  1. Oh I'm sorry I thought we were talking team sports.... not individuals.... Point taken I'll just crawl back into my cave

Have they had the district track meet yet?  I didn't think so but I could be wrong - honestly don't know.  What I do know is that last year, as in most every year, WOS won the district track meet as a TEAM.

  2. The fact that you continue to pat yourself on the back for making statements to cover up your mistake suggest you suffer from "Grandiose delusions". Not to mention your fixation with the state of athletics at Bridge City. You may want to get that checked out. Please feel free to continue jumping around the subject in an effort to make yourself feel better about getting called out for making a statement that was not well thought out.

Oh wait, I almost forgot, should be a good game tonight.

I don't know that I've ever seen someone pat their own back so hard for completely missing a point.  Talk about self-delusions of grandeur.... :D

  3. Let's stay off topic and just run down these 2 teams in district "UIL" events:

    Football: WOS
    Baseball: BC
    Softball: BC
Track: BC this is overall points for meets " Having a super fast 4x100 doesn't mean you win the meet"
    CC: BC
    Basketball: WOS
Powerlifting: BC- BC sends more kids to state than any other school in the area.
    Tennis: BC
    Golf: BC

Did I miss any sports? Just listing the ones That I can think of.

So, I guess from the study it seems like BC is competitive in the majority of the sports.....

You missed badminton and field hockey.

And BC is better than WOS in track? They have more state titles in that sport than football!
  4. The twist on this subject is laughable and I assure you far from over my head. My response was meant to enlighten you, which it obviously did after seeing you "clarify" your initial statement. And yes it should be a good game.

Apparently it was. I wasn't clarifying anything. I was giving an example (big difference). But your response is noted. Congrats to '11 Cards football team for not sucking. But I would concede the argument to you, and congratulate you on your excellent retort, if football and baseball were the only sports....
  5. You are one who crawfished from the first statement you made. I just called you on it and then gave an example to support my point.

I guess the bigger question is what, if anything, does this have to do with the topic?

    Rake1

My response to your comment was over your head. Reread your comment I was responding to, and the use of "think" or its derivative in my response. My initial comment was made to be funny. You didn't think so, others did. Carry on with the thread - my apologies for getting it sidetracked. Should be a heck of a game.
  6. So because some guy tweets something, A&M will never be better than 8-4. That makes sense.

Do you think it's a problem that Texas had ZERO head coaches or GM's at their pro day yesterday? Sergeant Strong keeps proving that he's not a very good recruiter, so I don't see how the problem is getting any better.

Although we are on different sides of the fence, I usually respect your posts. This one is just thoughtless or blinded by hatred.

Strong came in at the end of recruiting and he's proven he can't recruit? Seriously? Ask the coaches at the Florida schools if they agree with you. And do you think the pro day turnouts were about the states of the programs or whether one had a potential #1 pick? Guess how many teams were present during Vince's pro day workout? More than were in CS today. Of course, they did get to trip to Austin too which was an added benefit...
  7. I agree that football is the most popular sport but you cannot compare this to any professional sport or league as they are all for profit business's. Where to comparison is and I think can be used is for major programs like Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, Oklahoma, etc.... as those really all operate on a profit margin and fund other programs within the university. Where it fails is for the other 1/2 of the programs that already operate at a loss and the school funds these programs out of student fees - these schools and universities will have to look long and hard look and where to cut athletics if this vote or decision ends up costing the programs more money.

My prediction is if implemented you may see 1/4 to as much as 1/3 of currently offered athletic programs being cut if not totally at least partially - the likely programs that will be cut will likely not be football, basketball or even baseball but swimming, track and field and other low turnout programs will likely feel the axe even at come major universities.

Sorry - I don't disagree with much, if anything you say here. Just saying there are better examples.

FYI - Real Sports did a piece on the NCAA this week that was excellent (Bernard Goldberg reporting). I fear that the "student athlete" has not existed for the most part in the big programs for a long time. The system is already broke, and I really don't have any answer to fix it.
  8. Then say it. Don't make it out to be all sports and don't speak unless you know facts or be prepared to get called on it.

I think my quote was accurate. At least with the boys' sports. BC is pretty awful at those not requiring a bat or distance running. Maybe that's why the AD was relieved?
  9. I am a huge college fan but this ruling is ridiculous. I say if they want to be considered employees of the college then they need to see what it is like to be in the work force. Go ahead and pay these kids but, cut back on the scholarship percentage and let them see what it's like to be a working man and pay for what you want......I believe an athlete that gets his tuition paid for and stays in the athlete's dorms with meals is enough for these kids. If they want spending money then let them work in the offseason and learn to save......receiving a scholarship to a college is an honor not a priveledge. Some kids now days are so spoiled they don't appreciate what is given to them, all they want is more. This is going to hurt college sports a whole lot more then help it. Big schools will even suffer in the long run. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Look what happened to the NFL since the union came in. It created a lot of greedy men who are basically playing for the money and not for the passion of the game like it should be. Same will happen in college....Just wait.

Actually, use the MLB if you want to make an anti-union argument.  The success of the NFL and the inability of the NFLPA to get a CBA akin to baseball's has created a parity like no other league.  And the result is the most popular sport in the land by a MILE, including CFB...

  10. Brian T. Smith ‏@ChronBrianSmith 45s

If you're rating pro days, #Manziel and Bridgewater are in different leagues. But ... just a pro day.

Honestly, if I'm Rick Smith and I'm choosing between Bridgewater and JF, it's a no brainer.  I've never been overly impressed with Teddy and he played against MUCH weaker competition than Manziel.  I REALLY like Rick Smith though and hate taking a QB here with what's available.  Why can't Houston be as lucky (no pun intended) and have a #1 pick when Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck is available?  Colts have to be the luckiest franchise in sports.

  11. Any ranking that doesn't have PNG near the top is crazy. They are the best team in the Triangle and it's not really close. Their pitching staff can match anyone in the state.

BC needs a #2 after Shug. Someone needs to step up or they better hope they win a lot of coin flips for 1 game series. 12-10 playoff games are no good.

WOS needs to play someone. Their record is great, but we will know more this week after they play BC and Silsbee.

I haven't seen GCM or Dayton, but their records and schedules are pretty impressive.

Pretty much +1 on all of that.  You can make an argument for BC #1 and PNG #2 but PNG can't be lower than 2 IMO.  I would have to agree with you though.  In a 3 game series or more, I would have to take PNG over BC.
