In 2013, the Committee to Protect Journalists released a report titled “The Obama Administration and the Press,” which began with this paragraph: “U.S. President Barack Obama came into office pledging open government, but he has fallen short of his promise. Journalists and transparency advocates say the White House curbs routine disclosure of information and deploys its own media to evade scrutiny by the press. Aggressive prosecution of leakers of classified information and broad electronic surveillance programs deter government sources from speaking to journalists.” I've got a whole lot more where that came from. The liberal New York Times stated: “Over the past eight years, the (Obama) administration has prosecuted nine cases involving whistle-blowers and leakers, compared with only three by all previous administrations combined. It has repeatedly used the Espionage Act, a relic of World War I-era red-baiting, not to prosecute spies but to go after government officials who talked to journalists.” Politicians are scum - both sides. "Your guy" ain't no better than the other guy...4 points -

The younger people who are contributing into a 401K or similar are getting a MUCH better bang for their buck right now vs. the greatly overpriced market they were buying into a year or so ago. People don't understand stocks are "on sale" now instead of being "overpriced". My best investing ever happened during the Covid crash. I made a ton of money then.2 points -

Silsbee Football 2025

I understand. And the reason I said what I said is that the basketball team makes it to state all the time. Their odds will greatly increase to go back next year if the Bryants show up, but they have a shot regardless almost year in and year out. Conversely, if you take a football team that has never won state, but has gone 34-6 and won 7 playoff games over the last 3 seasons, and bring in a QB who some talk about as being the best dual-threat qb IN THE COUNTRY for his class... I just tend to think the football team might benefit even more than the basketball team.1 point -

the football team is very good as well. They had a down year last year and went 9-4. adding this family to the district does arguably more for the football team, although it is huge for basketball as well.1 point -

Something I found to educate those that think they know it all and call themselves Christians. This is from the Old Testament Book of Deuteronomy. How erroneous is this? The concept of the Jewish people as God's chosen people is most explicitly stated in Deuteronomy 7:6 and Deuteronomy 14:2. Deuteronomy 7:6 says, "For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession." Similarly, Deuteronomy 14:2 states, "For you are a holy people to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people of his own possession, out of all the nations that are on the face of the earth." In addition to these verses, other passages in the Hebrew Bible, such as Genesis 17:1 and Genesis 12:2-3, also allude to the special status of the Israelites as God's chosen people and his special relationship with them.1 point -

I have officiated HS football and baseball for years. Fans, coaches, players have all gotten out of hand with belittling umpires. We could care less, what teams are playing and do the best we can to call a fair game. I have a great job and make more money than most, at my regular job. So officiating HS sports is a hobby that most of us take seriously. We are going to make mistakes in both sports, but nothing is ever intentional. We have always had shortages of officials and its 100 percent due to parents and coaches totaling bashing us for the 3 hours they have on the field. Some of TASO officials work 4-5 nights a week to make sure we have some sort of coverage for your games. We spend time away from our families because we love the game and not necessarily for the money. Sometimes I wish that I could walk away from officiating, but guilt sets in when there are 2 teams, 1 driving 45 minutes away to get to a game, only to have no official show up do officiate the game. I have been the only official on the field for a 9th grade and even a JV game only to have coaches screaming at the top of their lungs, about a hold that I didn't see. Anyways, if we had more of the fan base, put on some stripes, and take on some of these games, you might get a better called game due to officials just not being overworked. Thanks for listening.1 point

This is good advice. Not not just for cops, but anyone who writes. Writers should always say what they’re saying in the simplest, most direct way. Avoid jargon, filler words, etc. “It should be noted” is a great example. I also love “detained in handcuffs” when “I handcuffed him” would be more direct. I think people — Even experts — are afraid to write simply, as if that would betray a lack of expertise or professionalism. The truth is the opposite. A straight line is the shortest distance between two points, and a good sentence is the shortest distance to an idea. I enjoyed your write up.1 point

Misinformation is common and much of it is likely unintentional. Assumptions and rumors are easy to start, especially in today’s instance communication World. All that is needed is a mere suggestion or question for false information to go wild. If a person asks, is blah blah blah true, the person hearing it will probably say to someone else, I heard that they might be looking at blah blah blah. By the third or fourth person, it is no longer a question but a fact. “I heard from a guy that I trust that blah blah blah is true!!”. I am sure that I have told this story before so I won’t go into great detail but I started a rumor at my police department by asking a question. I ask at my shift meeting if anyone heard the rumor that the city was about to name an interim Chief Of Police from the Amarillo PD. Of course no one had heard about it because I made it up about 15 seconds earlier. I concluded with, it is probably another nonsensical rumor based on nothing at all. Forget you even heard it. On the way into the police station the next afternoon, I was met by a lieutenant who asked if I had any details on the Amarillo PD assistant chief who was about to be named as our interim chief. I should have said that he was supposed to be there at 2 PM tomorrow for our evening shift Roll Call meeting and everybody needed to wear Class A uniforms with ties and hats. 🤣🤣🤣1 point

Here's an interesting stat: Since 1981, Silsbee has had just 3 head basketball coaches. Terry Culley, Joe Sigler and Travis Williams. 3 coaches in 45 years. Also in football since 1984. Silsbee has had just 3 head coaches. Charlie Woodard, Bobby McGallion and Randy Smith. 3 coaches in 41 years. That's my point of stating Silsbee hires long term and not short term.1 point -
Yes it would be a felony in Texas if the blade was over 5.5” and on school grounds. Texas did away with restrictions on the length of a legal knife as long as it isn’t in a restricted location such as a bar, school grounds, etc., or basically anywhere that you could not lawfully carry a handgun. So a person can walk down the street with a Roman broadsword on his side and it is legal. Going to a bar or on school grounds with a 5.75” blade and it’s a felony. That is a no on the Capital Murder. It is not merely committing another felony that makes it Capital Murder but certain felonies. Examples are during a robbery, sexual assault, kidnapping, murder for hire, etc..1 point

Tried to look up some numbers for capacity. Of course, there are usually some design changes as the project progresses. But, I saw where there were supposed to be 500 more seats than old Bulldog. Numbers for seating (without Press Box, Viewing Deck, and possible allowable overflow by Fire Marshall using Concourse viewing) seem to range from 9,000-10,000. Not sure if any viewing will be allowed from Development Center deck during sold out games or not. Should be enough seating for most events, but not feel empty because of oversizing. Spring game is May 14. So, I'll try to go and get some pics. Being told the bands/drill teams will sit on the horseshoe sections where the direct field viewing is all for paying fans. Also being told all the technology is set up for broadcasting even better than LPSportsnet now, and the video screen is definitely jumbo sized. There's a rumor that LPSportsnet may partner with Texan Live--but still provide all the camera work, commentary & audio/visuals. Don't know truth of the rumor right now. The cameras now don't do the size and scope of everything justice when seen in real life. If you've been to the Bulldog Centre for volleyball, basketball just due east of the stadium, you can kind of see the size difference, and Bulldog Centre isn't small at all. It's like a college arena complex. The Board and Administration said they--as always--try to have the best facilities possible since they know many will not move on to college facilities, and they want the experience to be as good as it can be at LPHS for those that don't participate in activities at a higher level. Now all we need is approval for DQ delivery via drone. Or, just have a DQ pickup counter in the stadium since it would still be fresh from the 5 minute walk. 😁1 point

Been told seating is the same (10,000) because it had to fit in the same footprint. District didn’t want to buy more land. Prudent move. The horseshoe allows for the bigger/UIL regulation track setups and press box while keeping the seating the same. I think it’s a pretty unique setup for a high school stadium. I really like it as well.1 point
