I think Ozen's coaching has taken a step up last season. I look for a very competitive team this season from them.

​Yes Suggs has a complete staff this year. Having a 3rd year starter at QB in Boyd will help also.

You know how I  feel about the staff....  The verdict is still out, but the playoff readiness or lack there of still sits horribly with me.  But when you have the 2nd best RB in the state on your team, there are a lot of things that can be done very well.  I'm banking on that....  I hope....

In fairness to his 0-2 playoff record, they were losses to a 10-0 Summer Creek team that wasn't a blow out and a 9-1 CE King team...well it was a blow out.

What you said is exactly correct, but that's what you usually get as a D1 rep., especially as the #2 seed. District's 23 & 24 D1 reps. played each other in the first round last year and were a combined 37-3 at the time, all four had been ranked in the top 10 at some point in the season. Move over one district to 25 and you'll find that all four of their playoff reps. were ranked in the top 10 also, including state finalist Cedar Park who went D2 with 1,845 enrollment. I think every school in our district grew except Dayton, much like the majority of the state.

I think 22-5A was the opposite. Those two facts along with better coaching staffs across the river is the reason for some of the district's results lately.

These comments are mainly directed towards soulja but I see this from several people on this board who I think may have bad memories of where there teams and programs were just a short time ago.  Take Beaumont Central for example. Here is a program that year in and year out has talent but sometimes is good and sometimes is bad. I researched this program top to bottom and found out some shocking information. Central is coming up on its 30 season ever and has an overall record of 173-136-3 and a playoff record of 13-15. They have had 8 Head Coaches Steve Shaver 86-87 (13-6-1) (0-0), Marvin Sedberry Sr. 88-91 (30-13) (1-3), Enoch Dixon 92-2001 49-53-2 (2-3), David Suggs 02-03 (18-6) (2-2), Eric Jackson 2004 (1-9) (0-0), Donald Stowers 05-08 (27-17) (3-3), Andrew Washington 09-2012 (22-23) (3-2), and Toby Foreman 2013-current (13-9) (0-2). There have been two outright district champs Sedberry 89 and Washington in 2010 and two district co champs Sedberry in 1990 and Foreman in 2014. There has never been a Central team go undefeated for a full district schedule. There was one 10 win season which was Suggs in 2003 (10-3). There is only one coach that has taken Central to the playoffs three consecutive years which Sedberry in 89, 90, and 91. More shocking than anything to me was there was only one coach which was Enoch Dixon who stayed at Central more than four years. The most playoffs wins any coach had was three. All of that being said I don't know how you question the direction of a program where it is headed now from where it was just two years ago in 2012 going 2-8 and in 2011 going 3-7.            Here are some pretty good area coaches records in there first few years:  Curtis Barbay first two years as HC of Newton (5-4-1) (8-3). His playoff record after 6 years (0-3). Dan Hooks First year as HC Channelview (5-5) and WOS (7-3) (6-4) (3-7) (7-3). His playoff record after 5 years (0-0). Larry Neumann first 4 years as HC at Nederland (6-5) (7-3) (5-5) (6-4-1) and his playoff record after 4 years (0-2).   Jack Alveraz first two years as HC at West Sabine (7-4) (3-7) first two years as HC at Kirbyville (3-7) (4-6) first two years as HC at Ennis (3-7) (8-3) with a combined playoff record of (0-2). Todd Dodge first two years as HC at Cameron Yoe (3-7) (5-5) First two years at Newman Smith (3-7) (5-5) and first two years as HC at Fossil Ridge (2-7) (5-5) with a combined playoff record of (0-0). You miss my overall point.  Notice I said the Verdict is still out, which means I'm still open to improvement.  I dont dislike anyone, but I will be hard on any staff , past and present.

First of all SETXGURU you did a magnificient job backing up your opinion. If I may add to it the fact that all of the coaches you used which are the best in our area were all able to do one other thing as well. They were able to put together great staffs. The coaches are nly as good as their ability to work with and through there assistants. Great coaches hire great assistants.

He's a good back whose size and speed project well to the next level. He doesn't translate to wins like an Austin Walter or Trey Williams does though. I can show you his film and then five other backs from this area you would put in front of him. Whaley is a certified beast athletically but I have to disagree with the highlighted statement.

​Exactly, which is why I don't really have a high running back grade on him. He's very ineffective once the edge is taken away from him, that's why I responded to Soulja's post the way I did.

I've said it before..... Scout ranks on speed, agility, blah, blah, blah... IMO, in high school, the small, quick, Jaquizz Rodgers type is a beast. The downhill guys are good, but don't put up the gaudy numbers. But the higher the level, the better the numbers. So my opinion is that he is rated high because of speed, size, vision, etc.  kids like him have a legit chance to go to the top level in my opinion. It doesn't always equate to the video game numbers in HS but in the end I think his chances are good. It also helps he will be playing in a weak district in my opinion. In high school you can make a living running around the edge. But you can't make a living running up the gut unless you have a unreal O line. So that's why you see spread offenses and video game numbers.. I think the Walters kid is a good example of this theory...
