  1. Sonny Combie went there to be OC so they're gonna run the air raid. Boykin doesn't really fit that system since he can't throw the ball.

Cumbie is going to end up being one heck of a coach. He is probably the brightest QB Leach ever coached. Extremely intelligent and also has some charisma.
  2. Not fair. You never saw Renfro play!!!!  :)   Renfro ran punts, kickoffs, interceptions, AND running back when called upon.

Not true!  I was young (younger than you!) but I remember ol' #20 well.  As far as running punts, kickoffs, and interceptions, I think #21 was more than a bit better than Mel.  I don't know that he ever played RB, but he did get some snaps at WR.  Renfro was a beast, Primetime was the best.

  3. ....and your top two teams were defeated by the ACC and BIG XII. We could do this all day. You are trying to grab respect rom an average record while thumping your entire conference at singled out teams.

Which is why the SEC is perrrrfect for the Ags.  They can join the Mississippi schools of the world by claiming the accomplishments of others.  It's an SEC tradition.

  4. My suck comment was not aimed entirely at A&M ( notice the r-e-s-p-e-c-t ), it was aimed at all the other sucky teams too. Although this is the way you have to view it, 4 losses sucks no matter where you play, if your goal is a NC. You should try and win games, not pat yourself on the back by measuring up after losses. "Look who we played" only matters to pollsters.

See, now you're minimalizing an awesome 9-4 season and a jaw-dropping 18th place finish in the polls. I mean really, who doesn't commit to memory the country's 18th best team each season? And let's not forget the two MNCs they found from the pre-prohibition era last summer. Maybe, just maybe, they will find another before next fall and catch big brother! (Unless, of course, we go ahead and claim the 11 or so we haven't become pathetic enough to add to the banners...)
  5. So all one has to do is join an elite conference, suck, and automatically be catapulted above any other team. Makes sense to me.

No, no!  They didn't suck.  They almost finished in the top half of an elite conference.  It's quite an accomplishment.  Then again, being mediocre at best in a conference is old hat to the Ags.

  6. ^^Thanks you helped prove my point look at all them teams name another conference with that many & Ags finished 7th overall (won the head to head with Vandy) & 4th in SEC West....

Yet a ways back from Mizzou, you know that former Big 12 juggernaut?

  7. I don't think anyone is showing pride in 7th place finishes, but with Bama, LSU, Auburn and the rest of the SEC schedule 3-4 losses is very possible every year. A&M was in 3 of their 4 losses last year and if they had half of a defense could have won those games and player for a national title. They aren't that far away and the recruiting classes Sumlin is bringing in will only help.

I can respect that evaluation.  Do you think that the "jury is still out on Sumlin"?

  8. Yes they finished 7th and ranked #18 in the country behind #2 Auburn, #4 South Carolina, #5 Mizzou, #7 Bama, and #14 LSU. Mighty Vanderbilt finished ranked #24 by the way.

You are making a case for the SEC without meaning to.

Not really.  Actually my point is the pride the Aggies seem to have over a 7th place conference finish and an 18th in the country ranking.  If Sumlin continues to get less with more, will he be on the hot seat?  As I know you know, we had a similar situation with Mack getting top classes who underperformed.  Kevin's young; maybe he will find the formula on the field.

  9. Lock, you are ate up with it. You are so full of yourself you can't see daylight. Igs are full of themselves.

Where is your comparison to Bama?

Like I said, when are you gonna own a conference. Fourth place seems to be bragging rights.

Umm, didn't they finish tied for 7th in the SEC?  Not fourth?

  10. Bulldogs / Indians, Dave Campbells magazine ranked us No. 3 in the State, I think they ranked Odessa Permian / Midland No. 1.  But those two schools are a long way off from each other, here in Ned and Port Neches/Groves we face each other every day of our lives, you lose this game and you gotta face the music from the other fans all year long.  When you're on the winning end nothing is finer, lose and it is close to someone dying in your family (NO JOKE)  The atomosphere at a Ned/PN/G game is like no other and those who would argue otherwise all I can say " it's a Bulldog/Indian thing you just would'nt understand."

This comment was brought to you by the No. 1 rivalry in Texas, and since no other state measures up to Texas I guess we're No. 1 in the Nation.

Midland and Odessa are only 20 miles from each other.  And they HATE each other.  Odessa has long been considered the blue collar town; Midland the white-collared town.  From 1980 to 2000, the two schools combined to win 10 (yes, 10) of the Class 5A state Championships during that period.  So Permian and Lee is a rivalry like no other.  Case in point, I attended the state quarterfinal game between Permian and Lee in Jones Stadium in Lubbock in 1989.  Permian won and went on to win state.  Attendance for that game?  I can't remember the exact number but it was somewhere between 40 & 50k...for a high school game.  PNG/Nederland is great.  One of the best.  But it's not Odessa Permian/Midland Lee great.

  11. Gotta wonder where he will land.  I have often wondered and now more than ever what would this draft picture be like if he had not had the questionable off season after his Heisman Year.  He appears to have aced his draft test - every one - but some still question his maturity.  Had he had a better off season last year I think he would be the unquestioned 1st pick in this years draft.

    +1

I don't know what more the kid could have done since offseason to elevate his draft stock.  The Wonderlic score is pleasantly surprising to me - goes to show you that you should never stereotype someone for anything.  I realize there are question marks with Manziel but isn't that true of virtually every kid?  I can think of two locks at QB over the past 15 years and Indianapolis drafted both of them (and were they really locks or kids most thought were locks and turned out to be what they were forecasted).  The more I see and read, the more I think this kid is going to be a star in this league.  I pray he stays healthy because he is poised to continue to be a superstar in this game for years to come.  And really, even as a Longhorn, it's been a long, LONG time since I've seen a QB as entertaining and exciting to watch as Johnny.

  12. Toby turned WOS into the dominant track program in the State in 3A.  Knew it was only a matter of time until he did the same with the Jags.  Many of us, myself very much included, are very hard and critical on BISD for the decisions it has made.  I have no problem with justified criticism; but if you do that, you also need to give credit where credit is due.  Toby Foreman was simply a GREAT hire.

  13. I like Murray and Mettenburger. To me, there is a lot more value to either one of them as a 3rd rounder than any of the so called top 3 as a #1 pick. I would also say that if the Texans go QB with that pick, it has to be Manziel. The other two aren't worth the risk and don't have the upside. Then again, I'm not an NFL GM so what the hell do I know. I'm not even particularly good at FF.
