I'm watching the HS Scoreboard Live on FoxSports and I'm cracking up at all of the excuses they are making at how Dawson lost.  Slow start, Penalties, off night, blah blah.  Not once did they give credit to Nederland

Nederland controlled this game from the beginning.  Nederland shut them out for almost 3 full quarters and had a 16-0 lead!  Give them some credit

Great football game... Our coaches need to remember that little trick to get a free timeout when we need one. Have never witnessed such a thing (I still think there is supposed to be a runoff of time on an offensive penalty in the last minute or two of either half) either way the dogs got the win they deserved.. Congrads..  PS: I was looking at clock when all zeros were showing and the ball was still in their center's hands for a good second or two, no way the game is supposed to go to OT

All I know is that our Dogs defensively crushed the #1 team in texas for over 3 qtrs. If not for a busted coverage and some absolutely inexcusable officiating this could have been a shutout and it also could have easily turned out ugly. Way to go team for another magical and totally unforgettable night of bulldog football. You earned this win,, enjoy it we will never EVER forget this night.

3 big time highlights for me were
Washingtons crushing tackle of #14.
Hopkins stiff arm
Barrows indescribably exciting catch
I think Carson (QB) on the play to Barrow was equal to the catch. He used his legs to buy time and thne to throw across your body is very difficult. He easily could have thrown it way and the outcome could have been different.

A couple of Bulldog fans watching the game.  Andre is even sporting the black and gold.  ;D

Johnson was there. However, Schaub was not. Per his Twitter account:

“@jvidrine_7: Can @MSchaub8 confirm he is at the Nederland vs. Dawson game #confirmtweet ??” Not there. Date night with the Mrs

isn't that him to the right of Johnson?

The pearland team has to be the dirtiest and most undisciplined team i have ever seen. From start of the game from flipping off the nederland fans, late hits, punches being thrown, helmets throwing around, a player thrown out of the game, #1 and other players taunting after they tied it up, and after nederland ran out on the field for the win #1 tried to go fight players and was escorted out by 2 coaches. then during the handshake several of there players just stayed on the sideline or just walked and didnt congratulate nederland on the win, to there coaches chest bumping with our coaches, to one of there players being escorted out by police they have to be ranked as dirtiest team in houston if not in the state. Ohhh Well BULLDOGS WIN!!!!  8) 8)

one of my co-workers said that her son and some other Dogs met Watt and Foster in the weight room at Reliant on Monday before practice and they were really cool with the kids, cutting up and talking game and really down to earth.  Pretty exciting for HS kids... He told his mom, that if you think Watt looks big on TV, you can't imagine how big he is in person.

Andre Johnson walked right by my seats and the guy is huge! Foster is not that big though.

Wow unbelievable! So many thoughts but I'll start with 5th and 7.... To me, either Ned should have been able to decline the penalty OR accept it with a ten second runoff which would've ended the game. Is there no runoff rule in hs??? If not, that's a load of crap! Any team can just sacrifice 5 yards for basically a free time out if they have none.. If the clock is ticking, just commit a false start and the clock stops, giving you enough time to get your field goal team on the field.. I think something major was blown tonight with that. For sure, the field goal was blown.. I can't believe not one of the officials were watching the game clock. A full second ran off after the clock hit 0:00. Nederland nearly got screwed bad tonight and I am just glad it didn't turn out that way. Great job Dogs... I think you just made some more believers in that defense.

Maybe we can get a ref on here to answer this question.  I know there is in the NFL, but not sure about college.
was it because it was a dead ball foul ??
A false start is a dead ball foul.  Illegal motion is a declinable penalty.  I wasn't there and was listening, but according to the announcers Dawson had people running everywhere and weren't set which would be illegal motion.  I'm not sure what happened just what the announcers said
What I saw was illegal motion. At any rate guys, you proved to be a better team in OT, move on and win state!
The call by the referee was illegal shift.  According to the NCAA rule book (applicable also to UIL), illegal shift is a live ball foul.  As such, that spike on fourth down should have given Nederland the ball.

I'm too tired to fully understand this...maybe one of ya'll can shed some light...

Can you make the call?: Live-ball fouls or dead-ball fouls?
By Lee Grace

Thursday, September 1, 2011

When do you throw the flag and blow your whistle to stop the play or throw the flag and let the play continue? When is a foul a "live-ball" foul or a "dead-ball" foul?

Normally, a "live-ball" foul is one that occurs after the football is snapped and while the play is happening. A "dead-ball" foul normally is a foul that occurs before the snap. However, there are exceptions to complicate the issue.

Here are some play situations to test your knowledge.

Play One: From its own 30-yard line, the offense lines up in a spread formation. The split end never gets set or stops for one second before the snap. The quarterback runs around right end for a 7-yard gain. What is the result of this play?

Answer — Since all 11 offensive players did not come to a complete stop for one second before the snap, the play should be whistled dead at the snap. This is a 5-yard dead-ball foul.

Play Two: From the opponent's 15-yard line on first and 10, the offense lines up with two backs outside the right tight end. Both backs start in motion before the snap. The quarterback hands the football to the fullback who runs up the middle for a 3-yard gain. What is the result of this play?

Answer — This is an illegal shift. It is a live-ball foul. The defense can accept the result of the play or penalize the offense 5 yards from the 15-yard line.

Play Three: On fourth and 15 from the opponent's 40-yard line, the punter takes the snap and runs to his right. At the 38-yard line he kicks the football downfield. It rolls out of bounds at the opponent's 12-yard line. What is the result of this play?

Answer —An illegal kick from beyond the line of scrimmage should be whistled dead when the football is kicked. The penalty for an illegal scrimmage kick is 5 yards from the previous spot and loss of down. It will be first and 10 for the opponent at the 45-yard line.

Play Four: On a pass from midfield, the defensive back intercepts the football at the 40-yard line. As he returns it for a touchdown he points the football at his opponent as he crosses the 10-yard line. What is the result of this play?

Answer — In previous seasons, this would be a live-ball foul treated as a dead-ball foul. Now, when the foul occurs during a play, this unsportsmanlike conduct foul is a live-ball foul. There is no touchdown. The 15-yard penalty is walked off from the spot of the foul. It is first and 10 for the intercepting team at the 25-yard line.

Never seen the resilience in a high school team as what was displayed last night...when everthing was going wrong, Nederland stepped up and made the plays to gain back the momentum and win the game...anyone know what happened to Hopkins when he went down?...he came back for a few plays so it couldn't be too serious but he didn't play very much after he went out...he is one tough kid so I'd assume you would have to leave him tied him to the goal post in Nederland for him to not play next week

not sure of what happened or to what extentent Kendrick was injured, but I'm sure it was the result of another of PD's "clean, sportsman-like" hits...I understand that the PD player who was involved was ejected and PD was assessed a 15 yd PF.

As you can see, I only come here to read and never comment. I have to say though, that game was awesome!! Way to go Bulldogs! It was well worth the $13 ticket and $10 for parking. Nederland showed great discipline and sportsmanship. Too bad the same can't be said for Dawson. The players refusing to shake hands after the game was unacceptable. Oh well... On to the next round! Go get 'em Bulldogs!!

(it was pretty cool seeing Schaub, Johnson, and Foster on the sidelines too!)

    • Trump walks to the beat of a different drummer so he could very likely pick a person that is on no one’s radar. Going by typical political logic, assuming that a VP pick might bring 0.5%-1% votes, who should it be? A half to one percent is not much but in a potentially razor thin election, a couple of thousand votes in a state could decide the presidency. Biden won AZ by just over 10,000 votes. The most recent Beaumont mayoral election, where almost no one votes, had over 15,000 votes cast. In GA it was 12,000 votes and Biden did not even get 50%. In WI it was 20,000 and again Biden didn’t get to 50%.  There are other states in that area of percent point difference. How important? If any two AZ, GA and WI flip, Trump would have won. So while the VP probably never matters…. can it this time? I think that it could. What then does the VP pick bring to the table? FL and SC were both won by Trump in 2020 so a favored son vote for Rubio or Scott won’t help Trump. Both are in a fairly comfortable position within the conservative community so they will neither hurt nor help with strong conservative voters.  What about the few fence riders that could and likely will determine the election by either sticking with Biden or switching from the last election? What about the people who did not vote in the last election, but may come out to vote in this one just to support the VP candidate? Could Scott sway a percentage point or two from Black support? Could Rubio help draw a percentage point or two of Hispanic support? Possibly on both counts. Like I already mentioned, they won’t help in their own states because Trump already won those in 2020. I personally think that either would actually do a good job as president (although VP picks are about the politics of being elected and not the “best” possible president) and might be the difference in a few votes but a few votes more is all that is needed.  Or…. My outlier, Tulsi Gabbard.  She had some decent support when are ran for the presidency in the Democrat primary. Could some people follow her because they support her and not necessarily the party? I’m sure that’s true for all candidates. Could she bring female support? As a strong mentally and physically person and a member of the military who was deployed into a combat zone into Iraq. Then she went to OCS and became an officer, then deployed to Kuwait. Can that military history, including deployment into a war swing some votes? As of late, she has been on a one person tirade against Biden and the Democrats. Let’s remember that Ronald Reagan was a Democrat and so was Texas governor John Connally. Connally was not only a Democrat governor in Texas but also Secretary of the Navy under JFK. Both ended up switching to the Republican Party so there is a fairly strong history of former Democrats switching parties and being successful, all the way up to the presidency. Gabbard is a pretty fiery campaigner and doesn’t mince her words. She would really be a thorn in the Democrats’ hopes and has the inside knowledge of the party. Could she potentially swing more votes than Scott or Rubio? I think so. But…. I don’t think that Trump would pick her and I’m not sure that she would accept if offered. Her odds of being Trump's pick are at about 1%.  Scott or Rubio at about 10%. Trump being Trump, will choose someone who no one has ever heard of.
    • So biden's a creepy old pedophile after all...shocker! But that's where the smart votes are landing.
    • You’re quibbling over the word “most”.  I agree that the UK is our most important military ally but we have overwhelming other support from Europe through NATO.   What other support do we have in the Middle East?  What are the “most” important issues? Military strength or intelligence that might head off the need for military action? It’s certainly debatable.  I honestly wouldn’t argue with any points on which if the most critical to our interests. I am sure that people can make valid arguments from different points of view. Military? The UK. Middle East intelligence? Israel.  As far as Israel, SmashMouth said that they “may very well be” the most important. ”May be” is not an adamant statement but a suggestion. They might be… depending on what the discussion is about. Worrying about the word “most” (especially “may be”) seems to be the definition of trivial.
