  1. Name calling Presidents is like hollering at Officials at a football or basketball game. It's a time honored tradition. I've heard them called a lots worse than traitor or Muslim. I'm with you: Let's agree to disagree. It's the way things are. Move on to other topics, like I heard this morning the Cowboys may lose Dez Bryant.
  2. It offends me when you compare Confederate Soldiers to ISIS. I'm afraid you've lost all credibility with me BD3. I make every effort not to do that towards anyone. Sad. I enjoyed these discussions. I've learned. Evidently, you've learned nothing.
  3. I agree PF that those tribes were fighting for a righteous reason. First, I was surprised about the similarity of the words traitor and rebel. Knew the words, just never put the two together, so I learned something myself. What I've been trying to point out, probably not well from your perspective, yes, to the Confederacy slavery was a factor in the war. For whatever reason - political, economical, Nothern attempts to put the South under their thumb, etc. But that young man who joined because his state, his home, was threatened, slavery never crossed his mind. Again, like the boys who went to Nam, country called. I'm not posting this to provoke responses. I have a pretty good idea why you have taken the stand you have (not totally because I'm not black, and haven't lived your life). I just want you to understand what I see when I hear civil war or see that flag. I don't see the despicable things done, I see them young men getting cut down and stacked up like cordwood. That's why I said, we both see an orange but based on our lives, you may see an apple, and I may see a pear. Even though I don't expect you to agree, I hope you can understand what I see, as I understand what you do. Enjoyed this discussion. I think I've learned a few things.
  4. I keep seeing the word traitor in reference to the South. By what I gather by looking up the definition of traitor & rebel, they're pretty close. Let me put this disclaimer in: I'm to heck & gone from being great in English. I studied. Tried hard. Brown nosed my teachers, just to get a C. What I'm posting now may be, by definition, wrong, but it's what my pea brain has come up with. I'll use the American Revolution as my base, since all seem to agree it was fought for the right cause. So as it unfolded, to the British, we were traitors, but to us, we were rebels (way over my head here). So based on that, you can pick any armed struggle of people fighting against the governing body, and call them traitors. That would include the Confederacy, the Irish, also against the British, and many African tribes, like the Zulu, also against the British, and the Boers (I think they were Dutch settlers but not positive). I suppose if we had lost the Am. Revolution, we'd be on line now and the English would still refer to us as traitors. You could also say, hey the African tribes were fighting for their homeland. Yes, so was the Southern soldier. Please, don't think I'm trying to start anything with this. I'm just trying to point out the many ways we have at looking at things. I don't consider those tribes traitors. I don't consider the southern soldier as a traitor. Both were fighting for their homes. I know, apples and oranges. Maybe so, but I think all of us, depending on our life experiences, sometimes look at an apple and see an orange. All of us.
  5. IMO the folks running Iran are either crazy or just fanatics. The Jews in Israel, having almost been exterminated by the Nazis, are paranoid, and again IMO justifiably so. And just a glance at a map will show they are not much more than a dot compared to the other countries that surround them. And virtually all of them want the Israelis dead. I wouldn't want to be in between them when the 2 hits the fan.
  6. Those dudes over there better curb their enthusiasm. If they get froggy with Israel & the nukes start flying, you talk about the price of gas going up. Smh
  7. Seen a lot of them come and go, but she takes the cake. No morals whatsoever. She couldn't spell integrity or honor.
  8. Thanks BP. I do try to look at both sides. I wish I could wave a magic wand and makes us all happy, but I'll have to settle for eating lunch. Since I've gotten old, eating is the one thing I still do well. LOL
  9. Wow, got Quote to work second try. If you can find a place down 1131 you only smell the mill when the north wind blows, & I could smell it in Vidor anyway. It's a gem in the woods.
  10. Well BD3, I've tried to Quote you 3 times, but sometimes this phone, which is smarter than me, gets - mad, lazy, sleeps. To answer your plea for $200, my grandkids (all 5 - two here & 3 in Porter) all have the same physical problem. When they approach me or my wife (almost 50 yrs) their elbows bend and their palms go out. I don't think the Med people can help. And the card my friend gave me, my "boss" got that. Glad cause last time I went to Mall ended up in ICU with rashes. Funny thing about Malls - you could take me in the woods, spin me around, and I could walk straight out. I get in a Mall & my sense of direction is gone! Seriously. I guess it's as close too a panic attack as I can get. Oh, this phone - like a guy with a Lamborghini, and doesn't know how to get it out of first gear lol
  11. One more thing about BS. I wish they had a football team. For whatever reason, in most Sports around here, none of 2A schools are competitive in our District. We breeze thru Dist, and then have to play them two outsiders, Iola & Normangee & tote a whippin. Volleyball last year. Did not lose a set (not sure if that's correct word) in Dist. Seems strange to me. Why we consistently play 3 & 4A schools (and occasionally 5A) in non-District. And most of the time win. At last count our Sr class has 30 kids. They do a lot with a little there.
  12. Before I get to Al Gore, I want to give you an Attaboy. Haven't been on long, but you keep things going. If not for you we'd be trying to figure out who's the best Midfielder on our National Soccer Team (my Gd played that position, otherwise I'd had to put Goalie lol). Now, the Global Warming bunch want to blame fossil fuels. IMO they are minutely correct. Say, less than 5% on any climate change. The rest is cyclical. I stand by my assertion that Al Gore is an Alien living among us. His home planet got too liberal, went broke & he (I'm beginning to think Hillary also) was sent here to raise money to bail them out. Am I a genius or what.
  13. Like I told Hoop, never done this before and I want to enjoy it. Perfect world, I'd like to make a point and get a chuckle. Unfortunately, Pam's concern didn't leave room for humor, and I wanted to express sympathy plus convey to him what that flag & the sacrifice those boys made mean to me & a few old codgers left. thxs to you guys for putting up with me thru the first. Not puter savy & only have Ip4. Got to get a pad. Be retiring end of year PTL
  14. Durn skippy. When I was young, I had principles. Now, yep I can be bought. Thing that bothers me most, older I get cheaper my price is. I feel like a slut.
  15. From what I read of the History of the Civil War, the Confederate soldiers were to busy fighting and dying to commit the atrocities you're referring to. I'm certainly not proud of what many slave owners did, or had done, but the average Confederate soldier was (and I know you've heard this before & will probably blow it off) a relatively poor (what would be described now as trash) man who answered the call for the South, or perhaps drafted into service. He didnt own slaves, nor a pot to pee in or window to throw it out of. Like the hundreds of thousands of boys sent to fight in Viet Nam - to stop the "domino effect" (commies will get VNam then Australia, then U.S.). I was in the Army then. Fortunately, had orders to go & they got cancelled. Hell, we didn't know a commie from a Canadian. If someone mentioned Stalin, we may have heard his name that's it. Our country called and we got sent where they wanted us to go. And almost 60,000 died there, many boys I'd gone to school with. And like the Civil War, most were the poorer young men, not the rich. That's the same as happened to the Confederate soldier. One last thing Pam, I'm not sure but I'd guess slavery started in America just prior to 1700. So slaves were subjected to unimaginable cruelties for a hundred & sixty years prior to the War. That war lasted four years and as you know, hundreds of thousands died. Very few slave owners, they had money. So in that 165 years of slavery, that flag, that meant so much to so many men, innocent of the sins of slavery, was only around 4 years. And those 250,000 men that died, many did in as terrible a way as any slave. I don't care about slave owners except to say I hope they rot in hell. But for all those innocent young men who died, I care for them, just as you care for yours. Don't know what else I can tell ya. We both have TO MUCH to morn, but I'm reaching to you hard as I can. I know your pain, I'm just trying in a sincere way, to explain mine.
  16. A good rivalry in girls BB too. I think it was 2 yrs ago whe my Gd was a Soph, we had a real good team. In BS, ahead by 2, with, I think 2 sec left. BS inbound from under the net to girl out pass the 3 line. She goes up - yep, buzzard goes off half way, nothing but net. Went home feeling good because BS was just better that night.
  17. Can't believe BG miss my shot at him an hour ago
  18. I know you're right. As I've said before, been here in Evadale about six years. With both GK's popular, been around a lot of kids and NEVER heard one use a racial slur. And as most know, their mascot is Rebels. But what most don't know, the colors are Blue & Gold (dam Yankee colors). Friend of mine said they an identity crisis lol. Also, the school emblem is a Crest, with the flag in it. And I've never seen a rebel flag being waved at a ball game. As the kids & people in Evadale aren't racist, I hope the people & media in the area will allow this little community to retain their mascot.
  19. I like good people, I don't care what color they are. Before downsizing got me, we had a black contractor just put in our warehouse. He had got cut from another Co. Under dubious circumstances. Was Nam vet. Helped get him hired. Helped him & his family until he did. Good man! We use to talk about race relations. I told him we all need to forget race, and the Good people, white & black, need to be against the Bad people, white & black. He agreed. That was about 26 years ago. He called me about 4 months ago to meet him. He gave me a $100 gift card for all I'd done for him so long ago. This old man had tears in his eyes.
  20. I would characterize ISIS as fanatics, as the Nazi's were, not Rebels. English/American Rebels who fought our Revolution, nor the American/Confederate Rebels who fought for the South, slaughtered women, children, and non-combatants by the thousands, as the Nazis did & ISIS is doing. Rebels? No, members of ISIS are not rebels. Not even based on the dictionary definition.
  21. Oh no doubt BS. I said it as a joke. But if HE did, I would give him him Kudos and be one happy fat old man. Can't find a sub. that compares.
  22. If someone could arrange for the two of them to meet with the intention of cutting high card, winner take all, I'd almost bet a nice sum Trump would be there. Don't know El Chapo as well, but I doubt he'd show.
  23. As I said above, I saw it on TV, no way they ought to get money. But, if whoever decided they'd get it, made his/her/their decision after a split was arranged with the family, then I understand why they got it. Heck, I got bought by a promise of Sat Sun & Mon off, with pay.
  24. Well y'all may know my feelings on NY from my previous postings, but if the Russian Mobs are there, and are as ruthless as portrayed in movies & TV, El Chapo and his son might need protection. Isn't any doubt Trump could pay to have them taken out.
  25. Growing up in Vidor (don't think less of me Hoop) when I was young @ 1955, I ask my dad if he ever thought about joining the Klan. He told me, "Hell no! If I want to whip somebodies a$$, white or black, I want them to know who's doing it, not hiding under a sheet". Here ends the lesson. I guess the Klan is alive & well, as are the Black Panthers, & no telling how many other racial/religious groups that I'm not aware of. Again, Cest La Vie (such is life - for those of you who flunked French like I did).
