After 51 straight years of attending the boys basketball state tournament, my streak will end this season as I will not be attending this year. My goal since I started going was to attend as many as my dad did who started taking me when I was 8 years old in 1972. My dad ended up attending 50 straight, his last time going in 2007. I made 51 straight last season. My priorities have changed over the years and my interest has waned some the last couple of years. Got grand sons to run around with now (T-ball, soccer, etc.) along with hanging out at the beach. With the wife and I retired now, just got other things I want to do. Actually I'll be hitting the new Horseshoe casino next week. I enjoyed each and every trip to the state tourney. Great memories with my dad and got to see some great basketball. I have been truly blessed. I may attend another state tourney (particularly if Silsbee goes) but the streak had to end sometime. Will miss hanging out with coaches, officials, media and fans that attended on a regular basis. Good luck To Beaumont United next week. Bring home that 3rd state championship.

San Antonio is cool. But there is nothing like the state tournaments at the Drum for all those years

It's funny how in this world, you really can't have a opinion. Matthews did a hell of a job, and changed many kids lives for the better. In the eyes of every fans you are judged on the what have you done lately rule. Let's be honest with coaches from High School to Pros, you must win, you are judged by that. I feel if Matthews schemed a passing game into his playbook, his teams would have been difficult to beat over the years. However my hat is off to this guy on a great job. I enjoyed the games my sons played against him. Wish you much success coach.

Most likely losing 5. I will be surprised if Miller is in school for spring semester. I look for him to enroll early to play spring football.

Absolutely!! Coach Green played at McNeese St with Joe Dumas. He was an assistant coach in Silsbee before taking the head coach job in Kountze. From there he took Kountze, BMT Central, Hightower, and North Shore to state. This would be his 3rd time with Untied. With 2 titles at United and 1 at North Shore, this would give Coach Green 4 state titles. I. Aire pulling for him to get that 3 Peat.

The group with Bush, Adams, McCain, and Barnes was almost once in a lifetime. The 2016-17 Tigers had 10 kids that played college ball in basketball or football.

Some of y’all told me this group was going to be as good or better than the Adams, McCain, Bush group. I found that hard to believe. Results aside, that has never passed the eye test with me. Thought it was unfair to this group to put that type of weight on their shoulders. Still do. Really good bunch who still has one more year to leave their mark and I hope they do. But as I said when they were coming in as freshman. Really good group of kids but let’s slow our roll. They aren’t THAT. Conversely, we did have a group that does meet or surpass that group. And they are COACHED by a Silsbee guy. Go get that three peat Wolves!

You never know. I hope he grows to UT with Manning or LSU. If I'm a betting man, I'd day A&M.

Good thing Hitchcock got to play the Bobcats from Orangefield. Otherwise they wouldn’t have been tested before state. And yes, I know Lorena played them almost as close but Orangefield had them on the ropes for a good portion of that game.

Early season games are a funny thing. I'd bet BU would beat BTW by 10 - 15 right now. And are y'all going to join us at region next year or keep getting slapped around by Furr and BTW.

BTW is a better match upo for FF because they are both designer teams. They basically can build what kind of team they want. It is like going to a signature Krogers supermarket, or HEB, or Wholefoods out in the toney suburbs like Cypress, or Katy, and going in with a $million dollar debit card. Just pick and choose do some kinda sleight of hand trick and presto you team shows up in San Antonio for the state class final four. Then after you win everyone talks about what great players you have, and what a great coach you are blah blah blah. It is all a sham, a farce.

Last year walking to the parking lot in Lufkin I was thrilled for the Tigers but I had a feeling this would be the story in 2023. McDermott, Lewis and Walker would all be back for one thing. And it was Washington’s severe lack up depth that got us to San Antonio last year. That wasn’t the case this year. McDermott wasn’t so desperately missed every nanosecond he wasn’t in the game. Still the Tigers might have won. They had some problems but had a chance to break thru. They just didn’t get the bounces. The Eagles can’t play any better than they did today. Yet it was still competitive. It was great to see Bottley get recognition as all tourney. He played his heart out in both games and was very effective. That pass late in the game last night was something.

That’s awesome to hear, I always pull for any team from southeast Texas. Also that’s one the things I love about this website, you get updates on the game. Bring home the gold BU.

You cannot compare PPP to welfare....... 1. PPP was based on previous payroll of your business.....plus you could pay up to 20% to pay rent. 2. PPP was not forgiven if you fired anyone or did not use the funds as agreed to. 3. The government did not force/demand people not to work who are currently on welfare. 4. Welfare recipients don't have a business to keep running when the Government decided to let you come back to work. I could go on and on, but comparing the two as the same is dishonest at best.

Johnson is the QB . Y'all realize he's only a freshman right. He's 6'2 already with time to grow and get a lot better still. I think the next-gen Tigers after 24 will be fine. Jones, Johnson, Adams, Arline, yet another Cartwright and plenty more. The newer Cartwright looks like he'll be a little taller than the past few. I could see us making region for at least 5 more years.
