  1. well then I'm with you on the other stuff you stated. I don't at all have an issue with a basketball player getting some jump shots in during football, or some easy BP swings, etc. But I don't want basketball players doing box out drills, batters facing live pitching, etc during football, and vice versa on football drills during those seasons. I guess I should've clarified my original post with the caveat that I don't think they should be doing major work in multiple school sports at the same time.
  2. of course not. Kinda got the impression you were for it.
  3. It's common knowledge that this sort of thing happens on ranches, out in the country, etc. I'd be willing to bet that a good number of people who participate in this forum have had to do something similar. That said, she's an absolute moron for putting it in a book, period. The act of killing the dog can be justified, especially for those of us familiar with how life on a ranch/farm works, but publicizing it is inexcusable for someone in her position. I honestly have no clue what she was thinking. 60% percent of the country already doesn't like trump, and now his most likely running mate has a major controversy over killing a dog. Pure stupidity.
  4. There are times when certain things are appropriate, and when they are not. We can agree to disagree on the appropriateness of star baseball players doing contact football drills in the days leading up the baseball playoffs.
  5. are you suggesting that if the football coach runs spring drills then the kids won't play fall ball without supervision? Because if not, this argument has no relevance. One doesn't take the place of the other. one the AD has control of, the other he just tries to.
  6. and I'll concede that this is more realistic. but a good AD can make football the primary focus without messing with the success of other sports.
  7. but they're 10-3 this year. playoffs in basically everything except boys and girls basketball, which i mean, that's understandable. and from what I'm hearing, the different programs feel supported over there. which is kind of the point of the athletic director. It's not the football director.
  8. I played 3 sports and went on to play college soccer. But the football coach wasn't having me do contact drills (or kicking drills) in the middle of soccer district, jeopardizing my soccer playoffs, either. I think that's the issue here. All of the guys on here who pretty much only care about football think that's the way the AD should run things, and a good AD should be taking care of all athletes and making sure all teams are as successful as possible.
  9. Texas is a football mecca, but a good AD still does more than win at just football. this isn't 30 years ago. screwing over other programs and only concentrating on football is not a recipe for promotion. You can't tell me that these big time jobs aren't going to look beyond football record when they have hundreds of applications?
  10. ADs don't allow them to do school baseball drills in the middle of football season, though. so the double standard is still there.
  11. but will he be doing contact football drills mid-season?
  12. That was in response to his assertion that athletes not be able to run because they might pull a muscle.
  13. I'm not convinced. High school football is the best place for this, and if he actually wants responses, it shouldn't be an issue for me to move it, which is what I'm doing. That said, I swear there was a thread on this very thing started before there.
  14. an intentionally dense oversimplification of the issue at hand.
  15. I’m fine with him doing stuff legally. Both sides have set precedents the last 10 years are so that have taken most of the decorum and decency out of politics. It’s always been dirty, but it’s downright filthy business now.
  16. I’m more concerned about the current, but nothing about the way trump has acted towards republicans who have “crossed him” leads me to believe that he won’t do everything he can to get back at people. He can’t run again if he wins, and he seems more unhinged than 8 years ago, so I don’t know what’ll stop him. I guess if he wins we’ll find out.
  17. he'll 1000% abuse this if elected and given the chance. he's like a petulant little kid. again, I'm voting for his policy, but he's all about revenge against slights and wrongs, both real and perceived.
  18. There is a difference, but I wouldn't at all put it past Trump to do so if he had the infrastructure in place to get away with it like the Dems currently do. With the amount of effort he's invested in ruining those republicans who've opposed him, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.
  19. Surely you're aware of the great lengths Trump has gone to disrupt the elections and destroy the careers of republican politicians who haven't supported some of his most outlandish claims, or dared to question him or disagree with him about January 6. You and I actually agree on this issue, although it must only go one way for you, because Trump's actions against republicans who didn't fall into lockstep with him is one of my biggest concerns about reelecting him. The fact that he took action to affect literally hundreds of republican primaries from national elections down to municipal levels across the country, is concerning. It would've been one thing had he done it in an effort to help republicans win. Instead his purpose was to push out his perceived detractors and install MAGA politicians at every level of government in as many places as possible, and has resulted in a fractured republican party.
  20. Most voters doubt Biden’s physical, mental fitness to be president, Trump’s ability to act ethically: poll | Fox News "Most American voters have little confidence that President Biden possesses the physical and mental fitness required to serve another term in the White House, while a similar majority is concerned that former President Trump would not act ethically if elected, according to a new poll." Pretty much sums it up for me. I'll take the unethical guy and hope that he sticks with similar policy to what he did the first time, but no way i actually trust him. It's still mind-blowing to me that this is the matchup we have for the second election running.
  21. Intentionally keeping top secret documents haphazardly around the house comes to mind. A lot of what came out of his mouth, torpedoing the political careers of republicans who didn’t fall in line? I don’t know that he all of a sudden became a beacon of moral light and goodness just because he got into office. Again, we’re not talking about policy, but what kind of person he is. If anything he seemed to get worse once he was in power as far as I could see.
  22. I get all of the arguments, but part of being the AD is doing what’s best for all of your programs, not just football. And it’s not best for the baseball program for one of its best players to be hurt doing football drills right before the baseball playoffs. There are things he can be doing to get ready for football that don’t risk injury. And I also stand by the opinion that the football coach would not be happy at all if the kid got hurt in the middle of football season at a fall practice for varsity baseball. In fact I’d bet a whole lot of money that that player wouldn’t be allowed to participate in that baseball practice to begin with. I think a lot of the people that are okay with this would also be upset if the situation and sports were reversed, because they’re only really worried about football. But that’s just my opinion.
  23. Kinda depends for me. Did coach mandate it? Tell the player he better show up? Or did the player want/choose to be there?
  24. It better be mild. It's necessary during football season, but you shouldn't have other sport athletes going crazy on the weights in the middle of their other seasons. There's plenty of off season.
