Orangefield school board has set a bond election for May 2 for improvements to athletic facilities. The improvements will be turf to football, baseball and softball fields as well as expanded seating, additional lighting and additional parking.  Also new pressbox at the football stadium. These are much needed upgrades. Hopefully it will pass this time.

Press box for sure needs updating.

Turf is always a good thing because of lower maintenance.

Absolutely no dog in this hunt, but to me this is the correct way to do this type of bond. Having it be a standalone vote instead of buried in or attached to a bond for new school buildings/buses etc..is much more transparent. A lot of taxpayers do not mind additional tax dollars going to buildings but oppose those dollars going towards an artificial turfed field that some may consider more of a nice to have than a necessity…

Couple OF residents i spoke with said no way. Something about their water bill is highest rate in the state.

I can understand that response. Orangefield does have some municipality issues that need addressed.

So... turf the fields so the school uses less water?  Maybe..

A lot of people in Orangefield support the athletic bond too, so it should be interesting to see how it plays out. Part of it is parking lots, which we need pretty badly. Much of the discussion has been about missed practice time compared to other schools especially in baseball.

Turf and other improvements have become more the norm rather than rare luxuries. OF athletics have excelled for some time and the students deserve it.

Not sure what is going on with the water there but I hear about it all the time.  I will say from what they say, it is extraordinarily high.  Oldschool makes a point though…

In the press release from the school it said if this bond passes it would result in a tax rate increase of less than a penny.

Less than 1 cent per $100 of property value. I believe our admin claimed the same thing for all the bonds here. Do you know anyone that owns $100 house in OF?

The average property value in the Orangefield Independent School District (ISD) is approximately $358,500. This value is significantly higher than the average assessed property values in Orange County, with a typical market value ranging from $89,500 to $358,500.

Avg $35/yr

My point is it's really not much. Most families spend that at Whataburger after the game. Or in this case K Dan's before

I’m aware of that but $358,500 average seems high but maybe so with some of the newer additions.

Yeah 358,500 Average  does seem a bit high
