being so one sided and produce better games in the future.
