cal81 Posted 18 hours ago Report Posted 18 hours ago Plain and simple, Nederland's last season was not very good and this one is not very good. Quote

Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted 17 hours ago Report Posted 17 hours ago 3 hours ago, Couch.Coach said: Thanks for bringing the numbers up. In several cases the enrollment doesn't reflect the athletic participation. Even though Nederland is around 1400 kids, i would bet they have more kids in their high school program than Memorial. No one ever talks about the amazing job PA has been able to do. They are around 1700 students also, but over half of their enrollment in hispanic, with absolutely no interest in American football. For many, english is their second language. So while Memorial plays in 5A-D1, their program has the involvement of a Silsbee..........and they still handle business. Maybe Nederland doesn't have as many students enrolled, but they definitely compete in program size & participation....for now. I disagree Rich is a good coach. Maybe a good assistant. But as your first head coaching job, this one might not be the one. Maybe a smaller school, with less visibility and a weaker district. I think he's a good guy, just in over his head. He should have started at an Evadale, not the #1 high school rivalry in the nation. We're at 2021 enrollment, but I understand what you're saying though. 👍🏾 Quote

spidersal Posted 13 hours ago Report Posted 13 hours ago Offensively, you must have a passing game to go with your running game these days to be successful Nederland’s running game was not that bad, however the passing game was lousy I don’t know what they do to choose a QB, but he either needs to be able to throw accurately or the QB coach needs to teach him. It is also a coach’s responsibility to teach receivers how to run good pass routes. Nederland is very poor at that. It is mainly the athletes responsibility to learn to catch a pass. They were really bad at that. I thought the OL blocked pretty well on running plays, but pass blocking was a big issue My take is that they probably didn’t work on pass blocking enough Defensively, they haven’t had good secondary play in years. I take it that the coaching staff does an inadequate job teaching them and they simply have average athletes at those positions I thought the DL was decent vs the run, but pass rushing was not very good and again probably didn’t work on that enough. It also appeared watching their games that the LB’er position has average athletes that appear to be in slow motion. The poor tackling is on the defensive coaching staff That is what I observed watching them and they have major issues to get corrected by next season if they plan on being successful Quote

prepballfan Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago 13 hours ago, Couch.Coach said: They slipped from first in district to fourth, by a few plays. Thomas saved them in several games. I agree they have good players right now. He just needs to figure out how to get the best players on the field, at all positions. It doesnt help when you are in a district trying to buuld a program with (last year) the defending state champs. The quarterfinalist in huntsville, and a couple of tough programs in Montgomery and MLC. Then this year with a solid PNG team, Montgomery team and then a couple of teams that are right there similar to you. Then you have injuries and lack depth. Quote
GoBigBlue1997 Posted 49 minutes ago Report Posted 49 minutes ago Coaching is not the issue. Last years team went 2-8 as sophmores. It is a similar cycle this year. The seniors have really put the effort into this season, but no fault of their own, there just wasn't that many of them. Underclassman are all over the field on both sides of the ball. Nederland, for majority of the games, have been really competetive. Too many stretches were mistakes/turnovers are made that snowball quickly and are too difficult to overcome. I share in the frustration that we continue to make these mistakes and are not learning from them more quickly. The future is bright for Nederland. Receipts are being kept. I am thankful for Coach Rich and the rest of the staff for everything they do for our kids. Some of these posts would make you think that we do not work on anything, but nothing could be farther from the truth. I know there is a lot of people around our community who are disapointed with this season, but I assure you, these kids and coaches are more upset about it than they are. There will not be a lack of motivation for next year that is for sure. Quote
