1. JMO but today every kid has a cell phone with mom and dad on speed dial. I would have made that call and would have just set there until one of them to show up and pickup little johnny. I would have never left them in a town one hour away. But I would have not let them back on the bus. But maybe after a hour ride that mom and dad had to make to pick up their angel maybe they would teach them how to act  when on a school trip.
 2.
In the 8 years that Silsbee has been in 3A, they have made the regional tourney 6 of those 8 seasons. The Tigers made regionals in '05, '07, '08, '09, '10, '12, making the regional finals in '05, '07, '08, '10, '12, advancing to state in '08 and '10.
WOW I always though that HJ was the only powerhouse in 3a ;D I guess the saying is right( the wheel that sweets the most get the most grease )
 3. As long as the schools are making Billions off these kids, I feel that if the kid is good enough to get payed today, then get the money. You can buy a education, but if you get hurt playing for free. Whos going to pay then??
nOPE!  We want you play and experience *real basketball*  ;D
We'll continue to play non-"real basketball" & advance further in the playoffs than anyone else in the area - Silsbee excluded.
Just when was the last time HJ did that????
My memory is a little fuzzy but I would think 2007 has a very good chance of qualifying.
Its 2012 So its been 5 yr that HJ has advanced further than any other team in the area. I would not say that as CONTINUING ADVANCING FURTHER.  HJ has a good program but so do other area teams ;D ;D  Dont try and make your team look good by putting others down.

Just didn't think it was right. Had I taken the bet it would look like I would have a rooting interest against Shawn's success and that simply isn't the case.
I tried to find were I had said pretty much the samething about a month ago. I would have loved to take Steves money, and though I had a better than 50% chance of it, But I would never want to bet against any kid from this area of making it .
 8.
true blue, i can assure you shawn's situation is very different than the others...he is a qualifier
What do you mean by Qualifier?? I think that DC had as good of a game as any kid that has came from this area. But Shawn can play with the best of them and hold his own. I was just hoping to see him get the chance to show that kids from small schools can make it on a D1 team....
 9. I am also very happy to see Shawn make it to the next level, But my only Question is why is it that the best two players in the last two yrs both are having to go the Jr co route. I think that both will be playing at the D1 level before their career is over.
 10. It just depends on what you like to watch. I like to watch a team ,that is matched up even and play good def. and a good half court off. Small School.. But I understand that some like to watch a Team run up and down with dunks and alleys with very little def. 4 and 5a....
 11.
Is Bray the kid who moved to California and came back to Kountze?
yep you got it... that him, hes playing at Jc now but have not heard if he got picked up this yr. Watch him play PA and he looked good. But at 6'2'' he has a little prob. matching up on the def. side.. and he does not have a good out side shot.. his game is more of taking is off the dribble and going to the rack.
You could have 5 starters from say Bmt Ozen, all move to a 1A school, would you then call their games "not real" no? You never know what kind of athletes you''ll see in lower classifications, way more often than not, there is more talent in the higher classifications obviously, but some of these smaller schools especially in basketball can feature some big time players, Kountze Devin Bray, 6-3 200 pounds, he would have played on any team in the state 1-5A, so while he was out on the court and when his team was in Austin how could you say that's not 'real' basketball when you could have placed Bray on that HJ 3A team that was also at state and he would have been a force in that game, the 4a and the 5a state game, you can't say it's not real because you never know what kind of talent these small schools can come up with, but generally the last place team in a 2a district vs the 2nd to last place team won't be as exciting as two last place 5a teams going at it, but when talking about State tournaments, yes it's real basketball.
Well i agree with most of what your saying except the fact the Devin never made it to Austin, I watch him play 3 times that yr and was in the Gym when he lost to NW before they made it to Austin.
Devin was on the Kountze team and played when Kountze won the state championship in 2007, the same year HJ won the 3A title.
OH I did not know that.. He must have been a Freshman. Did he start as a Freshman???
he was prolly a  sophomore
He was a Freshman, did not start but made huge contributions throughout the year and especially at the Regional Tournament and State Tournament that year.
I will say he was one of the best small forwards I have seen play in the 1a to 3a schools. Dont know if he will be a star in collage, but he did shine in high school...

Like I said I wish him alll the luck in the world, But I have seen him play, and I saw DC, and some of the other kids that were as good last yr, And none of them are playing D1 now. But there is nothing wrong with going the Jr Co route
The phrase " JuCo route " is a bit misleading. IMO - it leads one to believe that it is a stop along the way to a D-1 career when (and I would gladly entertain 3-1 odds on this) in fact maybe 1 out of 100 (1%)of the kids who do play JuCo never get a shot @ moving up to a D-1 scholarship.
Ok so your saying that only 1% of the kids that play Jr Co go on to play D1. So what do you think the % of kid that come from high school even make the Jr Co teams. Out of all the kids from the local area I know of only 4 from last yr teams. I dont follow the bigger 5a teams so I might have mised some. But 4 from the whole area is a very low % I would think
 16. Well I hope your proven right, I all ways will pull for the local kids to make it. Even if their from the Evil l Empire Know AS HJ ;D ;D ;D

I just know he is not quite as good as DC was last yr. And he is playing Jr Co.  After the tour of try outs that I went to last yr with my son, I realized that there are ALOT of kids that are really good that have to go the Jr Co route  to get in the D1 schools

He didn't have the skill set of Brown. Saw each play a lot in high school.
.      Decent?  Decent enough to be 3-a player of the year?  Decent enough to be tourney MVP in Austin when he won a 3-a ring?  Tell me what brown had in his skill set that Donahoe didn't because I saw them both play many more games than u did.
Nash, and  with all those accolades, why is it that those *particular schools* never show up in Sour Lake?
. Donahoe declined the offer in the hj gym.  Dove I know how closely attuned u r to local basketball but I am reasonably confident u haven't the foggiest idea of who visits the gym .  Prudhomme was observed by several coaches during the playoffs who made specific trips to watch him
Steve not taking anything away from Shawn, but If the best player in the area could not get a D1 look last yr I just dont see him getting one this yr. DC beat HJ 3 yrs  and he is at JrCo.

 21.
The Lamar Cardinals were 15-17 last year. The Cards didn't even qualify for their conference tourney in the last three years.  New coach, conference tourney champs, and now they are in the dance.  Thanks to coach Knight for bringing the program back. Now, a few good recruiting years and we are back in the sweet 16. This is how Lamar's athletics should be.  The program starts with the coaching.
Yes and when coach Knight was a TT he was making 1 million a yr and NOW he is making 100,000. How long do you think he is going to stay around????????
No one need to tell the kid he made a mistake. I know he will think about that for a long time. But lets remember hes a kid. But to say that that did not affect the game is wrong, That was a 4 point swing at the start of the game, plus the kid starts the game with a foul.

And they can all go back to the Gettos that the Rock pulled them from under
That's pretty cynical  :-\ ... perhaps [maybe] that even thought their time with Knight was brief, that some of these seniors take note of what it takes to be a man and be all-in.  That's a better wish than hoping the worst for them or from them.
Well when their coach That has been around Basketball his entire life, Says that they are the worst that he has ever been around. It pretty much speaks for itself about what kind of players that Rock recruited
Isn't that being a bit too literal ... don't you think it's possible that he was trying to motivate them by such extreme statements.  Even if you think that knight thinks his statements are true, I doubt that Coach wants these kids to make bad choices and go back under a rock.
