I figured that that would happened... Not only that I've been hearing lately that the talent for at least the next several years (both football and basketball) will be very limited to say the least. But I've said this before most of the talent at least the families I know has moved to other areas outside of Coldspring (most of the talent I've seen here personally where I live in Huntsville). Then you have Shepherd taking some of our students so don't be surprised in a few years Shepherd will be the regular powerhouse around here and Coldspring will be mediocre.

The Connell Legacy as a player ends this year. It has been a great run for those boys. They each played 4 years of Varsity basketball for Buna.

Well well, this might throw a wrench into things as far as district championship is concerned for GCM.

Coach English strikes again.

The 7 year number is not an arbitrary number. I looked at actual Elite coaches to see what their basic time frame was when winning a Title. The average was 4 years. So, not being a total cad, I added 3 years. Now, this is for those that want to have a standard, philosophy if you wish. There aren't that many, at any given time, Elite coaches. I would say 10-15%. So the chances of a school sitting on a coach for, say, 24 years, and wanting a State Title is not very good. Burnett, Neumann, Faircloth, and Matthews, well, I pretty well knew a State Title was not in their future after 7 years. Again, if there are only around 10% that will become Championship coaches, then the turnover has to begin in order to find one. Now, I'll say again, that's only if a certain school district is concerned with winning a Title. If they are not really concerned, then by all means hang on to a coach for 30 years and see if a Title is produced. Now, well some be missed, like Barbay at Newton? Absolutely. But that's the price of have a standard and sticking with it. But this would be a very small percentage that you would miss. There aren't that many coaches that become Elite coaches after 20 or 30 years. Now, as for as the Silsbee coach: I actually had him penciled in for a ring this year. But was really surprised when they got eliminated. So, if a plan was in place, then yes, he would be replaced. He hasn't done it in 7 years. So what makes us think he can do it in 20 or 30 years? But, again, that's left up to Silsbee and if they even care about a State Title.

I was making light of the person who said the coach must win state in so many years or else. That’s ridicules. An elite program like WO-S only has 4 state championships, Newton only 5. There are 62 teams that start out in each division, only one is crowned.

I've seen them both play, and I think HF has the better team this year. We'll find out soon enough. Should be a fun game to watch!

Years ago PN-G went outside of Texas and hired a coach from New Mexico, his name was Etheridge.

Nederland was in that boat before Neumann showed up, he showed them a different path. Look at Neds record for the 20 years before 1994. And I am not backing Reagan's off the wall theories, they also had some talent come up through the ranks during those years. But you have to know how to use that talent as well.

With the Indians being in Crosby tonight I got to take this one in as I have family in Buna. There were 3 tough calls down the stretch with 2 of them going the cougars way. I'm not sure the Cougars led very much in this one, Connell hit a huge shot to tie the game but the play that happened afterward was absolutely a foul. The cougars are solid, and have nothing to hang their heads about.

If Surratt came to Vidor, Vidor would immediately do things it has never done in its history. Nearly all of Vidor’s problems can be solved with coaching. Instead, everyone blames the kids. As if there’s some big genetic difference between Vidor and PNG and Nederland (and when Vidor was in our district, except for the last few years they had the same size school as PNG). Before Hurricane Harvey, Vidor was sitting right at around 1400 kids. All respect to Coach Matthews, but I think Vidor runs their gimmick offense because Coach Matthews doesn’t know how to teach the skills necessary to run anything else. Vidor kids can run whatever their coach can or will teach them to run. Vidor players could blow everyone’s minds if their leadership believed they could.

One more thing VISD students and fans have to look forward to… can’t say the same good ol’BC. We’ll I guess they can look forward to riding down Baileys or getting a corn dog

I would agree with Charles that Pete is the best guard in the district and likely the best player. Although I do like the Connell kid from Buna a lot as well. And certainly that is an opinion and everybody is entitled to theirs and I’m sure a case could be made for another kid or two (I.e., from EC or Kountze). I also agree they Ghost is an exceptional freshman. My guess is he’s trolling a bit calling him the greatest freshman of all time.
