  1. Yes, I could be. But in Palin's case at least, nothing she did before or since leads me to believe that she formulated that prediction herself. My biased assumption is that somebody smart around her told her to say that. But who knows... After all, she could see Russia from her back yard!

Sarah Palin is a goofball. Anyone unwilling or unable to see that either needs their mental faculties questioned or is letting personal biases cloud their judgment...
  2. I find myself caring less and less about Houston sports since I can't watch them on TV. Last year was probably the 1st year in my lifetime that I didn't go to an Astros game. They really need to get this crap figured out.

Same here. I am going next month to see the OKC game and I will go to the last Yankee game this year at Minute Maid to see Jeter. Beyond that, really have no interest in going.
  3. I was so upset i gave $50. But seriously, i'm not big on the whole global warming thing. it seems to be getting cooler the last few years to me. but there's no way for me to really validate this particular article. I can either believe it on face value or just ignore it. I'm certainly not going to do the research it would take to either refute or substantiate the claims.

People believing cold winters refutes global warming show their lack of research on the issue. The reverse is actually true. It is extreme adjustments in climate in general. The fact that this is still a debated issue shows the power of rush Limbaugh and the right wing talking heads and the willingness of the American people to ignore science in general (or accept the "findings" of a couple of wing nuts over the masses of scientists).
  4. I have always stated that I felt JFF will be a functional QB in the NFL and time will tell if he can adjust to the NFL talent level - could he be a bust hell yes but that applies ti all new NFL QB's - I just have not written him off like ALL Texas fans seem to have. You could be right on the Aggie's and VY and JFF comparison - but the Aggie's I run with never doubted that VY was the best college QB at the time and felt that he would be successful in the NFL but I cannot speak for all Aggie's at the time.

The same thing that you stated about the blind hatred of anything Longhorn from younger Aggie's can also be stated about the blind hatred of anything Aggie from young Texas fans - i.e. GCMPats2, Bulldogbacker and Amphibious Rodent are the 3 on this server that fit that description. I have never disrespected the Longhorns or any of its players or Coaches in any of my post as I have a lot of respect for the University but the same cannot be said of many Texas fans.

I will apologize for the as usual as I believe that I thought I was responding to GCMPats2 - Sorry

You have that backwards. I said (I think) that the older fans are more blinded by their hatred. The younger ones (under 40) have been much more gracious and openminded in my experiences (even when visiting Kyle field).
  5. King and TxHoops - As I have always stated both of you are correct when it comes to the history of Texas and Texas A&M - but that was before A&M left Texas's shadow and moved to the SEC. Only time will tell how the long term benefits and problems that the move to the SEC will cost or benefit A&M. I predict that the relationship will be more beneficial to the Aggies in the long run and the State of Texas will become a lot more equal than what "History" has shown. Again Texas fans like to look at the History of the relationship over the last 50 - 60 years and if that is the context that you look at only then yes I AGREE Texas is the dominate program between the two - but we as Aggies like to look at the more recent history and that shows programs that are a lot more equal than Texas fans wish to believe - and I am not talking just about the JFF years either.

But - Sigh - Again only time will tell.

And still was considered a better team than Texas. And another argument as to why JFF should have been the Heisman winner again this year ;)

Winston would be the lock #1 pick in the draft of he were able to come out. Hard to quibble with him winning (as it would be hard to say JFF wasn't deserving had he won).

As for the rest of it, you could be right. However, when both teams are winning, Texas will still hold the advantage. Kentucky does just fine in basketball even though the SEC is generally weak sauce as a conference in basketball. They pick the school over the conference. Especially when they believe they will never seriously contend for championships at one college. The worm is turning again IMO.
  6. Huge get for Tech. Maybe that's why he ran off all of the other QB's.

@max_olson: Texas Tech lands ESPN's No. 1 dual-threat QB @Jarrett_Stidham. Impressive athlete, huge get http://t.co/nFCWmh3fRH

Highest ranked Tech signee since rankings were instituted. My east Texas sources also tell me Patrick Mahomes is not a lock to go MLB either. If he enrolls next fall, stidham going to have some competition for his job.
  7. I think Armstrong will be a good QB. Abdullah, and Cross will be a good RB combo for them next season.

I love to go to Lincoln September 20th. I hear a lot about their classy fans

Absolutely true about Husker fans. Without a doubt the best I have ever encountered (in Austin and at the big 12 championship games). They are the best in CFB IMO.

I would love for Martinez to have a career in the NFL. Maybe he can make the transition ala Hines Ward and Brad Smith. More don't make it than do but it can be done.
  8. Have you read anything I have written about who the Texans should draft?

I said they should take Clowney or the tackle from Auburn, unless the Browns will give up both of their 1st rounders then they should trade the pick.

I would agree with you, PM.  You are mostly reasonable in your assessments.  I have no idea how old you are, but I have found that younger fans/former students to be like you.  There is not quite the blind hatred that makes a lot of the older Ags unable to be objective.  I enjoy your contributions on this board.

  9. Regardless of what has happened or who made it happen or how long it will remain - A&M is the better overall program today then Texas - accept it and quit living in denial.

A blip on the radar.  They are better now.  But that, as history has told us, will not last.  Ultimately, it is too much to overcome what most think is the premier school in this State as well as what each school has to offer kids.  Like it or not, for about 80 percent of the time or more, A&M will always be little brother.  If you can't accept that, you have been living in denial for a long, long time ;)

  10. Only thing I can say is I can think of a Heisman winning QB who won a NC and completed 65% of his passes his senior year, and not one Ags ever gave him one freakin vote of support. His name was Vince Young. But now you have JFF entering the NFL and all of a sudden, Heisman winners and high percentage pass completions are the qualifiers for a successful NFL career.

Vince Young became a head case (I truly think the money ruined him) and JFF has attitude issues. Who knows how successful anyone will be until they play? Answer.....no one.

Vince didn't win the Heisman, but he should have.  To this day, the best college player I ever saw suit up.  Simply refused to lose.  But an excellent example of not knowing if someone will be successful.

And you're right, at least with a lot of Ags I know.  They rooted for his failure.  But two wrongs don't make a right.  Hope JFF is a great success.

  11. Everybody has an opinion - and I respect yours as it was stated in an articulated fashion with some reason and not with the normal anti-A&M bias found by some on this forum.

But were we disagree and I watched all his games and replayed several since FB season and the jump balls while hugely entertaining they were much fewer than the passes that were on target to a running wide receiver a lot of times in coverage.

And I have to disagree that he only had success due to Mike Evans (a beast I agree) because he completed most passes to player not named Evans (69) but to to Darel Walker, Malcomme Kennedy and Travis Labhart and others (231)  and none of those appear to be considered in the same caliber of Evans - so were those just lucky throws - I do not think so.

While this debate is entertaining we all have our opinions and obviously a lot of us do not agree.  It will be very interesting to see how his NFL career goes and I hope I am right that he does succeed but only time will tell.

Man, I can't figure this one out.  I really can't.  I can't say for certainty that he will be a bust, that he will be productive, or that he will be a star.  Could be any of the three.  I agree with Bullets13 that he did get bailed out a lot having maybe the best WR in CFB bringing in a lot of "jump balls."  At the same time, the kid can make all, or almost all, of the throws you need on Sundays.  Injuries scare me a bit with his style if he can't adapt to protecting himself more.  But patience and making better decisions can be taught and learned in the league - and despite some of the things he's done and said, I don't think the kid is dumb.  Again, I can't make up my mind on him and I doubt anyone knows for sure.  I just don't think you accurately say he will be a bust anymore than you can say he will be a Pro Bowler.  He's one you have to wait and see with.  It's a nightmare for a GM though; pass on him and he's a star, you look terrible...draft him and he's a bust, you look terrible.  Personally, despite being a Longhorn and bleeding burnt orange, I wish him all the success in the world.  Love him or hate him or indifferent, no one can say he's not VERY fun to watch when he's doing his thing.  The NFL will be a better product if he's successful.

  12. If you want to see an amazing middle school track team, catch one of the BISD track meets.  PA Lincoln hasn't lost a meet in middle school and won't this year.  Never seen a team at that level literally win just about every event.  And the numbers they post are mind boggling at that age level.

  13. moving forward doesn't mean thats the right direction......but so many weak minded people who can't think for themselves will follow the mass .........and it is not always the best solution to a problem.

    wheres the backbone

Careful here. I could argue a lot more "free thinkers" are more liberal than conservative. Go to this country's most elite institutions of higher learning and what do you find? More democrats than republicans. Conversely, I saw an article/poll some years ago regarding global warming. When those who believed it to be a hoax were asked where they got their information, the majority response was Rush Limbaugh. My point being there are plenty of sheep on both sides of the fence.
  14. Overrated by no means.  It was Steve Atwater that lit of The Nightmare.  2 different scenarios though.  Atwater came with a head of steam from the safety spot. Clowney came out of a 3 point stance.

+1.  There is a reason he is almost unanimously being called the best player in this draft.  Talent-wise, he is off the charts.  Only flaw is the "head" issues.  But there are the same concerns with Manziel obviously.

This is just a bad year to have the top pick potentially.  Any of the ones mentioned have "bust potential."  This is the year to have a need at WR and be picking a little further down.  To me, the two guys that are going to absolutely be quality Sunday players are Evans from A&M and Watkins from Clemson.  Both will be extremely productive at a minimum IMO.  And either or both could be perennial Pro Bowlers.

  15. Whether Manziel or Bridgewater run a 4.5 or a 4.8 isn't that big a deal from the QB position. Manziel's elusiveness and playmaking abilities are his greatest assets. His greatest weakness is his size. Whether he translates to the NFL remains to be seen. There is not a QB in this draft though that is a lock (as with most drafts not containing John Elway or Andrew Luck).
