America Is Back!
thetragichippy and 2 others reacted to AggiesAreWe for a topic
We have Hispanic friends (legal) that attend a Hispanic church here in Silsbee. According to them, 90-95% of the congregation voted Republican this last election and will still vote Republican this coming midterm. They want illegals (some are family members) out of Texas. They understand why some come here illegally (good people looking for a better life, not the criminals) but feel if they had to go through all the red tape to be here legally, then everyone should. BTW, this new market is being owned and operated by a local business man who owns a pallet company here and employs several Hispanic families that were in need of this type market. Kudos to Mr. Worthy.3 points -

Absolutely kudos to Mr. Worthy. It’s great for Silsbee. My point is that ICE tends to target places Hispanics congregate or frequent. To even have to think they might use their disruptive tactics at small businesses In small towns is appalling.2 points -

Truth… it’s what I’ve been saying. Sane people like you and I, who probably have differing views on a lot of issues, but agreeing that those guys (the far left and far right) are the real problem with America today need to stand up and be heard.2 points -

Big Daddy Cool and one other reacted to AggiesAreWe for a topic
This will be our SETXsports Official Realignment thread. All realignment info will be posted here. Also, after the districts are announced, we will then decide which districts we will cover here at SETXsports. Likely the same as always but with a tweak here or there. Just depends on where our core schools fall and what other outlier schools join them.2 points -
ANOTHER ICE SHOOTING IN Minneapolis
LumRaiderFan and one other reacted to OlDawg for a topic
My personal stance on this stuff has been pretty clear from the get go. The Constitution and SCOTUS rulings guarantee the First Amendment Right to peaceably assemble & protest our government. This is NOT what's occurring in Minnesota. These are NOT peaceful assemblies. They are interference and harboring/abetting. I do NOT like some of the technology and tactics being employed by some Immigration Enforcement Agents. I believe they are violating the 4th Amendment, and amount to warrantless searches. I have no issues with face coverings on Immigration agents as long as they are required to wear 'always on' body cams that are checked out and in daily with their contents downloaded and reviewed and placed into a wearer's personal file to address any future legal questions, and/or for training purposes. The footage should be kept for a standard amount of time that's agreed to at the Federal level for Federal agents. Officers/Agents should be required to wear more standardized uniforms, and use standard, easily labeled vehicles. If someone vandalizes them, they should be arrested, booked, and jailed. They should be forced to pay for damages before their release as part of their 'bond', or their wages should be able to be garnished for compensation. The Administrative vs. Judicial warrant questions need to be addressed. Immigration Officers/Agents should not be allowed to just randomly stop people and ask their citizenship status. The wearing of body cams should help eliminate some of these possible abuses. Employers should be forced to use the I-9 system, and it needs to be integrated into a working, national database. Sanctuary policies have to be stopped. This issue needs to go to SCOTUS on a fast track. Just my thoughts, and have been the same since the beginning of this mess. Some of the groups organizing the protests that aren't peaceful are a side issue as are the individual shootings we've been discussing. But, I think it might be a good idea to have protesters have to get a permit before large gatherings that interfere with public venues/emergency egress/access where local law enforcement/emergency services can be prepared. This doesn't infringe on people's right to peaceably assemble & protest, and would seem to be a reasonable limitation for public safety. Not all my thoughts are a solution. They may not even be workable, or legal. But, they're common sense to me as a person who respects our officers attempting to do their jobs while also protecting our civil liberties. P.S. I don't like our teachers involving our kids in this stuff before they are of legal age at all. Period. We send our kids to school, and assume they're being protected in a safe environment. Not let out on the street to participate in these activities.2 points -
Just heard Bill O’Reilly say that a large portion of the funding of these radical protesters are funds coming from China.2 points

Enrollment Figures Released
OlDawg reacted to purple reign for a topic
My guess it will have minimal effect on enrollments. I'm remembering when Guidant closed their Intermedics facility, a medical pacemaker manufacturer in 1999 in Angleton which employeed a whopping 1400 people just after aquiring it, I thought it would have a big affect on Angleton HS, but it didn't. There was a modest increase in Angleton's enrollment in both 2000 and 2002. Just because employees have to change jobs doesn't mean they will have to move. They will often find jobs somewhere else though they may have a longer commute. The main reason Dow is doing this is that Dow is not doing good at all, their stock has been dropping for a long time. I'm a Dow retiree and my daughter was a chemical engineer at Dow for 19 years working in automation and she just quit them a few months ago and went to work for BASF, a company right next to Dow's Plant B. Her husband, another chemical engineer still works for Dow and should he get laid off, my hope she will be able to help him get a job at BASF. The odd thing is he started his carreer at BASF and years ago came over to Dow. For professionals, anbody getting laid off should get a 6-digit separation package. At this point all we know is that there will be about 4500 people laid off worldwide and if iirc about 20% of Dow's workforce is in Freeport. Chemical engineers are in big demand',there's always "head hunters" looking for them.1 point -

My whole point is New Caney pays some of the higher salaries of head coaches in the entire Houston area. Neither offensive or defensive coordinator has to teach class. The facilities are top notch both at the stadium and at West Fork High School. There is nothing wrong with promoting form within, however when you’re getting coaches that have the resume of a guy like Cope and I’m sure they got several other good ones I can definitely understand going in a different direction. If you’re going to fund your programs that well and provide all those resources it’s your responsibility to hire the best coach, not hire someone out of loyalty because you feel like you have to do that. Not a shot at any of the Mcdouglads who are great football coaches and people.1 point

1. Yes. The Minnesota protests and others similar are not protected speech. They are criminal acts with some being a felony. People standing on the sidewalk and shouting their disapproval are not included but anyone that interferes with the law enforcement, any government operation or denying citizen access including blocking roads, trying to slow down government vehicles, etc., are committing a crime. 2. Agree however, the Fourth Amendment doesn’t take a lot to reach reasonable suspicion for a detention but it requires at least some facts and circumstances. I am not sure what ICE/CBP are using as justification for detentions. It would have to be on a case by case basis and I never see enough to make a decision one way or the other. Certainly a policy itself can be wrong such as instructing agents that reasonable suspicion is not required. The Supreme Court disagrees, 3. Agree. 4. Agree. 5. Agree. 6. Agree. Actually ties into 2. 7. Agree. 8. Agree however, the Supreme Court can rule against sanctuary policies of states or cities but they have no legislative authority so cannot set penalties or judgments. Their only recourse in my opinion is to rule that sanctuary policies or laws might violate the Supremacy Clause. There then has to be a USC section making it a criminal and/or civil offense. Any enforcement action would have to be prosecuted by the DOJ. Is there such a law that specifically makes sanctuary state governments or political subdivision sanctuary actions an offense? If there isn’t, Congress surely isn’t going to pass one. I agree that the children are being used as indoctrination pawns and it is despicable.1 point

If you look to the South the Kountze school district won some state championships last year in basketball. Look to the north and Woodville was in the state football championship. The biggest common denominator between these two are large housing complex's. Warren has none, these rural folks put their heart and soul into their Ag program. Not that there's anything wrong with that but it's the difference between winning and losing athletics programs.1 point

There’s plenty of evidence that indicates that he’s done something. Is there proof? I don’t think so. And it doesn’t matter, because his supporters can hear him (In his own voice) demanding that the Secretary of State from Georgia “find me the votes,” but think that there’s no “there” there. But then be freaking out for joy this week when the feds run through the Georgia election department, but be mad when the feds went and retrieved classified documents from Mir-a-Lago because Trump hadn’t done anything wrong. His supporters are only committed to one thing. Not conservatism, not America, not Christ, not even committed to the idea of right and wrong… but they are steadfastly committed to Trump.1 point -
Trumps sue YOU for $10 billion.
DCT reacted to TheMissingBand for a topic
It goes way further back than that. When you go back to the Nixon years, you had Rs who told Nixon “we’re going to vote to convict… you need to resign.” Somewhere in the 90s is when things really started to get more adversarial, and we no longer hold “our” guys accountable. From the Whitewater investigation that turned into Clinton being impeached for lying about honking his intern… it’s just been getting worse. The “Lil Bushie” cartoon when we were in the gulf war. The racist attacks on Obama, combined with his opinions/views/policies on race that only widened racial gaps. I can remember being astounded in ‘15 when Trump came out in the first debate hammering everybody on stage-it was comedy gold and we’d never seen anything like it on the presidential stage before. But now that angry, attack, lie, defame strategy is found at every level of government. Is he to blame? Nah, he was just the first to one to do it… we’re to blame for accepting it. And here’s the thing… I correct my own kids, not anybody else’s. I’m a conservative, Christian, Texan, American. I used to say Republican, but when I see what republicans support today, I can’t claim to be one of them. And MAGA is a horrible political movement that has hijacked, then destroyed the Republican/conservative movement for decades to come, I’m afraid. Ted Cruz used to be considered the most raging conservative prick. Even Republicans had a hard time dealing with him because he was too rigidly right wing. Today he’s “Lyin’ Ted,” a no-good RINO who needs to be taken out by “We The People.” And it’s not because his views have changed, he just wasn’t MAGA enough for MAGA. Same with John Cornyn. At once thought to be the third most conservative member of the US Senate, he’s now facing a defeat by “Our General” Ken Paxton, the corrupt Texas Attorney General who is loved for being one of Trump’s biggest attack dogs, in spite of everything he’s done. Greg Abbott? MAGA hates him now. With MAGA, it doesn’t matter what crimes you commit, as long as you’re loyal to Trump, you’ll have the support of the voters. But you’re right… I’m definitely more vocal when I see “my” side screwing up-because I expect my side to do right, regardless of what the other side is doing. Weak men, when faced with their own shortcomings, will say “yeah, but look what everybody else was doing, too.”1 point -

It's about demand. PNG football draws huge crowds and community interest every week, so of course it gets priority coverage. Basketball just doesn’t have the same turnout, and most of those games are already available to watch live on Hudl anyway. It’s not about who’s winning or losing — it’s about what the community is actually tuning in to.1 point
