  1. Man, those Dallas teams have a history of whining and crying about stuff like this. Even on the basketball side. Their feelings are hurt. They’ll get over it.

  4. They were, but are back at PNI now for the first time in a few years. I did my kid’s class Christmas party yesterday with his wife. He’s a Nederland grad, with a business in Groves, that lives in PN. I do think he should have recused himself from this game even though I think he did a fine job. Just rewatching the game, he seemed to be the senior official. When the other refs had questions, they went to him. He has reffed at some high levels including college. The chain gang was from Vidor. Maybe they gave us some 9 yard 1st downs. 😀

  5. That Dallas superiority complex does not deal well with defeat. And this carries over to a lot of other things in life far beyond sports.

  6. Silsbee’s always one of the best teams in 4ADII. Even if young, y’all will have the talent to be competitive.

  7. I was so sad when his brother got injured. He was a stud with over 90 tackles last season. He was a BA wideout as well.

  8. I'd think the PNG folks would have a legitimate gripe with having a Nederland grad officiating their game. Bottom line is this, that call didn't cost them the game. It was the right call and wasn't made by the official who lives in Port Neches. Todd sounds like a crybaby bringing it up.

  9. With what they have returning, I think PNG will be better next year if they can replace Shea. Nyguen will be tough, but Chatagnier and the young RB coming up should be able to fill in. Having most of that O-line back sure makes things easier. Reid Richards is one that hardly came off the field. Kid is a ball player. It may take 2 guys to replace him, but it can be done. As for Shea…PNG won more games with him out this season than when he played. That said, he was never truly out. I commented on many game threads this season about him on the sidelines on a scooter giving signals and rolling around motivating the team and getting in Bailey’s ear after every series. All of his 1 & 2 yard TD’s from the wildcat can be easily replaced. The leadership he displayed the last 2 seasons on and off the field was the difference in my opinion. Stats can be replaced. Leadership is much harder to quantify. If someone can fill Shea’s huge shoes, PNG should have another great season.

  10. They’re teaching these kids at an early age, if you don’t get what you want it’s ok to cry and try to steal it. I’m actually embarrassed for them, it’s sad.

  14. The projected districts has us in a district of 7 teams, which means 4 non district games. If this is the case, I’d want… 1. PN-G 2. Channelview 3. Mongomery 4. Fort Bend Hightower

  17. The 2023 season has been over for four days now, so naturally, it's time to talk about the 2024 season. Post-realignment, who do you want your team to play in pre-district during the 2024-25 seasons? I'll start. For PN-G, in order of preference, I want: Port Arthur Memorial; Silsbee; Barbers Hill; Jasper; and/or West Orange-Stark. I suspect PN-G will be in a weaker (though possibly larger) district next year, so I want a more thorough pre-district test to prepare us for the playoffs.

  22. What is bad is at the state game they bring a ALT official. All he would have had to do is switch with the ALT at anytime before the game.

  23. This grievance will go nowhere.....The local referee in question didn't get a knock on his hotel door at 10 am that morning with his assignment to officiate said game. He knew well ahead of time what game his crew would be officiating. He also had to think at some point this could be a bad situation to put not only himself but his team and community in. You know take the high road, do the right thing and bow out. He chose other wise. I would be willing to bet it was an oversight on several levels that created this situation. At the end of the day he, imo was no way a factor in SOC losing the game. jmo

  25. Let me first remind that the Elite Status category is mine. In everything I've done my standards are a little higher than most. Everyone here may have what constitutes Elite Status. I'm sure there are some here that think a coach with a losing record is some-how Elite. Maybe because he's a nice guy? But, again, that's their prerogative. So, the tenants in my Elite category are as follows: Doug Ethridge, Tim Buchanan, Steve Suratt, Gordon Wood, Art Briles, Steve Wood, ETC. Regarding Neuman, based on how bad Nederland was, and is, Neuman did an exceptional job -- per Nederland's standards! But, did he achieve the same level of success that above mentioned coaches did? Absolutely not. Based on this backdrop, it drops him down to just a great coach. But, on the other hand, did I think that Neuman had the ability to achieve this status. Yes, I do think he did. But the reason that he did not, my opinion, was that he had a blind spot that he wouldn't correct. But, maybe he didn't think that needed correcting. 19 years and never made it to the big dance. We can all make excuses why this never happened. Maybe he just didn't have the "it" factor. Or, maybe if he had just played lesser competition in the playoffs?! Who knows?! Well, I think I know. But, again, my opinion!

  27. Probably not, I think he knows that it wasn't him and is saving face for losing by blaming refs. He knows what his team did offensively and is gaslighting. Had some respect for him but losing some with that interview.

  31. SOC-PNG; Bellville-Gilmer and Malakoff-Franklin were competitive down to the very end Gunter-Tidehaven was pretty competitive until the 4th Mart-Albany and Duncanville-North Shore were close enough to where it wasn't a total blowout but you never felt like Mart or North Shore was coming back to win Yeah everything else...blowout city

  32. This won’t go anywhere. Even if the complaint wasn’t ludicrous, what is the result they think will happen? Overturn every other moment in the game and give the championship to SOC? I would very much like to see every email and other written communication exchanged between the teams, and between the teams and the ref crew, as well as all of the information that was made available to both sides. SOC is claiming a “lack of transparency,” but I think this is going to more a case of, “you tricked me by me not reading what I was supposed to read.” I AM curious how a guy with “Port Neches” in his bio ended up on the crew. It seems like something he should have recused himself from. On the other hand, if both sides agree, what harm has been done? None of this changes the fact that everyone has to deal with bad, even heart-breaking calls. All of us remember games, even in the playoffs, where a ref didn’t call a penalty - or did call a penalty - that we disagreed with. There were several such instances against PNG in this playoffs. If PNG had lost, SOC wouldn’t be complaining about the non-call on PI in the end zone (by the same guy who did the PI that later got called) that stopped a PNG touchdown. They are teaching their kids and community a horrible lesson.

  33. When I saw them they had 3-4 '6 "5 or better. I watched them beat Tyler Legacy by 38 then they beat Nacogdoches by 38. Like I said, really thought they would have beat Dickinson.

  39. Too me an elite coach will have these traits very good discipline and the team makes very few mistakes (non many penalties, few turnovers, a fundamentally sound team in all 3 phases, and a team that plays extremely hard) assistant coaches that are on the same page, very loyal, highly dedicated, and teach fundamentals very well and have an excellent game plan vs every opponent the entire coaching staff treats the players well and the team is highly prepared for every game. They also have a tremendous off season program Even if the talent level is down, their opponent will know they have been in an extremely tough battle after the game is over

    2024 WOS Mustangs

Probably the big reason why coach Jones is so successful is that he didn’t try to fix what was not broken. In addition he fully embraced the longstanding culture and expectations. Tradition is important. When CT was hired as head coach he had already been in the program for 30 years. He was a huge part in building the program at WOS. In Contrast HH changed offense and defense immediately. The kids were confused. Lack of discipline ensued and now the program is just another average program. You Dont have to be an experienced football coach to see the lack of organization on the field of play . WOS has been blessed with an abundance of top level student athletes year in a year out. It is not fair to our kids to not have the best coaches we can get. You can take a look at PNG and what they have done. They went out and hired Jeff Joseph and the results speak for themselves. PNG will be formidable year in and out with a coaching staff like that. PNG does not have the athletes that WOS but they do have the coaching. WOS no longer scares opponents when they see them on their schedule. It is so frustrating as a lifelong Mustang to see what is happening to our kids.
