  1. As I argued in the past: It costs a lot of money to maintain a grass field (water, mowing, maintenance, paint, fertilizer, etc.). A turf field is truly a big investment but saves money in other areas.. along with allowing all sports to use without fear of tearing up.. and in most weather conditions (wet). As for draws; nice facilities will bring players, coaches, teachers, parents, fans, playoff games, etc. Is that a guarantee? No. But kids don't transfer to a school with trash facilities because of the facilities or probably any other reason. All that aside, it's a show of faith that you care about your athletic programs and community. As good coaching friend of mine says, "if you don't turf your fields then you're losing money somewhere". And you're 100% correct, the mindset/mentality/culture of most of SeTx is for the most part stuck in the past.
  2. And my argument was specifically for investment purposes. Both financially and in your players/community along with the potential for transfers. Recruiting without recruiting. But as I said.. it was met with the, "what we have is good enough" attitude.
  3. Several years ago when I first became a member of this site.. I argued for the necessity of schools turfing their facilities. It was met with ridicule. Funny how a mindset changes after a few years.
  4. Every team would go undefeated every year.
  5. Just assume that at least 3 starters from every team in the district got an award of some kind. Chances are.. you won't be very far off.
  6. The way that it SHOULD be done is that there are 5 on 1st Team and 5 on 2nd Team.. and your MVP, Off MVP, Def MVP, and Newcomer come from those 10 that are all district. That's how college and profession teams do it.. because a basketball team (that is on the floor) is 5 players. If coaches insist on having more than 10 then there needs to be a 3rd Team All District.. or load up the honorable mentions.. All of this 9 on 1st Team and 11 on 2nd Team and co-this and co-that is literally the epitome of "everyone gets a trophy". It's disgusting to me... just give everyone something and admit that you're scared of your parents.
  7. Historically terrible. Nobody can take losing for very long.
  8. Sometimes what separates decent coaches and great coaches is the ability to take advantage of alignments. Stay when it's beneficial and leave when it's not. Coaching101
  9. Sad beyond sad. Prayers for all involved.
  10. People sometimes don't like hearing/seeing truth. But it's absolutely the truth.. Kountze from Early/mid 2000s would be blowing out not only every team in district, but likely all of 3A. It is what it is.
  11. I'd think that EC is always a "favorite". Especially with the loss of Woodville from the district. What does OF have back?
  12. Um..no offense, my guy.. but. Great games in what? Isn't SP habitually awful? With maybe the exception of a few baseball/softball teams. You're not talking about baseball/softball, surely?
  13. That’s crazy impressive. I gotta ask.. how bad is Sabine Pass to let one kid score 60 and 70 points in consecutive games? Not diminishing the accomplishment..but I think I’m putting 5 players on one before I let them score 71. Just sayin…
  14. Cleveland is much closer to Kingwood.. which has a nice hospital.
  15. Makes sense. But.. things that often make sense aren't the things that happen.
  16. I don't watch the news.. please, enlighten me. You mentioned "can't hospital expansions they desperately need done"..? What does that even mean? There are no healthcare facilities in Liberty?
  17. I'm intrigued.. What are you talking about? What does one have to do with the other? I'm guessing you're from there?
  18. Ages long debate.. Not taking anything away from the Hardin volleyball coaching staff, as what they're doing is obviously successful. However, do coaches create players? Or do players create coaches? Or a mix of both? It's apparent that Hardin's girl volleyball players are much more talented than the ones they play against. And huge from what I hear. How did that come to be? Did the Snells create them out of thin air? Are there transfers helping? Do these kids play basketball and softball? I'm not doubting that something is happening but I would bet that it's a combination of factors.
  19. I don't know. Maybe they work on it all year.. even before the takeoff of club volleyball. Are they not regularly sending kids to the next level? I don't believe that's a recent thing and it proves to me that they have better players.
