I don't know if you could call what Rousey did last week "fighting another day." That girl whipped her all over the ring.

This is a very bias ( on the verge of being a racist )statement you are making. I doubt if you were very concerned about Chicago murder rate in the first place.

Unfortunately you are correct IMO. It's an easy way to deflect talking about the issue. We all know there's a segment that are indoctrinated into a welfare mindset and are perfectly content to never change those circumstances. I'm a huge proponent of putting more effort into getting schools right in the inner city. Somehow the kids need to be educated out of this cycle (this includes learning trades). There's some bright examples scattered around. A famous one is in NYC where this particular magnet school pumps out college ready kids (that go on to graduate and escape poverty) but of course that's not enough. If your mother is a crackhead or working three jobs to keep a roof cuz daddy ain't sh*t, the kids are highly at risk of getting eaten up by the system. My understanding is we project prison needs based on the test scores of elementary kids. We're damn good at building jails but seem to suck at building decent schools (unless you're fortunate enough to be in a decent area). These schools need expansive programs to help the kids. It's sucks to help pay to cover other people's problems, but I'm pretty sure Chicago would be much safer today if the country made a concerted effort in the inner city that wasn't only focused on law enforcement. I also like Texas' use of long-term school facilities. We need to separate the unruly criminals-in-training from the kids that really want to learn. Maybe some of those jr. gangsters will benefit from a school full of muscle bound men that keep strict order. Some may straighten up and go back to regular school and focus on books and not fist fighting teachers.
There's another good example of a school that straightens out troubled kids, it's called Glenn Mills School. It's not too far from Philadelphia. It's basically a juvenile detention facility but they're more about instilling discipline and high standards than lock up. Their football teams are the most respectful disciplined group of kids I've seen. I wouldn't dare get out of line if I were a kid there. The staff looks battlefield ready.

I have Bing and Google so I'm an expert on anything you want to discuss.
I'm not a scholar on any other country, but practically every country just by nature is going to have it's fair share of dirt. Keeping a scorecard of who is worse would fall to the "eye of the beholder" and a fool's errand. That's why I'm not infatuated with past wrongs but contemplate more on where we are headed. (This does not mean we should not learn from our past mistakes though.)
I am perplexed at your last statement (in which I whole-heartedly agree). Doesn't it seem semi-paradoxical for you to always be suspicious of our government but call for bigger and bigger government?

That's why I touted the "theory" of social welfares programs being perpetuated to control Blacks. The belief from your post (in bold) is an integral of that theory, and is discussed at length in many "obscure" publications.

Once you read Sowell's work you will/should have a very hard time maintaining your socially Liberal stance. And please don't stop with him. There are many more authors espousing the same ideas from many different viewpoints. These works are tough to find due to their "unpopularity" (meaning they are a direct assault on the Liberal viewpoint and thus unworthy of publication and dissemination).

I didn't say all of them had it coming. In fact, I didn't say ANYBODY had it coming. My (obvious) point was that the overwhelming majority of police officers in your "twenty shootings" acted within their rights, and within the parameters of self defense laws, and I guarantee you that is accurate. In fact, in most of the cases that have been major talking points on social media and for BLM, the victim did in fact "have it coming", but that hasn't really mattered. And in every case where the police were wrong, and even in several where they were not, they have had charges filed on them in the aftermath. It's a shame that officers are out there getting hurt and even killed because they're hesitating to protect themselves due to today's social climate, and out of fear that doing so may make them a target of overzealous politicians who are looking to either make a name for themselves or garner votes.

Somewhere BLM got associated. There was a response this morning on at least one media outlet that has a predominantly young African American audience. It hasn't been posted on the web yet, but the message was these acts were heinous and wrong and the perps need to pay the price. They also mentioned the inaccurate connection of BLM.

I bet virtually all of us are thrilled, and I hate to throw a pile of poop on our celebration cake, but I'm not convinced the hogs will voluntarily leave the trough. I'd guess, that percentage wise, Congress has made more millionaires than any private business. In an ideal democracy, with an informed, caring electorate who would vote the Nay voters out - NP.

There you go again. A zero sum game. Those who aren't willing to compromise are working against what our founding fathers originally designed. Our Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are the result of the compromise of wise men.

I like it here. We "transplants" do quite well in this town. Smart conservatism works. My former home town could benefit a great deal from a healthy dose of what Texas is doing.

The financial markets have been aware of over regulation for some time. Hence the extremely poor stock performance for banks until they moved about 8% in the 30 days following Mr. Trumps election. Have stated this before but it is a great example. There is a regional bank chain in Tennessee and their CEO made the statement that they now have more compliance officers than loan officers. You can be Centrist, Liberal, or conservative and still have to understand that this is NOTHING but counterproductive and a huge drag on our economy. That is one of the key reasons this administration had an economic " recovery" that was about 1/2 ( in terms of GDP) of the average post recession recovery in modern times.

No problem having them qualify...we have a member on here, Bullets13 who is (I think) still a teacher.
I have no doubt kids will be safer if he could carry in the classroom...there are just so many cops on a campus.

Remmus reacted to Englebert in Gun Bans Work?
Maybe the kids will behave themselves a little better knowing their teacher might be packing.
A few school districts in Texas and some in other states have already adopted this practice. As far as I know, each district sets the requirements on training and how/where the guns are carried, but I have faith that the superintendent (or school board) will be able to select the right personnel to receive the training required to protect the little sitting ducks.
