    This Board Needs....

A 5th grade teacher gives her students an assignment for the weekend. Think of something that happened in your family and you could use an idiom or a parable to describe it. Monday rolled around and that teacher started calling on different students. She asked Sally if she could think of something that happened in her family. Sally said her family owned some chickens and every weekend they go to the farmers market to sell them. One weekend they had all of the eggs in one box in the back of the truck. Her father hit a big pothole and the box fell on the road and broke. Her idiom was, don’t put all your eggs in one basket. The teacher said, that’s a good one. The teacher then called on Tommy. Tommy said that his father always caught a lot of fish. This weekend he went with his father for the first time do you learn how to fish. Tommy said that he ended up catching almost as many fish as your father. The teacher asked, what was the parable. Tommy’s father told him that he’s just a chip off the old block. The teacher cringed but eventually had to call on Little Johnny. Little Johnny said… My Uncle Bob was a fighter pilot in Vietnam. One day he was shot down and as he was about to bail out of his jet he grabbed a fifth of whiskey, a machine gun and a machete. As he was floating down in the parachute, uncle Bob saw 200 enemy soldiers waiting on him. He quickly drank the fifth of whiskey and then used the machine gun to kill 100 of the enemy troops on his way down. He ran out of bullets when he hit the ground and kill 75 of them with a machete but then it broke. He then killed the last 25 with his bare hands. The teacher said, OH MY GOSH….. but after thinking about it for a couple of minutes asked Little Johnny, but what is the parable? Little Johnny said, “Don’t £#@& with Uncle Bob when he’s been drinking”.

  3. A quick look shows the average Sunbelt Conference school athletics budget is $35.5 million and Appalachian State was over $37 million. That’s over twice the amount that Lamar spends. Like I said, Lamar University board of regents, alumni, Presidents, and former AD’s are the reason they’re in this position right now. City of Beaumont too

  4. Agree 100%. The Beaumont/Port Arthur area has declined drastically and there is nothing for college age students to do. Lamar itself doesn’t put hardly any emphasis on its athletic programs like they use to when they brought in good coaches, instead of retread’s or first time head coaches with very little experience, and had good teams that people would actually go to watch.

    BC Card Baseball

There are several folks who frequent this board that truly know the game of baseball and are great to have a discussion with and then there are folks who make comments like this one and few others in this thread. Here are few things to think about....... 1. There is no denying the rule in question that LCM called out BC on, it's in black and white, no dispute. What can be added to the conversation is that this practice of bringing up JV guys to the varsity game after they played their JV game is more common than most realize. It's happened for years. These guys occasionally get in the varsity game as pinch runners because if they were good enough to be an impact player they would be in the varsity lineup from the start. Next time you go to a varsity game take a look at the guys when they warm up, you can spot the ones who just got done playing. I'm not saying it happens every day but it happens more than most people know. 2. Saying that a "coach got them" is a bad look. Regardless of whatever motive took place LCM gained nothing with the move, no district championship and a first round playoff exit. Bridge City forfeited the games in question and everybody moved on. At least most folks did. 3. The statement concerning "mentality" and "that's how they are coached at BC" shows just exactly how out of touch some people are. The staff at BC is one of the top in the area and the program has arguably been one of the best in the area for quite some time. You don't build a program like that, send dozens of players to the collegiate level (and now pro - Jake Lemoine) by teaching guys to blame someone else, that's just a really weak statement, by someone with little to no knowledge of the BC program, that holds no truth whatsoever. Rake1 P.S. Umps didn't get them against Robinson, Chad Hollingsworth did. He was the Friday night guy for Univ of Texas. He was a good one.

  6. Coach Carter is a great baseball coach as well as a great man. My son enjoyed playing for Carter and learned a lot about not only baseball but life. He is a great mentor for these young men at PNG.

I could not disagree more. The UIL would face tremendous political backlash in Austin for it.

  10. Yep…bats can go cold on any team. Plus you never know when an opposing pitcher can get locked in and have an amazing game.

Not sure how you got to there, I’m no better than anyone but obviously myself and many others were smart enough to see this train wreck coming but many didn’t because they have no clue as to what is going on politically. That is something I can’t do anything about, and it’s getting worse, not better.

  13. Lamar is in need of facilities upgrade too. They don’t have money or don’t want to spend money to upgrade facilities. Turf at Vincent was a bandaid. They need to revamp that whole place. No reason to have 3,500 seat stadium when you average about 1,000 for home homes. I would make it smaller with new covered stands, new locker rooms, concession stand, outfield wall, scoreboard, etc. Lamar belongs in Southland because of the fact they aren’t all in on sports either.

Sometimes “facts” are just opinions that people feel really strongly about.

  15. That sounds like an excuse due to the overall athletics program in disarray. I didn’t think the move with that type geographical setup was fiscally responsible to begin with. Hoping for a good AD hire. Athletics needs some direction, because right now it’s nose diving into the ground.
