AggiesAreWe Posted August 8 Report Posted August 8 It's my understanding that this year the official shortage will really be noticeable in the fact that several games will be played on Thursday nights this year instead of Friday. A few even on Saturdays. For example, Hardin is playing half their games (5) on Thursday nights this year. We are aware of this situation and will do our best in making those changes to the schedules when they are posted. Mr. Buddy Garrity, TrojanWarrior08, RETIREDFAN1 and 1 other 4 Quote

I roll my eyes when I hear coaches and fans carry on about officiating. Almost every game I have ever been a part of that ended in a loss could have been won with better tackling, blocking, catching, throwing, etc rather than any calls the officiating made or didn't make. You cant change the refs, concentrate on the things you can control which is primarily "your team's execution". bullets13, rupert3 and AggiesAreWe 2 1 Quote
navydawg31 Posted August 9 Report Posted August 9 Last few season I have seen the HS coaches having to ref middle school games and even Thursday night freshman/JV games where both coaching staffs came together… numerous times I have seen it happen on the hardwood floor as well… coworker told me youth football games are now 100$ a game to ref due to shortage. Hey Navydawg31, I retired after 38 years of coaching. I am now living back in central Texas and am part of the TASO Waco chapter and I will drive to Southeast Texas to ref youth league at $100 a pop as long as I can get 3 games, seriously. Give my email to the people you know. I copy all my college games and watch commercial free. Seriously if they need help [email protected] yes we are short of officials here to. Quote

AggiesAreWe Posted August 10 Author Report Posted August 10 Kingwood Park leads the way with six Thursday night games. In fact, KP plays all six of their Thursday games in the last 7 weeks of the season. Do not play Thursday in Week 7. Hardin plays five while Porter, Anahuac and Joaquin play four Thursday games. According to the current schedules we have, these following teams do not have Thursday games: Atascocita Channelview Beaumont United Galveston Ball Lufkin PA Memorial Dayton Huntsville Nederland PN-G Bridge City Hardin-Jefferson Huffman Liberty Livingston Lumberton LC-M Vidor Hamshire-Fannett Jasper Shepherd Silsbee WO-S Crockett Diboll Fairfield Westwood Teague Kountze New Waverly Trinity Colmesneil Deweyville Sabine Pass West Sabine Apple Springs Chester Burkeville High Island 38 of our coverage area teams has at least one Thursday game scheduled for this season. AggiesAreWe Posted August 11 Author Report Posted August 11 Saturday coverage area schedule (12 games): Week 1 Aug. 30 Aldine at Fort Bend Kempner Livingston vs. Fort Bend Austin at Tomball Week 3 Sept. 13 George Ranch at Humble Clear Lake at Kingwood Park Angleton at Richmond Foster Week 5 Sept. 27 Goose Creek Memorial at Kingwood WO-S at Fort Bend Crawford Week 7 Oct. 11 Channelview at Kingwood Week 8 Oct. 18 Goose Creek Memorial at Summer Creek Week 10 Oct. 30 Goose Creek Memorial at Humble Channelview at Atascocita Pasadena at Fort Bend Kempner Quote
AggiesAreWe Posted August 11 Author Report Posted August 11 Kingwood Park has just three Friday night games on their 10 game regular season schedule. Goose Creek Memorial, Kingwood, Fort Bend Kempner and Hardin play half their games on non Friday nights. 70 games total in our coverage area that will not be played on Friday nights. I am going to say that is the most we have ever had here in our coverage area. Quote
bulldog16 Posted August 11 Report Posted August 11 Your larger schools that are in multi school districts share a stadium and will play on either Thursday or Saturday depending on the number of teams that are scheduled for that week. Yes, there are an alarming number of smaller schools, that have no reason to play on anything other than Friday's, having to play on Thursday due to the shortage. Thursday's are still better than Saturday's in my opinion. DukeS and Coachbearoso 2 Quote

Thursday's are still better than Saturday's in my opinion. Larger schools have been doing it for years like you stated because of sharing stadiums. It also helped with having enough officiating crews to cover. My point is that now smaller schools are having to play Thursday nights due to the shortage. I agree about Thursday's better than Saturdays. Yoda1961 1 Quote
