HOMECOMING! What does your school do to celebrate???

Recommended Posts

when i was in school Hoimecoming was great the mums, parades, the games, and the excitement of seeing old friends!!! This year at our school KIRBYVILLE! our kids have had all of this taken away almost. no mums are allowed at High School or Jr High....The parade this year was during the Jr High's Football game, so half of the town missed because of the other game. I am so upset. and so are alot of the kids. We were told on Wednesday that they could not wear them to school. Today when i went to the Jr High Pep ralley, you could not even tell it was homecoming. It was sad and uncalled for. So i want to Know how your school keeps the spirit alive???????  ???

Well vidor always has a HUGE homecoming. The entire week the town is in a frenzy. We have a parade that goes through main street where it seems the entire town is lined down the side cheering for all the floats and cars. Football game of course! Halftime show is most likely in the top 10 best in state!! Lights out, the band does a glow-in-the dark/ flashlight preformance and fireworks all during halftime. Vidor always kicks it good for homecoming!

Dayton has theme days all throught the week of Homecoming. The kids can wear the mums to school, but the bells have to be taped. At the pep rally, we crown the Dukes and Duchesses and the King and announce the top three candidates for Queen. Then at the game, the Dukes and Duchesses come out, after them then the King followed by the Queen candidates. This usually lasts our whole halftime, so the band doesn't play or anything. As for the parade, we don't have one.

Silsbee has brought the bonfire back after ending that tradition several years ago due to the Texas A&M incident. The bonfire was brought back last year but only our local volunteer fire department manages it now. They build it back behind the high school and burn it. Have a fireworks display also.

Great tradition that I am glad was brought back. It's much better than what replaced it, a lame candle lighting thing in Tiger Stadium.

Here In Evadale they have had a Bonfire on Monday night, then on Friday they have ,what has been called the best little town praide in Texas. If you have never seen it , its is pretty good not big and long but they realy do have some real nice floats that are all hand made. Then Oh Yea we watch a little football that we have won for quite some time now ;D.

I've seen a couple of the parades in the area, Vidor and Evadale...and if you've seen the Evadale parade, you probably agree it's really second to none.  Those people are nuts.  OMG, the man hours that they put into the floats is crazy.  Lots of em have moving parts and all are covered with those terry-cloth flowers, it's really too much to describe.
Always a bonfire, community pep really and of course, a victory on the battlefield.

Nederland has keep the traditions of homecomming in place for all the years I can remember.  Parade, bonfire, dance after the game and of course crowning ceremonies at the field during halftime.  As much as I appreciate the our traditions;  they don't seem to even come close to what Vidor does at their homecomming game.  Several times over the years we have been fortunate enough to be able to tape and broadcast the VHS homecomming.  At halftime; fans packed shoulder to shoulder in seats and aisles, witnessed and enjoyed with our crew every thing from skydivers landing on the field to fireworks and lights out as the band marches with lights and the twirlers perform with flamming batons.  Wow, if you haven't seen a Vidor homecomming halftime- go this year,  as they do it like no other school around here.  see 'ya on the field, videoguy

Our crew will be taping a game for one of the local stations that night and can't attend Vidor homecoming this year,  but we will be taping the parade and Vidor TV station KAOB will be airing it on a delayed broadcast.  The station is not on cable and you need an outside antenna to receive it.  Those in Vidor will be able to receive KAOB on rabbit ears and others in the area will need an outside antenna.  see 'ya on the field, videoguy

Back in the day (70's) when McDonald was the band director, the band would march with the lights out and had flash lights strapped to their legs. Made for a nice half time show.  Not sure why they quit doing those routines though. Heard that it had something to do with the old light system back then getting turned on in time for the teams to come back out. idk. Nice to see that Vidor has developed their homecoming shows into something really exciting to see.
