How Do You Define an Elite Coach?

When I make those statements, they're about you bro... and the others who clearly do not. They're not about the people who actually understand it takes more than just a good coach to win. Culture & talent are the 2 most important factors. Coaches can develop culture, but it takes a village. Don't forget - high school football coaches are TEACHERS first. They are the ones spending every day with TEENAGERS and trying to get the best out of them. If you've never spent time as a TEACHER and a COACH, then you will NEVER really and fully understand the many nuances and dynamics of high school athletics.

Don't be so naive to think you are the only one here that knows football.  Heck, someone who's played high school football knows it.  Someone who's played college football knows it.  Doesn't have to be a coach.  Anything else stated here is opinions.

The underlined is your opinion!

I didn't even know what his name was in real life until I saw him post it on this same thread, but ok whatever. I think a lot of people on here are low key jealous they aren't coaches. I'm just trying to figure it out.

Seriously?!  You being silly now!   LOL!

It is a fact. A fact, mind you, that it takes more than just a good coach to win. I can prove it.

OK

Field a team with a good coach but the kids are slow, all Freshmen, unintelligent and possibly mentally disadvantaged. How much winning will that coach do? Now I understand that’s a stupid example, but it’s just to serve as an exploded view. You gotta have a combination of coaching, kids & community which includes parents and administration. It takes all 3.

Mentally disadvantaged!  That made me laugh.  It is a silly example.  Just like the one when someone tried to make a point:  could High Island beat the KC Chiefs with the right coach.  That one made me laugh also!  Oh, BTW, you forgot to add; what if they all had one leg.  If we are going to silly might as well go to the extreme.

PSS -- So the reason PNG has been good and Nederland has been bad is NOT because of coaching?!

More of a combination. Community has just as much to do with it as anything; For instance, PNG's community spirit is what allowed them to spend thousands of dollars to hire Dodge to even go find a great coach. Without the right school board and community, that ain't happening in the first place...

And I'm not a PNG guy, but I recognize one of the finest football communities in the nation when I see it.

give me a team with average players and a great coach over a team with good players and an average coach.

you did miss the point

those markers are going to hurt your teeth.....

you better stick to the crayons

1..While I don’t disagree with your coaches vs athletes statement, I’m saying why settle for one or the other. It’s not a choice you have to make. Have both.
2. I think the markers make prettier pictures. I’m sticking with the markers. Plus they’re scented.

Too me an elite coach will have these traits

very good discipline and the team makes very few mistakes (non many penalties, few turnovers, a fundamentally sound team in all 3 phases, and a team that plays extremely hard)

assistant coaches that are on the same page, very loyal, highly dedicated, and teach fundamentals very well and have an excellent game plan vs every opponent

the entire coaching staff treats the players well and the team is highly prepared for every game. They also have a tremendous off season program

Even if the talent level is down, their opponent will know they have been in an extremely tough battle after the game is over

Talent will change from year to year in all programs.

These programs are successful because the get the most out of their players like you said.

That is why coaching is more important that the talent.

Thanks for breaking this down.  It's actually worst than I thought.  I say at any one time, there's less than 10% Elite coaches.  Didn't realize how much less.  With my category of Elite coaches, there is right now only 1.5% active coaches that are Elite.  When you add those with only one Title that comes up to 3.6%.  Like I've said, if it was easy then every coach would have about 10.  If it's talent only then this percentage should be dramatically increased.  One would think anyway!  Contrary to what some here think, a coach has to have the "it" factor to eventually become Elite!

    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
    • See why I don't trust my Hogs?
    • Come on dude, don’t take anything away from the kids on the field. If you want to talk uncharacteristic, we made what 3 or 4 errors in game one. Y’all had 2 EARNED runs.  Defense is normally our strong suit. Your ace didn’t strike out a single one of our kids. Like I said also, you did not out hit us in game 1. Hell you barley out hit us in game 2. We had all the uncharacteristic walks. Josh pitched a hell of a game is what made that game what it was.
