  1. People keep pointing out the one year at NRG. There were three or four newer schools playing. 5A-DI George Ranch vs Lake Ridge (15,743). 5A-DII Cedar Park vs Frisco Lone Star (13,479). Not much of a following built up with a lack of alumni. Plus the big thing people don’t like to bring up. DFW doesn’t travel as well. They’ll show up when it’s in their backyard. Katy vs Lake Travis drew 43,718 in Houston. North Shore vs Westlake was 28,841. Schools within 100 miles of AT&T Stadium went (5-1) this year. China Spring is 109 miles away and also won. There is a real home field advantage for the DFW. Stephenville (west of DFW) might have brought 5,000 fans in 1999 to the Astrodome. That was crazy to me considering the monster program they had built. I like the idea of a 3 stadium rotation and San Antonio is most central location with a dome if a rotation isn’t possible. There’s also the crowd talking about the experience the kids get playing in AT&T. Well I’ll say Newton was just a excited to win a title in Tyler Rose Stadium when the weather was in the 20’s as they were when winning it AT&T.

I heard rumblings of the WB QB moving to PN-G but seems that he may have already moved over to Silsbee? Shea will keep his current position as noted and the would be sophomore would take over. Jackson Christian 6'4" 275 and Mario Miguel 6' 2" 305 return on the line. Dylan Romero and the freshman Wolfford will add more size to the line. Ngyuen and Chatagnier will return at RB. Adams and Nunley at WR. Defense has 28, 7, 47, 94 and 20 coming back. Plus add in 26, 42 and 43 who all had starts at LB. With the talent coming up and plenty of kids who played this season PN-G should be good.

Shea may not be the QB next year. There is a Freshman coming up that was on the sidelines all year that has a very good shot at taking over. If he does take over this will free Shea up to do what he did this year and be placed anywhere on the field. With the coaches having a year of knowledge of what he is capable of, just watch what they come up with to get him the ball. It could be real fun to watch.

No thanks, I'll do it here. I'm not bashing by the way. I just don't want Nederland to continue down the path of mediocrity.

  5. No, that won't fix it because there is no systemic racism in America. This is nothing more than a money grab where some will receive money but the handlers that disperse it will get rich/richer. You are a UT alum and slavery has not held you back as it hasn't held anyone else back, that's nothing but a cop out. We've become a nation of folks that make bad choices and look for someone to blame.

  7. Silsbee HC Joe Sigler got his 800th career win a couple of weeks ago with a win over FB Willowridge in the YMBL tourney. Congrats Coach Sigler with this milestone. Pretty rarefied air Coach Sigler is amongst. West Brook Head Coach Andre Boutte had his 700th win Saturday! Congrats Coach Boutte on your milestone win!!

He is a dual threat. I love Crippen but he is a pure pocket passer. If he gets into the right offense in college he will do very well. This Freshman can run and throw on the run. He will need to acclimate hisself to the speed of the varsity level. It will be interesting how these coaches evaluate the situation at QB next year.

  9. I've always said we shouldn't have anything to do with Cherokee. Karankawa, maybe. But I say we go with the Welders. PNG Welders. "W-E-L-D-E-R-S! Tack 'em Welders, Tack 'em!!" Just think of the possibilities. I've already suggested this on the PNG site.

  10. Whole hearted congratulations to PNG for your wonderful season and doing a great job of representing the Golden Triangle. Even though I don't live there anymore, it's always exciting to have one of our teams representing so deep in the playoffs. Wish Vidor could purge a few of your coaches, but we all know that can't happen. Lol

  11. It appeared you have and do show your DFW bias, but we get it, you’re from that area. H-Town and Golden Triangle is still better, don’t care what you and the rest of Dave Campbell staff says. Remember, we’re what y’all called “crazy people”.

  14. So the total attendance number for the state championship games was 213,665. Far short of the 250,00 the UIL was predicting. With the numbers going down, how about rotating the venue the way it should be?

  20. Dome in 86 and kyle field in 87 in the rain was just as good as NRG in 15 and AT&T in 16. Just another fan opinion, but we tend to forget this is about the kids. Wonder what they'd rather? Also I feel the novelty of AT&T is wearing off. So many people went just to go. Now not so much. I've been 3x and won't go back until WOS does... 🤐

  21. NRG puts AT&T to shame! The parking at AT&T is awful and the stadium doesn’t light a candle to NRG. Jerry Jones is all about the almighty dollar. He could care less about fans with families.

  22. Here's some unofficial numbers I found NOT counting 2020 for the COVID year its easy to see why the UIL never returned to NRG...while the numbers have been up and down they've still been above 200,000 consistently that's also why UIL state won't be going anywhere 2012: 205,238 2013: 221,339 2014: 250,652 2015: 156,143 2016: 235,311 2017: 203,423 2018: 221,167 2019: 217,679 2021:220,585 2022:213,665

  23. Because someone allowed you to go into the locker room and take a pic so that you could post it on Twitter, makes it true. smh You're funny btw, Coach Kay probably allowed all the under level coaches to take the trip with them to state so they wouldn't feel left out. Oh, and you're not done. You will be back to comment. lol

  24. PNG had a extremely great year. Especially having a new coaching staff and also a new system to learn. To be able to advance to the championship game was an outstanding accomplishment. Year in and year out, it will always be difficult for high schools similar to PNG to make deep runs in playoffs much less win it all. Competing against all the schools with open enrollment will be a steep hill to climb. Congrats to the football players as well as all the other student activities around this team. Coaches, continue the positive attitude you have shared with these young men. PNG football is back and I see a lot of bright futures ahead.

  25. If the issue is attendance, then let's address the issues underlying declining attendance. In sum: The increasing popularity of watching livestreams and broadcasts of the games, instead of actually going to them. Distance, both with respect to convenience and to the costs of transportation and lodging. Weather, which is less of an issue in domed stadiums but still factors into travel. Rotating locations probably isn't going to address all of those issues very well. If you move the championship games from AT&T to NRG and you have another year where four greater D-FW area schools are playing in four out of twelve championship games, you're probably going to see even lower attendance. Will shorter drives for greater Houston-area schools improve their attendance numbers? Probably. Enough to offset the losses among Dallas-area fans, overall? That's anybody's guess, but I'm skeptical. I know the UIL will never do this, but if the UIL really wants to gin up attendance numbers, reinstitute the ban on live broadcasts of the games. Make going to the game the only option to see the game in realtime. Regarding location, I think the smart play by the UIL would be to contract with multiple stadiums across the state, like AT&T, NRG, the Alamodome, DKR and Kyle Field, and assign championship sites based on which locations are the closest to being equidistant from the two high schools competing in each game. Would that improve attendance numbers? Probably in some games (I guarantee you that playing in Houston or College Station would have increased PN-G's already impressive numbers from last Friday), but I'm skeptical that it would increase attendance across the board. Either way, I suspect it would reduce the cost borne by most of the involved schools to get their students to the games, and generally make it easier on traveling families. Again, I know it's something the UIL will probably never do because of the cost to itself, the problems that would cause with respect to media coverage and the UIL's obvious preference for broadcasting games.

  32. But you’re okay with a photo of a little girl with a Death Row shirt on? Gangster Rap is more of danger to our youth than an Indian Mascot. I know Matt you have to be politically correct and too afraid to upset them. So you have to pick on a little Indian Mascot who doesn’t sing about putting a bullet in someone’s head or saying sexual and degrading things against women. I get it. This country has come so screwed up. You’d be called a racist if you said anything about rap.

  33. I'll feel better when Silsbee shows they can play four full quarters of quality basketball. Not counting the Bridge City game. It was Bridge City. They should be getting into better shape each week. HJ jumped out to a big lead on Silsbee last year. They were making all their 3s. It did end bad for them when they cooled off though. Might be a really close game if they shoot consistently. They scored 0 points in the 4th last year.

  34. Agree, the crowds weren’t as big this it seems like. That use to be the excuse I heard that bigger crowds showed up in Dallas. Need a rotation for sure. Btw, I wasn’t impressed with Jerry’s world seating.

  35. Pretty much. I still think it should be on a 3 year rotation with NRG and Alamodome.

  36. Are you serious? I guess it don’t surprise me though. What about 400# offensive linemen that don’t wear a belt, and you see they’re a&$ crack all game long?! I don’t like looking at that! Can they focus on their program and not worry about another teams mascot.

Off the top of my head, roughly 9 or 10 on defense, and 9 or 10 on offense, but note that my post said "players", not "starters". Depends on how one defines "starters", since there were various starters due to injuries. As an example, #16 and #6, starting Sr linebackers, missed several games due to injuries, and #26 a Jr, and #43 a Soph, "started" against Dayton, Texas City, Willow Ridge and maybe 1 or 2 more games. Others that came up and played included RB #15, and WR #88, both Sophs if I'm not mistaken, and also #42 on defense. Others "started" on special teams, and were back-ups or otherwise saw playing time. The speedy WRs, #18, #10, #84, will be hard to replace, player for player. But the offense may have a slightly different look, presuming #19 becomes starting QB. Adams will be more of dual threat than Crippen was (with all due respect to Crippen); and he was a pretty good QB in middle school and part of his Soph season before he was moved up to varsity. Next season will be interesting.

Or the short version, I can find no place that the law allows for a warning shot but can find that if force is lawful, the threat of force is lawful, and that includes displaying a weapon.

You might find this interesting on brandishing a weapon (although brandishing is not a legal term in Texas) in self defense instead of firing a warning shot. This is from the Texas Penal Code chapter on self-defense. Sec. 9.04. THREATS AS JUSTIFIABLE FORCE. The threat of force is justified when the use of force is justified by this chapter. For purposes of this section, a threat to cause death or serious bodily injury by the production of a weapon or otherwise, as long as the actor's purpose is limited to creating an apprehension that he will use deadly force if necessary, does not constitute the use of deadly force. I read this as, if you are in a possible deadly force situation and you display a weapon, you are allowed to make a threat to use the weapon if needed. L As it says, if the purpose is to create the apprehension that will shoot if necessary, it is lawful. I am not making a legal suggestion but I always have looked at that section under self defense. I have so many times heard the claim that a handgun license instructor has made a statement like, if you feel the need to draw a weapon, you had better use it or you are in trouble. I have never heard that but I have seen it stated numerous times. If an instructor ever made, such a statement, that would be like saying, it is okay if you draw your handgun and kill a guy in lawful self defense but it’s a crime if you draw your handgun and refused to kill him unless necessary. HUH?? Let’s see, a guy pulls a knife on me and demands my money which is an aggravated robbery. I act like I’m reaching for my wallet but pull my handgun and shoot and kill him and it is completely legal. But if I do the exact same thing and quickly back away and point my handgun and say something like drop the knife, etc.. I command a felony Aggravated Assault by making a threat while displaying a deadly weapon? Uhhhhh……. No. I think that is the exact situation this law on self-defense is referencing. There are several reasons to lawfully use deadly force in Texas. If you were in a situation that allows for that deadly force to be lawfully used, drawing a weapon and threatening to use the lawful deadly force is not a crime. So while firing a warning shot is not specifically lawful and “could potentially carry a legal liability, displaying a weapon and threatening to use lawful deadly force does not appear to be a crime under this section. As that section starts out….. The threat of force is justified when the use of force is justified by this chapter. So is brandishing a weapon with a threat to use it a crime if the force is justified? Not in my opinion. Remember that in Chapter 9 on self defense, the state has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you had no reasonable belief of self defense.
