CavemanFootballJunkie Posted Tuesday at 09:03 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 09:03 PM Looks like anything is possible with this district. Quite a few teams lost key players in the 26 graduating class. But..... BC returns some key defensive players and their QB, LCM returning a QB and always has size, Lumberton returning their QB and a RB and always has some size, I'm not as familiar with Vidor but if they run the Slot T correctly it's hard to defend, Livingston has had great athletes in the past but not great coaching from what I am told, Huffman is always a well disciplined team. I don't really know much about the Liberty team. Looking forward to this football season. CDub86 1 Quote
chester crest Posted yesterday at 12:01 AM Report Posted yesterday at 12:01 AM 1. lumberton 2. huffman 3. bridge city 4. LCM 5. Vidor 6. Livingston 7. Liberty Vidor and LCM could go either way Vidor will definitely have a better season compared to last years, but they arent going to be able to stop the other bigger and faster offenses in the disrict such as lcm, bridge city, huffman or lumberton. setxresident 1 Quote

It’s Valid to think Highly on Huffman, and bridge city but they have lost so many pieces bridge city on offense and huffman on defense. Cook and Munguia both left their programs. I don’t see those 2 finishing in the top 2. Just how i see it Quote

I see liberty at least getting one district win maybe two if they're lucky. Quote
Little Enos Posted 18 hours ago Report Posted 18 hours ago Vidor needs a new coach from outside the district , not one that's is placed into that position by the former coach who is his best friend. He's just there to build up his retirement, no desire to change it up. If it's not working then it's not working and their record proves that is not working. Vidor should be able to do better in this district than they have been doing but the ship continues to sink deeper and deeper ! Quote

No reason why they should not be winning. Mr. Buddy Garrity and BBfan061 1 1 Quote

Did you watch any Vidor game last year or are you just basing everything off records alone? Quote
Squigleman Posted 13 hours ago Report Posted 13 hours ago As a Vidor graduate that suffered through some awful years I’ll just say coaching does matter. Jeff Mathews and his staff came in and made a program that kids avoided into something to be proud of. Made a program that has one of the worst record in the area into a tough game for any opponent that has a decent record and did it while coaching class and holding his kids to a high standard. Could Vidor be better maybe, but they have also been much worse and for town where 1 player every 10-15 years has a larger college offer character, integrity and mental toughness seem more important. Squigleman Posted 13 hours ago Report Posted 13 hours ago Yes I know Jeff retired, for the current coach I’d say this year tells a lot. The narrative has been that they were young, well at the end of the season if it hasn’t improved then that excuse is gone and it might be time to look for a new direction. Quote

Their defense was below average last year but opportunistic. They lost TEN starters on defense. They will have some good back end guys but the front 7 is completely up in the air. I'm rooting for them but it seems like an uphill battle. Quote
12th man Vidor Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago This is supposed the be the beginning of a special few years for Vidor, the junior class has won at every level and every sport since they was in 7th grade. It is a really talented class. The sophomore class has the size to go with the athleticism of the junior class. If Vidor cant improve drastically this season from last it would not surprise me on bit to see several of the key juniors leave the football program to just focus on baseball. I would hate to see this happen but it would not shock me at all. Hopefully they can get it done on the field this year and take some heat of the coaching staff but time will tell. Quote

I beg to differ. I graduated from Vidor in the 90s. I was in school and played when Vidor had the pleasure of playing North Shore, WB, Central, LaPorte, the Baytown schools, etc... and we did not avoid the program. The sidelines were packed with players. We looked forward to two-a-days, we looked forward to Friday night lights. Also, had the pleasure of playing for Vidor in its first year in 4A (20-4A). Again, the sidelines were packed with players. Never mattered to us if we went 0-10 or 5-5... we packed the sidelines with players. So, to me the decline in players is due to current coaching. Players want something new. They are tired of the same old offense. They want to be able to throw and catch. They want to be excited. The late, great Dan Hooks once said... You'll know when you're done playing Vidor because they'll hit you in the mouth for 48 minutes.... That was said back in the 90s. Quote
