  1. If they don’t hire Toby, it’s over for WOS. This generation of player and parent will “take their ball and go home” if things don’t go their way. If Toby isn’t hired, mark my words, there will be a mass exodus to LCM. LCM is the new pretty girl on the block, and everyone will want to be a part of the program on the rise, not the one struggling to forge a new identity. WOS pride means nothing to this new generation. You see it in college and Hs already throughout the nation and state of Texas. If the board messes this up, it will be nuclear. Do the right thing folks!

OMG I did NOT say it was ALL about connections, nor did I try to spin any kind of "privilege" accusation, nor is there any "victimhood" or "insanity" here. I don't know what set you off but its totally unnecessary. All I did was mention a small but relevant piece of information that is indeed noteworthy to the topic. I am so sorry your feeling are hurt so bad about what I mentioned. I did not mean to trigger you or anyone else. I swear its almost impossible to express any independent thought without inadvertently triggering someone along the way.

People in every industry do use connections to advance. Coaching is just another one, it apparently was indeed a factor here. Its not new by any means and its no big secret. I am sincerely happy for him, and happy China Springs won State. Dang.

If not meant to discredit his own merit in receiving the position at Baylor, why did it get brought up? A better way to say it would be to mention the success of his father and brother and applaud the continuation of that with the younger son. You didn't do that, you prefaced with "not to take anything away from him", and then made a statement that took something away from him.

Not to take anything away from him, but I think his Dad was the coach at China Springs before him. He had natural coaching connections and opportunities that many do not have. I wish him all the best.

Yeah, opportunities forged by the hard work and success of his father, not only in the coaching profession, but in modeling what a successful coach looks like to both of his sons. His older brother was a star at Baylor as a QB, then was a successful HS coach which afforded him the opportunity to return and be hired at Baylor. Shawn was retained through a coaching transition so he must be pretty good at what he does also. Brian just won a state championship and knocked off both WOS and Carthage on the way to the trophy. But yeah, it's all about connections and opportunities others don't have. That's why he's a success.

This argument is weak. The idea that fathers cannot forge a legacy which benefits not only himself and his immediate family, but also future generations of the family is insane. That's the goal of every father, to give their children opportunities either they didn't have, or had to break walls down to receive. No one is stopping anyone from breaking their own walls down and creating the same type of legacy for their family, but it's must easier, and more popular in 2021, to lay down, cry "privilege", and put your hand out to be given something you didn't work one second for. The children we are raising under this ideology have an interesting situation in front of them. Many of them will choose to be victims and will remain victims for the remainder of their lives. Some will see this for what it is, and understand that competition to get to the top will be less fierce than it has been in years past because the number of "victims" has increased. I hope some of them take the opportunity seriously and grab it.

    Congrats Coach Bell.

  4. No one is coming from a large school in DFW to take over WOS, and even if they do, they will build their credibility as a HC and leave the first chance the get at a bigger job back in DFW. WOS would do well to hire Foreman and attempt to continue the tradition of having a head coach plan to stay until retirement at WOS. If they inject themselves into the rat race, it could be a long tumble into mediocrity for the program. Toby is the safe hire. If he fails, then you can jump into the rat race. Just my opinion.

  5. I guess the rumor mill is quiet on this one. I am hoping Liberty can land someone who can begin to make some changes there. It begins with getting kids to buy into the program and the direction it wants to go. My fear is, even if they hire someone who can get them going in the right direction, the methods and grind needed to create that winning culture will be too much for the kids in the system. It will take a full scale culture change for Liberty to expect any success any time soon.

Maybe we did not know. Most people on a sports forum tend to talk only about the sports side. Do you think there is another reason?

Congratulations to him and all of the other athletes for taking care of their business in the classroom.

Of course he does. It's the way of the world these days. Forget the fact that Zach was sent home the night before a highly anticipated state championship rematch in the premier state for high school football in the nation, or that he was suspended earlier in the same season for behavioral issues. He is clearly being targeted for "some other reason".

It is still officially the term. Tepper used it this past weekend on the show. I've been saying Mustang D. Regardless as to what they are called. Like always, their actions on the field speak louder than words. Only given up 133 pts thru 12 games.

Not surprised to hear Tepper is using it....seems like a very Tepper thing to do. lol

I Love my Falcons, believe me I feel good when the boys do well and are awarded for this hard work. But Kids are cherry picked (not all) some have to work extra hard to show coaches, we’re as some are molded by coaches.  All boys work very hard this isn’t bought the kids.  It’s about talent that don’t even get the chance, or give up cause they get shamed for things going on in their personal lives that the coaches don’t know about, don’t wanna know about, or just don’t feel like it’s worth it.  And you know what I’m ok with that. Just tell the kid or his parents so they can move on my first son at Hargrave received this treatment starting fresh year.  He cry wanted to quit, even tried baseball, but it was more of the same.  We dedicated every waking moment from mid sophomore year till senior year working learning cause if he was the best how could he not make varsity.  He did but IMO he should of started, but no complaints here he played a lot. So senior year comes and my boy ( the one that would of been giving up on by our coaches) started all year and both ways for a lot of games.  End of year all district DL, academic All district, and a football scholarship in a small school in Missouri (that I help him get) not his coaches.  Not saying they didn’t do things fir my boys I’m sure they have and I’m sure they mean well, but my other son has talent more than the oldest one I just told u about.  He’s a little different but gifted somehow they don’t see it.  I’m not one to have blinders on when kids are involved.  If my kid had no potential I would say.  All in all I think HH has plenty of talent going through, but the playing field isn’t level.  Status, money, personal relationship, should not get in the way of business.   Best kid should play bottom line.

This line of thinking is exactly what has created the downturn in society over the past several decades. Parents never pushing their kids to take personal responsibility for their choices or their role in bad situations. Even if all of what you said is true, your teaching your son to lay down and cry when things aren't fair. That's not a life lesson that will serve him well. I highly doubt Mac's staff would have lasted as long as it has had he run his program this way.

That’s on the coach!! Means they aren’t bought in

This is music to my ears. I have hoped you fools in Hardin would begin to turn on Barrier so he would pack his stuff and take that incredible son of his somewhere where he has a real chance to shine. Fools is what you guys have always been and it is what you will always be. Someone already mentioned it, but Anthony Morgan could've been a Hornet, but alas, his father wasn't good enough for you guys. This story will end the same. You guys can sit at Hardin grocery and talk about how the kid was "almost a Hornet" while you recycle Haynes for the 10,000th time. Geez

  12. Can Barrier start his 8th grade son at QB for Hardin Varsity? That kid is the best player in that program and may end up being the best player Hardin has ever seen if they can keep Barrier at Hardin. Good luck with that though. I feel some other power programs in the state may be offering Ned OC positions in the next year or so.

A guy that m-f's his kids for motivation at half time?

It's more than just a head coach; Nick Saban would get his brains bashed in there.  The community wants someone to fix the athletics problem there with certain kids getting the accolades and other kids put on the back burner; and the kids they want with the accolades are babied and coddled at home and told they're the best out there cause cousin, or brother, or uncle was an exceptional athlete there (even though he wasn't mediocre anywhere else).

I'm pretty sure Tarkington started to create a "utopian" society and has ended up the way it is.  I distinctly remember walking out of their gym in 7th grade after a basketball game and hearing one of the elder people say "they just won cause of dem black kids"...so if that's what's being up out there they're getting built in excuses

You're a clown bro. Bass actually left Tarkington in a better place than it was before he got there.

Scat, clearly you are part of the problem in Tarkington. I do not believe for one second that Bass M-F'd kids at halftime. He was always going to be a short timer in Tarkington and the only way that would've changed was if the community rallied around the program and things began to change. Clearly that didn't happen and was never going to happen.

I am sure you will enjoy him being the head coach of successful 5A and 6A programs into the future while Tarkington continues to be what they've always been.
